will do so ... as soon as i find out how and where to find them

...looking under carpet.....

I have come across an area on my Yland where the animals seem to freeze...totally unresponsive.
Horses, boars, rabbits ...all just stand there unresponsive.
I was harvesting sand for glass and after digging around about 6 rabbits, and then encountered 5 boars...just standing there...
not sure whats going on there...am i not interesting enough for them?

didn't take a screenshot but saw a couple of them hovering about a meter above the waterline near the shore.
I appreciate that its a difficult one to solve ...removing bugs like this is like removing a lump under a newly laid carpet....flatten one and another pops up nearby

You could try draining the oceans and then we could hunt them down on horseback

It looks like some sharks have not read the changelog or forums ..and persist in hitchhiking. It happens when you release the controls to snack ..or read your map.
One shark made it onto the front deck, but wriggled off before i could take a screenshot ... the other 2 i manage to spear and kill before they got me, but the corpse nearly overturned the ship.
During my trip, there were at least 3 sharks circling under the hull whenever i tried to snack...or read the map.
We need harpoons

there have been a few quite funny scenes.. i never thought about capturing them as screenshots until just now ...like the time i was woken up by a boar standing on top of me in bed!
There has also been some beautiful scenes too ..like sunsets with a storm building up ..or a moonlit night with the choppy seas..
This game never ceases to surprise...

looking forward to the deployment of that patch...
Saw my first shark in this new game ...but as you saw, it was stuck in the side of a hill.
I constructed my dock in a nice safe friendly bay... and was even wandering around in the water to ensure the building blocks aligned properly. Not a shark in sight!
So started on the construction of the S.S Ridiculous ...i crafted the keel , scrambled aboard to deploy the anchor to stop it floating away and next thing i heard the dreaded gloph gloph sound .. yup a shark was now lurking between me and the dock!
Fortunately i had some logs in my inventory and constructed a temporary bridge to get ashore without losing a toe or two. came back with more wood to construct the front and aft ..and this ship hull was literally surrounded by sharks! - one at the stern ( pictured) tasting the stone walkway ,and the other two at the front one near the ladder and the other under the bow.
Either i am using the wrong deodorant..or the wood i am harvesting contains pieces of shark- magnet

Hooray! will not need aloe vera bandages anymore to put on the shark bite marks on our backsides

Control tower to all craft in the vicinity .... a shark has overshot the runway and crash landed.
Its advisable to all ylanders with residences adjacent to the sea to keep all windows closed, and be alert.
If using a latrine... it might pay to check under the seat before using... you just dont know where these sharks will emerge from next!
:-)
Requesting that the developers investigate the possibility of ylanders being given the ability to craft shark proof umbrellas...

Witnessed the porous roof again ..but couldn't find the screenshot to post it. Rain came through like the stone paneling was not there.
However i also noticed that in some cases if there is vegetation, - trees - near a wall, and the leaves/branches pass through the wall, also so will the rain. But in the roof episode, theres no vegetation nearby. Sometimes the "leaks" appear to be at th edges/joins of blocks or panels.
If i can locate the screenshot i took , will post it here.

its getting to be a real pain in the "stern". :-) Its some sort of bug that needs to be fixed, I had a friend try this game and got tired of being attacked by them and losing his ship, and having to start a new game in frustration. if i can show him that its been fixed, i might be able to get him to join in in multiplayer game.
Try fitting a cannon on the top deck and shooting the sharks with it?
it seems these sharks come in underneath, and can pass through wood structures and as others join in they force the first ones skywards..
-
looks impressive! but wear armored trousers just in case - those sharks have a habit of coming up through the floorboards behind you and trying to bite your backside :-)
Meanwhile i have the plans for a " S.S Ridiculous"... .a sailboat with the helm elevated on stilts at the front etc... You will need to use eye bleach after looking at it :-)
-
well, that busts all my theories! These sharks can pass through wood, stone and climb to amazing elevations out of water. I shudder to think how they will react to aircraft... Shark hijacks at 30,000 metres?
I notice that the attacks usually occur after you release the controls to either snack or read your map.
Finding a way to defeat these creatures is sure becoming a challenge.
Will the developers be considering giant kraken next? ..or perhaps whales? or maybe porpoises/dolphins you can follow to other islands..
-
Storage boxes ..i craft from stonemasons workstations stone letters and symbols to place on wall over boxes to identify their contents... eg cu = copper, fe = iron st = steel, s = sulphur sa = saltpetre, gp = gunpowder w+a = weapons and ammo, co coal, ch charcoal, gl glass , sd , sand etc
Cabinets hold more items and when using forge, use any crafting spots to make extra nails ...you can never have enough.
I also carry on my ship some massive logs... at least four, and when visiting an island , use them as a bridge to connect my ship to land... place a lantern at the land end to discourage predators climbing aboard and to help you find your way back.
Remember, its just a game and its fun.!

after crafting a map and pencil, put the map in a dynamic slot so it will update as you move around ...but check occasionally to make sure that your pencil is not broken or the map will not update.
Bears are formidable opponents...hard to kill. so if you see one, be careful and try to avoid direct conflict. .., they are usually resting... so try a long range attack with a crossbow/gun.
A fishing rod can be handy for supplementary food. craft a pole, rope and needle and try your luck ..its easier than in real life!
Have fun!

if you see sharks waiting offshore giving you the "hairy eyeball", it could indicate a predator lurking nearby, and its hoping you will try to escapeit by running into the water. if you have a spear prepare to stand and fight the predator (wolf/puma) ..if you see it first and attack from behind you have a better than 75% chance of slaying it..
try to plant nearby a food source (Corn.bananas..) and also a flax/cotton source in case there's bad weather.
When building a refuge. try to make it 2 story, internal stairs, and with an entrance (lockable ) on both levels- but the upper level accessible by a ramp or stairs illuminated by lanterns ... that will discourage roaming wolves etc. from sneaking in if a door is left open at night.
If you have copper available ..or find a loot deposit with copper ore or an ingot, craft a miners helmet with the lamp ... its indispensable when it gets dark or when mining, as it allows your hands to be free to defend yourself if necessary.

be careful when killing the sharks .. the corpses can upset the balance of your ship! You will need a hammer and some time to destroy that tombstone and allow your ship to move again. You might have to move that pool level to above the water line...maybe with an air gap between it and the lower deck.
Can the developers introduce a new weapon...a harpoon?

My island seems to have more tomb stones now, than oak trees. Constant respawning can lead to despondency. I post these tips , not as cheats but to help a newbie get a start in this very creative and absorbing game.
1) Note your spawn/start position. When you get the chance mark it and place nearby a container or clearly visible the following: - A spear, a flint lighter, wood pieces, a torch, and clothing so you do not freeze to death, and something like stones pointing to where your base is located.
2) weapons.. the best weapon for close encounters with predators is a spear. then a sword. Crossbows and bows and arrows etc are best at long range but take time to reload and impossible to aim at close range ..,,and by the time you are ready to shoot , the predator is on top of you, mauling you. Carrying a spear, you can respond quickly to a surprise attack and get in multiple hits at close range.
3) long range weapons such as crossbows and rifles etc are best for attacking a predator thats unaware of your presence.. move to higher ground with cover, and ensure there is a gully or obstruction you can fire over that will impede the predators response
4) wolves are in packs ..once you dispose of one ... look around for others before you try to gut the corpse.
5) Sharks at the moment have the ability to squeeze though wooden decking of ships ... they seem to prefer to attack when you release the controls of the ship and are taking a snack or looking at your map. As soon as you hear the "gloph-gloph" sound ... run to the front of the ship.. they will usually come up from behind and try to maul your bottom --- If you have some spears positioned around the base of the ships mast, you can mount a counter attack..but be careful ...don't swing wildly in case you hit your helm.and destroy it...or the ships deck ..or you destroy your ship!
6) gunpowder kegs ..if you find one or dig one up ... place it away from where you are working.. striking one with a tool can cause an explosion. I was excavating a basement in one dwelling and struck a keg with my spade... "Kaboom" ..when respawned i returned to find the entire center of my house a huge crater...no forge ..foundry, smelter and half my boxes of items!
7) When excavating ores etc dont dig hastily... you could break through into an subterranean cavern and find yourself surrounded by beasts with glowing eyes and luminous spots... Best to carry only items of necessity when digging et, leave expert tools and other high profile items back at your base
8) after crafting weapons with ammo such as crossbows and guns, leave a spare and some ammo behind in your base... then you will have something to fight with when you go to recover your corpse contents.
Any one else has any survival tips? ...feel free to add them here...but dont post anything considered to be a "cheat" or exploit. Half the fun in this game is devising solutions to problems ... and also giving the developers ideas to make the game better and fix anything they see as being broken.
looking forward to the time we can mod clothing ;-)

will post a pic of my next attempt at a shark resistant ship ...planning to build a false decking above the existing deck with an elevated helm. My theory is that the sharks cannot move though an air gap above the waterline.. thats why they don't attack through stone mooring decking. .. i think ;-)
You have to give credit to the games developers for providing a platform for creativity.
I am compiling a list of tips to help new starters get a hold on the game without getting despondent with continual respawning. The island i am on at the moment has just as many tombstones as there are oak trees!
Does your yellow submarine have windows? ( evil grin...)
-
hmmm getting ideas.... might construct an armoured vehicle with a bumblebee cannon on the roof ...watch out bears ! Also planning on testing how a cannonball can affect a shark waiting on the seashore ;-)
By the way , they are impressive builds!
-
Also dangerous rabbits! got a message "too dangerous to sleep here" and found a rabbit hiding inside my dwelling.
Regarding sharks, constructing a new ship with the helm elevated above the deck and see if the sharks can fly! The last ones came in through a gap in the stone deck ...there were 4 of them... poor captain had no chance. International rescue tried to retrieve the s s sharknado on a raft, and after paddling around in freezing conditions.. spotted the ships lights in the distance ...but it to perished under the weight of a shark attack.
Also a warning.. when having a snack on your ship, stand well back from the helm ...least you run out of snacks and accidentally punch the helm and destroy it! and have no resources on board to replace it!
And it can be embarrassing when fighting off sharks with a spear you miss ..and destroy your ship from underneath you.
We were told to watch the birds at sea ....ummm will the be soon equipped with bombs or torpedoes? :-) I better not give the developers ideas!
