Today was like another charlie chaplin movie .. screen freezes and re starts
I got my ship built and tried sailing... whenever it was near land it was uncontrollable .. the screen kept freezing and when release i was either heading to shore or out to sea... then ship went into a series of slide show images showing either no ship, just the wake , bits of the ship ..or a part assembled ship ..or just me with my bottom skimming the waves.
Then Ylands did a perfect impression of a dead goldfish .... belly up!
Was locked on the log out screen for 5 minutes as the wheel of misfortune slowly turned.
I managed to log back in to find myself on the ship full sail towards the end of the world ... did a 180 turn and eventually mad it back to my island... but as soon as i could see the shore, screen once again went into freezing fits.
Managed to coax it towards dock on half sail then hit reverse .. screen froze .. got the sailing back noise and when scree became active i was halfway up the beach .. but going backwards... fortunately into deep water.
Given up for a while ... just toooooooooooo frustrating.

I like the game, however after starting a game it soon deteriorates with lag and other reported issues that make the game difficult to stay with, The result is eventually you are in the game as a solo player, and new players do not stay with the game.
The issue is the MP games / servers ... players are crying out for the restoration of the explore games, but as there are bugs etc which griefers exploit, a lot simply give up
What you need to do is address all the MP issues, bring back the explore games ..but clearly labelled as pvp or pve and set them up accordingly, and make it so those with dedicated non pvp servers do not have to re map their games so often
Also allowing more players per game ...say 10 ? because often i arrive to find the game full and unable to get in , and others do too, so what happens then is in the less busy hours, no one bothers to join in believing they will not get in.
The episode of no feedback and silence to bug reports also made a lot of players drift away
Result : new players do not stay.
So please , listen to that red seagull ooops eagle
.. as crazy as he is, because he makes a lot of sense and there are a lot of P1 gamers backing him, and who will be keen to push a working Ylands game platform to the forefront

Red ..yes on the P1 na server..... theres 2 bases side by side, mine and Eviltwin's ..they are joined underground by a plethora of underground tunnels and storage chambers...a co operative effort. Basically, all the surrounding cliff /hillsides are hollowed out into underground caverns .. theres room and a nice bay on the other side for anyone else to build and " join" in.
Also theres so e really deep monster filled caverns down deep ... enter if you dare!

It is also symptomatic on the P! gaming servers.... we see an influx of new arrivals ..and when they find its hard to grief, they leave. I often see someone arrive,,, they runaround trying to hit offline players, then run from building to building trying to enter... anything that is not secure they steal or destroy, then they get on ships and try to steal/sail them ... and when that fails they then pick someones doorway .. sit there to block the entry and go offline ...never to return.
Its something we have to put up with, and on un-moderated public servers it would be worse.

a bugged ship apparently cannot be dismantled /destroyed .... i tried to deconstruct one with both a annihilator ..and a demo hammer without success ... so crafted another ship and pushed the bugged hull entirely inside a pb .... and again no success in trying to dismantle or destroy. Looks like these hulls are as indestructible as some of my cooking failures!

How about the females undies being a two piece ?
..
Regarding the changes..... Look to where the money is. They say if all the Chinese wore their sleeves one inch longer, the demand for cloth would outstrip the worlds supply. So it is with games etc, if Ylands is a big success in these Asian countries, the sales profits etc would make the rest of the world pale into insignificance.
I understand the changes..its to attract the majority, and typical business practices. If you are going to sell bikinis an you live in Antarctica, expect your market to be in tropical warmer countries and cater for them ...and also vary the styles to suit conservative and also more "liberal" countries....
Otherwise you lose profitability, Big sales in China / Asia will ensure funds to hire more developers etc to improve the game.

The small boats work well ..i saw one that was modified with a deck and barrels like pontoons around the side ( used for storage) ... its only the rafts and ships that have issues ... which is rather amusing at the moment, when you see a griefer steal your ship that's been affected by the bug, and after being unable to steer or control it, jumps overboard and becomes shark food

When a new update arrives there is a surge of enthusiasm, and the new items and fixes are greatly appreciated and enjoyed.
But after three days, bugs appear... either old ones reappear or others that have not been fixed becoming more obvious, or the new "fixes" and inclusions fixing a lot of things, break other things!
So after a short period of time, the player runs into something that renders the game unplayable or causes it to stagnate.
The new friendships update is a great innovation... the game needed it and it is a game saver,
BUT ....
Ships are now broken. And there's a swathe of other things disrupting the game that other players have mentioned ..and there has been no acknowledgement or response.
So ... now i will twiddle my thumbs ...or look for some other game to play ..... while waiting for a future Ylands "hotfix" or update.
When will that be? no one seems to know...
But i hope its soon ... the game is fun, and it is getting better, BUT.... ?????

Given up on ships.
I tried again, keeping it simple ,,, basic hull fore aft 5 engines helm anchor some lanterns and a small covered area with sleeping and seating facilities.
Released anchor, and ship moved with the waves , so did everything else on the ship ...looked promising.
lowered anchor then went to helm and E to assemble ship .... bang bang etc and all looked ok .
released anchor and took helm ship moved and half the engines, lanterns and the covered area blocks went with the ship .. the rest stayed put!
Ok so tried E to try and fix things ... and ship parts went everywhere... so then tried to deconstruct it all ...no go ... annihilator or demolition hammer useless ..
Again, got a useless hull which will not accept anything to be built on it ... and from the reports in discord i am not alone. I hear even rafts are a disaster... inverting when placed in the water.
Didn't bother with logs.. already sent some previously. ...and its the same issue.
Sailing?....not worth trying...

..would an eagle feather do ?

Well the new game on the P1 pve server has started and its got something that should weed out the real players from the one-off-ers.
You spawn on a platform int the middle of the ocean surrounded by shark infested waters
. You do have some basic items such as a map flint lighter, clothing etc.
If you really want to play the game, then read the instructions .. rules etc posted nearby and then sit in a chair that's marked with the type of island .. , and you get whisked away to that island to start your adventure.
Otherwise you just sit there until the cleaners come through at the end of the day and toss you out with the trash

-
just think of the results of this ....less skin cancers and lunacy! ... but watch out for werewolves and vampires!

-
return of the /who command to see whose lurking...
markers to indicate on spawn whose base is on what island ...
starter kit to include a one off key to a chest containing dinghy construction materials so a new arrival can craft a dinghy and explore.... if they opt not to use the "uber" chairs
admins to have access to day/night controls ...such as the "gun" ( that was cool!)...
maybe additional npc's with stuff to help new starters establish.
will probably think of more when brain gets revived with some morning coffee..

The genius-ses at P! are deviously thinking of ways to purge spawn of the unwanted abandoned corpses that build up there. The area gets denuded rapidly and often huge structures are built by one off players that lag the area badly.
The P1 team always put in some magical chairs that can whisk you away to another island , thus sharing the population load around the grid., but alas most do not use it, preferring to try and build at spawn and getting their building raided/destroyed by griefers.
So whats planned?
Well discussions are underway on how to persuade people to leave spawn ..and to set up a base somewhere else. Defaulters will be " de-spawned" after a certain period of inactivity.
One is to place spawn on an un-hospitable island, with no place to build .. you have to use a magical chair to move to an island that supports life.
otherwise you freeze to death ..and despawn.
Another proposal being considered is that if you do move to another island, just sitting there counting your freckles will see you despawn if you do not have somewhere with a PB set up to protect yourself.
And their are more suggestions being tossed into the hat for consideration.
So what does this mean?
....simply read the notices , and get in a chair to go to another island... then asap start a base with your PB active. Else end up removed from the game.
If you are one of those that use other players hard work, if you are offline without PB protection, you could end up losing all the stuff you made/stole/borrowed/ and end up in your undies back at spawn .... to start over again.
Its going to be interesting to see whats implemented, and what the effects are. For those who are serious players and not in the game to simply "stir" ...it will make the game more enjoyable.

Please please please do not add any more "shiny trinkets" until you can get the game running smoothly and the current problems fixed.
The Updates are awesome ...with what they add, but they also add more things to be fixed, at the expense of not fixing things from the previous update.
At the moment the game quickly stagnates after a new map is established and the problems become apparent. Not everyone is interested in scripting , or working in the editor, and these areas seem to be being given priority over the base game.
Please... look at all the comments by Comr... and several others. There's a lot to be done, and although we are patient, not everyone can stay patient. its getting to the stage that when we hear talk of updates to fix things... we treat it as a joke !
Ylands has great potential .... but it needs to recruit new players and keep existing players to keep it going.
As it is, about 3 days after an update , the servers literally become a player wasteland.
