UNDER REVIEW [YLD-9259] Player locks up dedicated server by logging in - all other player clients lock up as well

Here's a new one - started up a new test server using an editor-generated map. Things were working fine until one of our player testers crashed while on their boat and after logging back in, lost control of their character (flailing around endlessly unable to move). Ever since then, every time they attempt to log in, it gets to 100% and then locks up the server. The headless monitor times out whenever attempting to communicate to the server, and all other players lock up. The server process has to be forcibly ended and clients have to end their tasks as well to restart. It's now gotten to the point where the server freezes every night. I'm taking the Foobar server down and will assess the situation in a future release. -
Is this for Singer Player, Player-hosted Multiplayer, or Dedicated Server Multiplayer? If it's Single Player, I would check to see if any other applications are running that are competing for CPU and Memory resources. If it's Multiplayer, I'd try another host or server to see if it happens there as well. If it happens for any of them, then it sounds like it could be an Internet problem - either something else is eating up your Internet bandwidth or there's a problem in between you and the host. If it only happens to a specific host, then the problem is on their side. If the problem is happening for any mode, and your CPU and Memory resources are fine, I'd check to see if anything is overheating (CPU or GPU). Modern day processors throttle themselves if they start to overheat so as to prevent catastrophic failure. This overheating can be caused by a build up of dust on heat syncs and fans/vents, mechanical failure where fans no longer spin, insufficient coolant for liquid-cooled systems, etc. TL;DR: it could be a lot of factors, we'll need more details to troubleshoot, but the above should be a good start.

Goes without saying - many of us have reported that already. We're not saying do this instead of fixing the existing problems. The whole game needs fixing before enhancing any functionality, to be honest. -

Look for the birds and follow them to land. Whenever you run into the warning that there’s nothing in front of you but blue ocean, shift 45 degrees until you clear the message and keep going. You’ll run into something sooner or later.

How long does your server last in Multiplayer?

What kind of resources are you guys giving your server? Mine's a VM with 6 dedicated Xeon 3.2ghz cores and 32GB of memory. I have a total of 144GB on the physical but I've never allocated more than 32GB to the Ylands server (running Windows Server 2016 on the VM with a Proxmox hypervisor on the host). -
How long does your server last in Multiplayer?

We made it up to 52MB on 0.7 before we refreshed with 0.8. Our current map is presently at 42MB. We'll see how long it manages to stay afloat. -

They didn't kill you because you currently have the invincibility bug. The golden hearts on the top left of the screen indicate that you can't take damage. Enjoy your superpowers, and remember with great power comes great responsibility. -
How long does your server last in Multiplayer?

My map has been running since 0.8 as well. I restart it twice a day and perform cleanup of corpses and other junk every day. Inevitably, we end up with lag, can’t reach errors, and eventual hangs if we don’t perform a restart after peak use. it just isn’t stable enough to run without constant babysitting. Honestly at this point I’m probably not going to keep it up once it crashes hard again. There are open issues that have to be fixed like players logging in that hard crash the server instance. -
Not a complete solution, but you can turn off the protection barrier so that others can help build on your lot, chests and doors can likewise be shared by duplicating the keys associated to their locks and giving the keys to your friends.

The barrier only protects your person while you are offline. If you are online, you are still susceptible to attack. Items you build in the barrier are always protected, whether you are online or not. Build a house, lock the door, stay safe within.

Just confirmed - the spawn were a different color than the parents.

No idea, but one of my own experiments resulted in a spawn today - just dropped two mutated hyenas in a cave, enclosed each within their own indestructible cage (I don't want any players to kill them) and separated them about 10 feet apart from each other. After allowing the server to run on its own without watching them, one of the players on my server reported that they spawned one inside of the cage with the original, and another outside of the cage.

One caveat to this last restart was that it involved a backup from around 15 minutes prior, so is it possible that the backup happened before the hull disappeared the first time around? -

Wonder if it's the problem we reported whereby a certain player gets into an unstable state that causes the server process to become unresponsive when they log in... -
I don't think they need to be spread out to the extent of one animal per barrier coverage zone - it was just coincidence that the horses I referred to were all fenced in to an area confined to that size. I've had a spawn of 6 goats in a much smaller area, barely enough for them to stand in and have some space between them.
