Day off Challenge- Caliga Hall

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I was given a whole day off yesterday and what better way to spend it than start a build project! After spending approximately 6 solid hours building, I present to you the fruits of my addicted labor!

Many of you may have played Red Dead Redemption 2. So I decided to build my version of Caliga Hall!

RDR2_Faction_GrayFamily_CaligaHall-3234-

Caliga Hall as it appears in RDR2 based off of the real 'Shirley Plantation' in Virginia

Here's my rendition on Caliga, I've added a few details here and there.

So in the space of one working day I have pretty much completed the external structure. The real time-consuming element is fitting in a comfortable, flowing interior. Currently on Exploration 1.5, my Home island lies unused. I intend to build a nice plantation and develop the land to be used as a functioning home and base of operations for my little clan.

I also have plans to build other structures such as stables, barns etc. These will be designed to the same architectural standard as Caliga Hall.

I appreciate any feedback and upon completion, I will welcome any visitors! Thanks guys!

I’ve managed to generate the perfect ‘continental’ tropical island to build my plantation on.

It took approximately Thirteen Minutes between selecting the structure from my blueprint catalogue to it actually loading the placement ghost! It took a further 5 minutes to render the blueprint outline after I placed the Projector!

I might have made this beast a little bit too detailed! I spent a good solid morning grinding about 7000 wooden logs with approximately 5000 stone and other bits and pieces still to go! It’s looking great though!

I’ll post some progress photos soon! I look forward to inviting you all over! :)

After helping Jrock build a blueprint with almost 24 thousand glass, I don't think 7000 logs is a big deal LOL. I can't wait to see this island you are building on. Is it on the new experimental explore or is it on old legacy maps? Shoot an invite when you are ready to make it a sharegame. I not only want to see the buidlings, but also am curious about the massive island

I was so lucky! Not only did I find the perfect jungle continent, but it’s also home to Artyen the NPC. He’s my favourite merchant as he has the best selection of traceable resources.

My home is now finished! I’ll post screenshots shortly!

Ladies & Gentlemen! It's still a work in progress. But my home is really taking shape!

I'm delighted to show you the interior of Flintlock Hall! Enjoy!

-Front view of the hall at night. Car still under construction!

-Main atrium/hallway. I have a number of display cabinets that I'm going to populate with a number of collectables and relics =D I have free-placed a torch in each cabinet to illuminate the contents at night.

-Another example of a cabinet found upstairs. The Iron Man Armour set is still one of my favorite display pieces!

-The dining/conference room. I used the Desk Lamps to great effect as picture lights!

-A large display cabinet found in my private study. More pictures of the study to be uploaded later!

-For my final picture and in honour of a particular Community Manager, I present the Snellgrove Lounge! All I need now is the Male Stone Bust to put on display and it's complete!

Thanks for your interest guys! Hopefully when 1.6 implements some reliable protections on this map I will be happy to have the doors to Flintlock Manor swing open to any and all visitors from our Ylands Community!

Lots going on this morning! I'm busy building the two bunkhouses that flank the manor. These houses will accommodate my crafting stations, resources and 'if anyone's interested' accommodation for plantation employees and ranchers.

Thanks for your interest in this project. After a number of incarnations Its actually brought me a lot of pleasure to finally start building my permanent residence in this format.

With the upcoming terrain-smoothing tool I will be able to sculpt good looking roadways and fields where I will begin to cultivate and export Tea Leaves! =D

I got an early finish at work today 'being Friday of course'. So with the extra time I absolutely blitzed construction of Flintlock Hall and whilst there is still much to do, I have finished the two bunkhouses. My car is also complete and I've even added a neat looking entrance true to the appearance of Caliga Hall in RDR2. I now look forward to the release of 1.6 so I can do some much needed landscaping prior to planting crops and laying some roads. Overall, Id say the current state of my ranch looks great!

Ah yes! I was having a toss-up over which plantation I was going to base my home on. I loved the red brick effect that Caliga had over Oak Alley.

That being said, I would like to try to design Oak Alley if not as a residence, but for the challenge!

-My new Expedition Office is now taking shape! It's here that I plan my adventures, craft potions and display my Egyptian artefacts.

-A display cabinet dedicated to the treasure I've found over the last few months.

20210322220604_1.thumb.jpg.81a947374ed683f534268415ac486b3a.jpg

-I always try to keep the first Flint Knife I craft when playing a fresh exploration map. The sentimental value I have placed on this one is very high! I crafted it back when 1.5 first started!

 20210322220703_1.thumb.jpg.55d58311f21eab4ba0743a104bbe6124.jpg

-Here is a view of the upstairs parlor. This is a large room accommodating my gun cabinet and it is located adjacent to my Study through the curtains. It still needs more decoration!

 20210322220730_1.thumb.jpg.cd6172543e4c5dd46871e473c2be65a6.jpg

-And finally, I finish this update with another angle of the main atrium. As the Barrier will soon be a thing of the past, I have decided to encase it in a display. -That is of course if it doesn't despawn when 1.6 arrives!

Thats all for now guys! Thanks for following this thread! Ill upload more screenshots of the developments going on outside! In the meantime, i have a lot of landscaping to do!

Here's another outside shot of the plantation. I've used Ice Blocks harvested from my polar outpost to create a very appealing roadway. I also have planted and grown some ornamental palm trees to flank the entrance.

How you made the curtains?

I made them using nothing more than simple 1x1x1 Log Pieces!

My window frames are actually quite thick, so in this case I was able to make the curtains look quite neat. Most times they are very bulky looking.

Oh wow never thought of using the log pieces for curtains!!! That's an interesting idea and it can be included in blueprints perfectly!

I originally used Cloth and Leather -made unpickable via the Editor- but for obvious reasons it's not practical to do so in Exploration 1.5. The log blocks work brilliantly and as they're saved on a blueprint, they get built seemlessly!

It makes things easier for future builds. Saving the little details and pieces. Especially the curved pieces you like to use.

By the way I also love the little display cases. It really adds a lot of nice detail to the work.

Well as soon as I was able to get out there and explore, I found myself quickly accumulating a lot of unique outfits, weapons and objects. Which is great! Although, I'm the type of guy who just sticks to one outfit, so therefore I wanted to come up with a solution that would make a good use of them without having to stash them in an old chest somewhere. Also I can now show them off for bragging rights of course =P
