Bohemia Incubator is a publishing label that our company, Bohemia Interactive, uses for experimental games and game prototypes that are made available to the public. You can learn more about Bohemia Incubator here.

Ylands is among the first two games that were released under this label. It basically means that Ylands is not a final game - it's still an Alpha version. For that reason, you should be aware of the fact that the game is far from being complete and does not have all the features and cool things we want it to have. It also means that the game can sometimes break, crash or do weird things.

After more than 18 months of development, we wanted to involve you, the players, in the development as well - and this is the reason why we released Ylands as an Alpha version in the Bohemia Incubator.

Don't worry, you're not alone! Some people call the game wyelands (or even whylands), and the pronunciation has been a hot topic in our office as well. The correct way to pronounce the name is pretty much the same as the usual islands though (or 'aɪlənds if you're into phonetics).

There's a pretty simple logic behind it:

  • Ylands is all bout procedurally generated low polygon islands that you can play with, and you can do whatever you want with them. It's basically your lands. Mix it all up, give it a good shake and you have Ylands!
  • In old English, yland was actually the correct spelling for the word we know today as island!

When we finish Ylands, we want it to be a friendly and beautiful sandbox game that empowers your creativity. Our plan is to keep working on the game for many years to come.

Right now, we sell Ylands Early Alpha as is, for a lower-than-usual price (our plan is to double the price for the full release). We have plans to make all sorts of awesome & crazy things, but sometimes, it's not so easy and we may, at some point, decide that we don't really want to add this or that.

Right now, the only place where you can purchase the game is the Bohemia Interactive Store. Although our plan is for Ylands to be available on Steam in summer 2017.

Ylands is both a sandbox game and a platform for making custom scenarios, ranging from simple levels to sophisticated adventures.

The key features of the game are explained here in detail.

For now Ylands Early Alpha is only available via the Bohemia Interactive Store and in order to buy the game there, you are required to create your own personal Bohemia Account. Having the account has other benefits too: it works as your unique in-game identity, you can use it to log in to the Ylands Forums and in the future, it will also be used for advanced community features such as finding friends or sharing your creations with other players.

This will change after Ylands is available on Steam - you will then be able to use your Steam account to play, and the Bohemia Interactive account will only be necessary for certain specific advanced features.

Right now, Ylands is available only on PC, but we plan to release the game on more platforms as the development progresses. To play Ylands Early Alpha, you need to meet these requirements:

OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (64-bit Operating System Required)
Processor: Intel Core i3-4160 @ 3.60GHz processor
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: discrete DirectX 11 GPU with at least 1GB of VRAM
DirectX: 11
Hard Drive: 1 GB
OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (64-bit Operating System Required)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4690K @ 3.50GHz processor
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
DirectX: 11
Hard Drive: 1 GB

Please note that these requirements are based on the current Early Alpha performance. As we progress with optimizations, the requirements will be lowered.

Currently, we are only releasing the PC version, because it's our primary development platform, but we intend to make Ylands fully multi-platform. Our plans involve a release on consoles sometime in the near future and we would also like to make the game available on Mac and Linux.

Ylands runs on the Unity engine.

You can report bugs and leave your suggestions and feedback on our forums. Please make sure to use the search feature to ensure that someone else has not already reported the same thing.

Right now, the game is available in English, Spanish and Czech. If you want to participate in translating the game into your language, please let us know this forum thread.

By enabling this you help us gather in-game statistics (e.g., which biome is played the most) that can be used to balance the game. This option is on by default, but it can be switched off in the games' main menu.
