  1. So I've seen people wanting to have an endless, continouisly generated world. There's probably a reason they didn't do that to begin with. Savegame bloating? Lag? Who knows.

Well, we've been having a discussion on the Steam forums about this. Seeing as these forums are more active than the Steam forums, I wanted to re-post what ideas we got here. This is 1:1 copied from http://steamcommunity.com/app/298610/discussions/0/1697167803861642679/

    Good idea yeah. Thanks.

Which gives me an idea. Why not automate this process.
It may be complicated to include so many ylands in a single world, that's okay.
But here's the idea: Use the grid map.

Take one world, Use it as one piece in a grid. When you sail out of bounds ("There is only blue sea from here"), it will load up a loading screen and automatically copy-paste you in a newly generated world*. "Non-active" worlds should hereby be hidden in the selection menu. So say you sail out of the south end of your world, you should appear at the north end of the next world. Use the equivalent for N, E, W.

The issue, what about diagonal sailing? You could just use the area to that direction, but technically a grid square does not touch the diagonal squares around it. Here we would need some kind of "tolerance zone, giving it edges towards diagonal worlds. This would essentially mean we get Hexagonal map grids. Complicated? Yes.

So that idea is all fun and good but sort of complicated. A much easier way to do it would be adding "world portals" to the game. Basically just a portal to another world. These might be structures found on high sea, and there should be mutliple in each world.

What do you think? Just daydreaming here really. I will be posting this on the official forums however, see what they think.

*: Maybe add a hotkey for travel, or a "turn around" timer so you don't accidentally trigger this.

  2. Hi, it's me again. My current building project is starting to look good. Outer shell is almost complete, rooms are seperated. So I'd like to share this on some platforms once done. However, none of the Overlays seem to work. Yes, there is the in-game screenshot function, but these are not as easily shareable as Steam screens. Furthermore, I use Shadowplay a lot in other games, the overlay doesn't work here. Any ideas on how to get this to work?

On another note, I want to make curtains. I had the idea of stretched and thickened horse hide next to windows. The scaling widget doesn't seem to allow this. Is it selective in what I can scale or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for the answers,

    Migel

  3. Hi, so I started another huge building project a few days ago. As all my projects, I started in Explore mode, just because I think building in it is much more exciting and rewarding than in creative mode. What I was going for this time was a southern-states Mansion, heavily inspired by  Dunleith Mansion, Natchez, Mississippi. Look it up, it's a gorgeous building.  After placing the outer ring (Pillars and foundation), I started constructing the west wall of the first floor. These were SINGLE plank blocks.

So I haven't worked with paint in Explore mode before. Now here's the issue: Painting a SINGLE block takes six white pigments. Mortaring a white plant gives you ten white pigments.  Let's be generous, say every block needs half a plant. Making two floors worth of walls, a balcony, the foundation and the pillars from SINGLE blocks is... A LOT of paint required. I'm not gonna do any maths, I choose sizes how I think they look good, not based on measurements. But I'll say, that's thousands, tens of thousands of pigments. I found 200 spawned in a structure, and it was really not much. Getting tens of thousands of these plants would be a massive grind. I do realize you can technically exponentially increase the amount of plants gained by just breaking them down into seeds and replanting them, but even that would be a LOT of work. The planting animation is slow, and breaking stuff down is a chore. While at it, I think Ylands needs automation. Something to rapidly farm low-value items while you are off doing something else. Automatic mining drills, crafting stations, industrial furnaces, grinders, all that stuff.

So what would you recommend me to do? Is there a way to cheat items (Pigments)? Can I change the mode into creative? Or should I just abandon this project all together?

Whatever the case, I probably won't be doing big builds like this in Explore mode anymore. Whenever I tried something unusual, there was always something holding me back. So many failed projects. Well, thanks for any tips.

  4. Hi, so I was building a house ispired by this style of buildings:

    01.jpg

I just liked the idea of having a green roof with vegetation on it. My version is single-floored and was intended to have a flat full-glass front on both sides.

    Ylands_180128_161254.thumb.png.7475b6fa0a203347a8e575faba857724.pngYlands_180128_161309.thumb.png.ed98d6cbdc58bb7ab62747c7f7562b63.png

Unfortunately, there's a massive problem here: Having the dirt on top seems to make the "house" a cave. The horizon turns pitch black, fully invalidating the glass front and the panorama from the living room.

    Ylands_180128_161337.thumb.png.8864c49c1b2c1eb860a4cf8dc4760eaa.pngYlands_180128_161339.thumb.png.786e676b9ad20a0a54c278a33d62a2a1.png

A fireplace and lanterns light the house itself very dimly, and make even the center of the - pretty slim - house hard to navigate.

    Ylands_180128_161348.thumb.png.f0f279ce6b1afb698e6c1f6e76e72c58.png

I guess that's just how caves work in this game. The game checks how much dirt is above, and if there's enough of it, it just turns everything pitch black until a light is shining on it. I have no plans to light all of my panorama up with torches

I'll probably just abandon this project. I seriously doubt there'll be any changes or ways to get daylight into the house without breaking the roof.  I've put only around 5 hours in it so it's not like it's the project of a lifetime. Still bummed. Just wanted to show that... this problem exists, I guess. If anyone has an idea how to save this project, I'm happy to listen to suggestions.

  5. Some items or stacks tend to just glitch out of the inventory screen, making them inaccessible while still occupying a slot. The only thing fixing this is a full restart. Its making building a pain, as sometimes entire stacks of panels just go away.

Playing multiplayer doesnt work if I have to restart the server every five minutes. Please look into this.

  6. Hi, this will probably my last post.

It finally works. I got Escape From Tarkov and Cities: Skylines, which both showed the exact same error message. I eventually reset my PC to factory settings, then installed all aviable Windows Updates without upgrading to 8.1. It runs smoothly now, and looks great. I'll be playing this for a while now.

Thanks a lot for the help, guys! See you around!

  7. That sounds like it might work.

I've had problems whenever I updated to 8.1 so far, especially with my network.

I believe the main issue is my utterly outdated receiver USB-stick, which appears to be incompatible with 8.1. I 've been meaning to get a new router for a long time and this might just be the excuse I needed. I'll think about it these next days, might be a while until I next post.

Thanks for all the support, have never gotten this big of a response from devs :)

  8. Hey again,

I had been laying low, waiting for a patch to fix it or for a response on my support ticket. I got one today. I doubt they read it. I was told to report the problem here  and attach both output_log and dxdiag, both of which I detailed having already done in the sent report.

So instead of making a new topic here I'm just gonna keep going here.

The issue stays the same. Have not found a fix yet. Have tried everything listed before. Have not tried creating another account on my OS, as I do not see why that would ever work.

    Here again, the requested files.

    2017-12-12_161456.rar

    DxDiag.txt

I'll also mention again (Just as in the support request I sent) that the "output_log_clean" file I was asked repeadetly to include does not exist in the specified location.

Still hoping for a possible solution, thanks in advance,

    Migel

  9. Hey Yood,

First of all, thanks for suggesting a solution. I might try that later today. That's a really, really weird solution though. Maybe some problem with different authorization states? I mean I'm sure you have admin rights but... huh. Did you get the error message though?

    kimbuck,

can I still get a trial version somewhere? I'd like to try it out in one way or another. Also wonder if a crack might work. Is it still illegal to crack a game if I paid the creators for it? I mean, that's a base question I have, would other  versions of the game work.

  10. So from what you recommended... This apparently is a driver problem. Now, we've established that these new drivers don't really seem to fix this particular problem. There's a new one out today, I'll try that later... but not  getting my hopes up.

What about the other direction though? Could a driver rollback get me there?

Day 3... really getting hyped again, watched some YouTube videos now, looks fun.

  11. Hey again,

downloaded the Driver package from provided link, then did a manual istall, first having the installer uninstall everything and do a clean install.

Then restarted PC and downloaded today's 10MB patch for Ylands. Ran as admin and normally, in both cases, same error message as before.

DxDiag after driver wipe and reinstall:

    DxDiag.txt

New Crash folder, generated after driver updates:

    Bummer.

Thank you. It seems to me from your dxdiag like your drivers are somehow bonked. Could you please download and install these: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/388.43/388.43-desktop-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe

In the installer select custom installation and check the box saying something along the lines of "perform a clean installation."

Thank you, sounds good. I'll start downloading now, might take the entire afternoon due to slow internet. Happy to do it if there's a chance it helps.

Also, I noticed something special about  the Ylands installation that's different from the usual Steam installation process:
After downloading, upon first launching the application, normally I would get a Steam window popup, saying its installing VCRedist and I believe DirectX too, before launching the game itself. This hasn't happened on any of the installs I tried to run for Ylands. Is this normal behaviour?

t issues that you might face.

Moreover, when you say it's giving an error -

Is there any 'more information' button presented?

Is it Windows, or Steam or Ylands that is providing this error (Windows will usually handle a crashed program, but Steam and Ylands are also capable of providing errors on startup!)

If it's Windows, there should be a more info button, and it should provide some form of error code, that could help us narrow down the cause.

I can't really tell, though I think Windows is doing it - using the Ylands logo in the taskbar. As you see, all I can do it "Ok" or "X" out.

Messing around with Compatibility Option earlier prompted Windows to ask wether the program was run correctly, upon saying "no" it just offered other compatibility settings - Tried all of those, no change.

  14. So... Can't figure out what's going on. It's been nearly a day now, and I've tried just about anything. Here's what I tried:

    -Verifying Game Files using Steam

    -Restarting Steam and Restarting PC

-Launching .exe as admin and launching Steam as admin

    -Shutting down Firewall

    -Getting newest Graphics card drivers

-Fully uninstalling and doing a fresh re-download of Ylands

-Closing all antivirus and and antimalware applications before launching.

-Setting .exe as always launch as admin, then starting trough Steam (Guy on the Steam forums said it fixed it)

    Edit:

-Changed launch options per Steam, concerning Startup Settings and Direct X versions.

-> None of these steps solved or changed the problem in any way. My hardware above, I went over it a few times and I'm convinced it meets the minimum reqs for playing.

Currently also have a Steam thread running, dev response told me to ask here.

From we can see, it crashes on creating gfx device, so at this point we can only suggest trying to update drivers :/

Not great news but very helpful. Sounds like it might work, so I'll run the driver update overnight. Thanks a lot.

John, my PC Specs are the following:

    GTX 760 1.5GB

    Intel Core i7 4770

    With 12GB DDR3.

1TB HDD, Running Win 8.0, plenty of free space remaining.

    Attached: DXDiag as .txt

    DxDiag.txt

Thanks again, I'll post on updates tomorrow.

    P.S.: Should I expect a Day-One patch tonight?
