  1. Sweet, was gonna ask for implementation of water vs fire but good to see it's there! :) Also, when going against the wind I think you would rather lower your sails instead of raise them ;)

  2. Hello guys!

Because the server software isn't 100% stable/reliable it's not really rewarding to play Explore on my server at the minute with you guys. Instead I have decided to make a few minigames we can play together to have some fun in Ylands and do some more testing ofcourse! :) The first event will be a little boat race:

EVENT TIME: FRIDAY EVENING, TBA, EXPECT ANYWHERE BETWEEN 19:00 AND 00:00 GMT

Aye sailors! Captain Adrie here! Many years ago, a pirate by the name of Mad Jack has stolen my Sea Urchin Trophy! I've been trying to get it back from him but he always managed to escape me. I recently heard from a fellow sailor that Jack has run out of luck and is taking a deeper look at the bottom of the ocean ;) My trophy is in a chest at his old tower, yet he took the key with him to the bottom.

That's where you young sailors come in! Sail to his shipwreck, make a quick dive, get the key, sail back and open the chest for me. Also, my friend told me something about a curse but it can't be all that bad eh? Now why would you do this for me? I've heard Mad Jack was a very fortunate man after stealing and plundering for so many years! I'm only after my trophy, the rest is yours to keep ;)

    Ylands_170620_223539.thumb.png.159a61b91e4811cb144383e7c5b0dbc9.png

I've supplied a few boats, all numbered from 1 to 10. Be sure to pick your lucky number, you are gonna need it!

    Ylands_170620_223555.thumb.png.de8dc1a102a7e8fa125660a210a171ec.png

Ah, his old tower with the chest. My trophy must be in there!

    Ylands_170620_223621.thumb.png.eeae838ae690b71eb203b93d2330b8ac.png

I'm sure experienced sailors like you will find the way! Now be quick and get me what belongs to me, your reward shall be great!

    Some practical info:

    1) All players should grab a boat and move to the starting line.

    2) When I shoot my pistol, the bars will disappear and the race has started!

    3) Navigate yourself to the shipwreck, it's marked by an arrow sign.

    4) Jump off your boat, dive into the water, grab a key and get back to your boat! Not someone elses boat ofcourse!

    5) Sail back to the island, beach your boat on the tiny island

    6) First player to unlock the chest wins!

After we have a winner I will restart the server and we can do it again :) If this concept works I will create more races, maybe different themes or just boat racing in general. Because the server usually lasts at least 30 minutes before crashing we should have no problem and a lot of fun!

I might make at least one other minigame we can play to vary a bit, but that will probably be PVP. I'm working on some sort of CTF game, keep your eyes on this thread! :)

  3. My brand new top spec server suffers from the same problem as well, at the moment it's running between 50 and 80% CPU on the monitor and less than 10% on Ylands. The logs for the other bug are from the server so they should contain the same error, see bottom of this post.

Also I start to notice that the same bugs keep getting reported all the time, partly due to bugs being described different, topic titles not explaining what's going on etc., which is a shame since there are definitely some bugs out there that are limiting playability and should be top priority. Maybe we could have a bug tracker like on Dayz?

Our latest server save got corrupted in a new way, it won't load in the server :( I've tried to send the save to my own PC but I can't even open it in single player either. The server froze like it does all the time, yet it won't load this map anymore. Making a new map or loading another map works.

  4. It seems that at the moment the first person camera view is actually quite a bit higher than the actual character's head. If we build cars or boats with closed cabins, or even normal house windows, either it makes the build look silly or you won't be able to look outside through the window. Would be nice if this could be aligned.

Hm what about RD on your smartphone?

All you need is some kind of ticket system where the users can contact you and all you need to do is log on your server and do whatever needs to be done

That's a very legit idea, gonna check how much data that's gonna use :)

    "Breaks" ....... sure.... ;)

However and I dont know your line of work but that appears to look like VPN/Tunneling and may set off some bells and whistles on the network security logs.

If I would have the skills to monitor a server during my job I'd get a raise ;) And I'm thinking that by making it over webbrowser it might actually be alright, normal RD doesn't work indeed.

  7. Hello,

I've been hosting my server now for about a week on multiple maps and been looking at how things are going and what we need. In this topic I will be listing the things that are useful/necessary features to have a fun experience with a larger group of players on a server. Bugs will not be covered.

Automatic regrowth of animals and plants: One of the problems I noticed is certain types of plants vanishing from the spawn island, for example cotton. Players pick cotton, build a boat and sail to another island, until there is no cotton left for anyone since nobody replanted any. It would be nice if we would have random planted seeds matching the biome spawning every now and then. When stuff gets more scarce players will notice, harvest it and probably plant some more for themselves :) Same goes for animals, you currently need leather in quite a few recipes. It would be nice if for example the blacksmith forge could be made with more sustainable items.

Larger vains: Vains actually run out pretty quick on the surface at the moment. The problem at the moment is that the veins on the starter islands run out really quick. For new players joining after a while there will be no easy ores left, instead they have to make huge holes or go in dangerous caves. If there are more islands available for people to start on then this wouldn't be much of a problem as players can leave the starting island and get their own island. See the next point for this.

"Infdev": Space, islands and resources are finite now. Therefor there is a maximum amount of players that can play the game, the earlier someone joins the more there will be left for them. If the game would automatically generate new islands, or even better, certain groups of islands, people could set sail to a new island for them to start out. Each group of players can have their own place yet they can all visit eachother, trade, or share islands together.

Code locks: The option to store your loot away safe, so if you die nobody can take your stuff. Same goes for doors, if you lose the keys you are locked out and someone else can get in.

Admin tools: Currently everyone can do whatever he wants wherever he wants. There is no protected buildings/area's, no pvp/pve only area's, no player building rights. It would be nice to have the possibility of being able to mark area's/zones with such flags/categories.

Another admin tool could be a whitelist system, ranks with different privileges, to open doors, build on island xyz, etc.

Have the possibility to restore the results of griefing locally, or regenerate parts of ylands to their original state based on the seed? This could refresh the spawn island to keep it playable for all players.

Player tools: The power to form groups and a permission system to build would be nice. Builds could be either group or per player controlled. Access to certain containers as well. Something like a plotpole of tool cupboard maybe?

Server tools: Make it possible to start, restart and load up the server with some batch files/commands for easier hosting. Also Linux would be nice as windows usually costs about 25€ per month.

I'll add to this topic if I find anything else we can use :)

Attaching engines to ships is something we are already discussing. Having trailers sounds like fun - something like this won't make it to 0.5 for sure, but I can see this as a nice expansion to cars in future :) Thanks for the idea.

It's the end result that counts ofcourse! :) Will there be different "tiers" of engines and/or different fuel types? Ylandium, coal, some sort of high tier refined fuel, multiple power engines with different sizes and fuel consumptions? And will there be multiple size chassis' like we have with boats? I'm excited to find out!

Well they did say modding will be  coming, and if it is 1 thing Bohemia Interactive is famous for it is the modding community :)  If the Ylands team makes a decision not to do certain things it cold be possible for the mod community to make it possible.

Oh yes, I've played some of the nice mods for Arma 2 and 3 :) I have a feeling however that for Ylands to be more accessible it should be easy for players to just hop on a server and enjoy themselves without having to download loads of mods before they can join. I guess you also know those times where you just want to run too much (incompatible) mods and try to get it all to work :D

  10. Hello,

It would be very useful to have a tool that could perform the "smoothing" function that the terraformer has, to make some nice slopes for the upcoming cars. The stone slopes look a little too steep and at the moment you can only dig, place or completely flatten the ground. By placing dirt and smoothing it we could create some realistic roads uphill as well :)

@WijkagentAdrie Cars on boats: that is, indeed, planned.

@A3_Melle It's possible that we will be showing Ylands there as well. We'll be able to tell you more at a later date.

@massivelyindie Much appreciated! "More to come?"... I wouldn't worry about that - our Big Picture to-do list has enough features and ideas for at least a few more years of intense development :)

In that case: What about having the possibility of attaching trailers to our cars? Also would be nice to be able to put the engines on our boats :) Trading off the use of fuel for a faster, independent of wind kind of sailing.

    Hey there,

i hope your server will be running again soon.

Seen it on the server list and now im waiting for it to be back up.

    Greetings

    Judge

    It's back up again!

I've ordered the new server. Had to get a different host because the one where I wanted to order couldn't get what I wanted.

    Serverspecs now:

    i7 4770, 3,4ghz

    32GB of ram,

    240GB SSD.

This should definitely be good enough for now :) I've just done some quick testing and there is no more lag when picking stuff up, it all goes instantly. Will keep an eye out on stability, if it crashes please send me a message in the discord, on the forums or add wijkagentadrie on Steam!

One of the devs has answered it, the answer is yes :) I have made the part where he says it bold:

    Hi there, fellow ylanders.

This post is going to be a tiny bit longer than usual, but it‘s quite important that you read it.

First, let me tell you what is it that we've been working on so hard for the last several weeks. There are two awesome new features that will be coming out in 0.5, but we actually had to have them in the presentable state way sooner than that. Why? Well... because we need to show them in a video. In a very special video. In a really cool new Ylands trailer.

With the trailer being finished the only question is when do we show it to the general public. What about E3? No, wait - what about one of the most important PC gaming events of the year, the famous E3 PC Gaming Show? Yes, exactly, that one! We are SO excited about being part of this show; about having the privilege of talking about the game and showing the trailer to around 1 million live viewers!

If you get the chance to watch that (for more information see http://www.pcgamingshow.com) you will get to see the two new 0.5 features in the trailer, and then let us know in here how you liked them!

PC Gaming Show & Ylands. Monday, June 12 @ 10 AM PDT. Soooo excited!

Now let's move to another pressing topic at hand. Some of you have asked, "when does Ylands enter Steam", so let me tell you what we‘re going to tell anyone at E3:

Ylands is coming to Steam later this year.

We used to say "summer" - so why now, instead of giving you a solid date, we're coming up with an even more vague time frame?

Because we‘ll be coming to Steam a couple of months later than expected. The truth is that right now our team is growing real fast and we have enough resources to address most of what you were asking for/unhappy about in our forums before we get there. Some might say that since we‘ll be entering Steam Early Access things don‘t have to be perfect - and they would be right. But Early Access or not, we want to get there all shiny - and that we will :)

Now you may think "I was looking forward to playing Ylands on Steam soon and now I get to discover that my favorite devs have promised something they can't deliver. What a shame..."

Come on, it‘s still us, your Team Ylands! Ok, you know what? Since you are our favorite players and because we like to keep our word, we‘ll do our best so that you can play the game on Steam even before it‘s officially released there. How about that? ;)

Seriously though - I don‘t want this to sound like we‘re doing you a favor because it does come at a cost and it‘s only fair to say it as loud and clear as possible. Not only we‘ll let you play the game on Steam; we NEED you to do that... because in the end, we decided to keep only one version alive - the Steam version. The launcher will cease to exist, and playing Ylands outside Steam won‘t be possible.

    steam.png

Hm. Did we want to have Ylands on Steam or Steam in Ylands? Not really sure right now...

    So what happens next?

In the upcoming weeks, we‘ll start sending out Ylands Steam keys to our players (if you bought the game you don‘t need to do anything to get it). As soon as you get one you will be able to play the game on Steam regardless of whether it has been released (yes, that does make you special in a way). You will still be able to play the game outside Steam through our launcher until we terminate it, which will happen in less than two moths (we will provide you with the exact date later). From that moment you will be able to play via Steam only.

We understand that you bought the game outside of Steam. So far we haven‘t met anyone who would have a major problem with moving over to Steam, but it‘s possible there are some among you. We are sorry, but we can‘t fully support the game both on and out of Steam (I won‘t explain into detail why here, but I can discuss that elsewhere if anyone‘s interested). So if you‘re one of those who‘d rather not use Steam at all contact us and you will have the full price of the game refunded.

We will be announcing it on others occasions, and at some point,  you will get to see it mentioned in the game as well. Please feel free to ask about anything that is not clear or needs to be explained in detail... or just tell us what you think, because we want to know.

That's all and so till we meet again - you take care, ylanders, and stay classy!
