    Noted! :)

On doors: Currently they are non symmetrical in any direction, and only open in 1 direction with no option to change this. Also the door isn't on the centre of the grid, depth wise. It's impossible to make any double doors without placing the 2nd door upside down, and in this case it doesn't look bad but doors with windows in them usually look funny upside down :P Also having doors just 1 block wider and maybe 2 higher would be an additional welcome for use as exterior doors or bigger garages! I think I've said this already somewhere else but I couldn't find it with the search so I guess I must've dreamed :P

Thanks for noting everything all the time! :)

Good way to lock a boat away in multiplayer, if the doors can be locked! Else some wondering vagabond could make off with yours jack sparrow style! :P

A harbour would be another way if there was some kind of lockable "sea-gate" or draw-bridge! Could keep all your ships locked in your marina.:)

Especially once it hits Steam... Geez, it will be: Start game, log in to a server, build a raft, steal a ship / kill the owner for his "booty"! It will be a pirate game for sure if no further options are added to manage this factor! Explore mode anyway.

Oh yes! Doors can be locked but in this setup it requires 4 keys. If you delete the bottom doors it looks worse but you can put some more fencing there so people can't swim in and it will only require 2 keys.

I'll be hosting a Explore mode server ASAP to see how this will work out. And that's a clever idea, maybe make a narrow passage where your large ship fits right through and then use the doors to make it just too narrow. Or maybe put a few of those on the bottom of the gate like the poles you see in the street :) Energydoors would make this work even better, then hide the lever behind a door which requires a key :D

it even looks a bit like the old houses in a dutch city.. :D

like it. can someone dive underneat it, or do the pierfoundations block this?

also, that is a huge door.. devs, i'd like a porteculis or drawbridge styled huge-door too..

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! You can dive under the foundations when you are inside but you can't dive under the doors, I've placed the same metal bars as in the windows. Also keeps the sharks out :) The doors are stacked on top of eachother and the right ones are upside down to get the rotation and alignment right. And indeed we could do with some larger size doors :D

You Dutch certainly take your ships seriously! :P

Ofcourse we do! And therefore I can't just leave my boats outside, so I decided to make a small boat pen to test the whole concept.

What's better to do when you come back from some trading, fishing or exploring then docking your boat ofcourse :)

    Ylands_170530_075641.thumb.png.7b7f6bdea75853a5bee68dcbc1f7dea1.png

I've placed a seagull totem over the main boat door. Hope they help me discover some new places ;)

Doors open, ready to dock! Below the doors is a net to keep sharks out.

And it's in! It's a really tight fit height wise, in fact the top of the mast even clips the doorway.

Enough of the fancy night pictures, let's have a look by daylight:

As you can see it's a fairly small and easy construction and shouldn't be too hard to build in multiplayer :)

I sailed in one direction, not following any birds for about 5 - 10 minutes, then realised I had no map and was screwed! Spent 30 min sailing around like a lost, confused person, then came to the conclusion that if you don't follow a bird, all you're going to find is ocean! Are the islands all clumped together or what? Seemed like I had sailed away from the clump and had reached a vast empty-land without islands or any birds in sight!

Will have another go with a map!

I'm curious to see how the bottom of the ocean looks after you go "off the map". Would we still be able to find stuff there and dig it up? Dig up massive amounts of sand just to create more islands?

    Excellent work!

I'm going to crib the temporary dock idea! ;)

I too like to put a torch on the front of the small boat but it did bob around a lot and make it tricky. Not any more, thanks! :)

Be sure to put the middle of the boat on the middle of ONE of the beams, not right in between two of them, because it will tip over and fall straight in the water. Alternatively you can use panels or straight beams instead :)  I tried to make it more realistic looking but by trying they never rested 100% flat unfortunately.

very neat! glad you shared them.

what do you use as powersource on the Kamenka?

There's a small ylandium generator in the front at the moment. If necessary I could place a windmill in between the sails without it looking too odd :)

  7. Heya! As soon as the dedicated server's are fixed I will try to set up a 24/7 server where you can hop in and play :) I'll make a post on the forums with the info when it's there.

  8. Thanks for the responses guys :D Besides the occasional accidental annihilation of the entire shiphulls (I now make backups every 5 minutes) it wasn't that much work. Especially the first ship has been designed so that it's really easy and quick to build more of them, also material wise :)

  9. Hello everyone!

I'll post some of my creations, so far they have mainly been ships.

First off is my modular ship design. By raising the deck 3 blocks I can use the outboard walkways for storage, while making the construction look very low and sleek. The ship is divided in certain parts which can be chosen for it's intended purpose. For example instead of the rear 4 cargoholds you could have a larger backside with more sleeping rooms to transport more passengers instead of cargo. The design also features an advanced cargo locking system, so you only need 1 key to lock off all the containers and can lock/unlock them all in one click. See the pictures on how this works! ,

This ship is the first of this series, I called it Kamenka (guess how the 2nd will be named :D). It currently isn't 100% finished, I am waiting for a fix for placing doors on ships and it needs a little bit more decoration. Also I haven't found out if there is any difference in sailing speed, if I find a quicker sail plan I will probably switch to that.

The single key cargo system. All the chests will be covered by energy doors, all connected with END gates to a small hatch in the front of the ship. In this hatch is also the anchor lever. The hatch will be shut by a normal locked door with a key.

The steering cabin is in the center of the ship. It gives good 360 degree vision. Below the cabin is a lot of wiring for all the lighting onboard. In the cabin are 2 levers, one for the cabin lighting and one for the light on the front of the ship. The cabin still needs an exterior door and doors to the sleeping room and the living compartment!

    Ylands_170529_020743.thumb.png.bbbcc6e756d5e3907195cd7ac110ad52.pngYlands_170529_020750.thumb.png.8c6b444013cbdc7186642d9d7a5d64e2.png

Towards the back of the cabin is the sleeping room. There's a double bed, a light and a few drawers.

    Ylands_170529_020802.thumb.png.08d64f0e22e58f6584889f483c09e882.pngYlands_170529_020811.thumb.png.0a7be1393c73494cc1583711973b6324.png

Front from the cabin is the living compartment and a small bathroom. The living room features tables, chairs, a stove, some storage space for enough food and a light as well.

I also tried to make the smaller boat more useful. I've added 2 chests and a torch into the design, it now has got 18 slots for storage which makes it far more useful, especially considering it won't beach as easy as a larger ship. It's still very plain and functional, I haven't figured how to decorate it yet.

    Ylands_170529_020946.thumb.png.bda2d63ffcc59bee73f71747b3bca9a1.png

Because there is no anchor and it's difficult to get the boxes right I've tried to come up with a way to make it easy to build such ships in survival. The oriental logs are free placed on short stubs for alignment. When the boat is ready all you have to do is pick up the logs and it will fall into the water :) Then you can reattach the logs and make another one!

The last one actually isn't made by me, my girlfriend made this with just a little help ;) Also this ship has been made a few patches ago since we were able to place doors on ships back then. Also there is no anchor yet :)

Upstairs is a large bedroom with a nice view, downstairs a kitchen with a small outdoors sitting area on the back.

    Thanks for taking a look!

  10. I've hosted a dedicated server on a VPS. When connecting to it (from the same account) It keeps hanging on Recalling buildings 100%, both when I use a new map or a map I already played on singleplayer. The map type is "Explore", if I use any of the premade other maps the server won't even show up in the serverlist somehow.

    I'm running Windows Server 2012 R2.

Attached are both output logs from the server and client side

EDIT: Tried the "Create" map, it did show in the list like the explore maps do but it didn't get anywhere past "Recalling buildings" either.

I've tried to test the dedicated server from my own machine as well, but when I launch the game it will stay black but the sound will play.

  11. Hello,

I'm not really happy with the way looking around with ALT works at the moment. As soon as you release the button you suddenly point in the direction where you were looking instead of the direction you are walking, as in most games. This is most annoying when you are being chased by bears/wolves, look over your shoulder and then suddenly run towards them :P  Needless to say this has caused some trouble :D

  12. Is there a complete item ID list somewhere? I stumbled on some items which I couldn't find in the creator cube list, and since they got your faces on them I thought you could shed a light on where to find them? ;)

  13. I've confirmed my findings that boats seem to float at a certain height/altitude instead of on water. I went to the funfair and place multiple boats and rafts in the lake next to the dam and all boats immediately sank to the bottom as if there was no water there.

Also in the edit I've added another example. Before I made the hole in the background the part in the foreground was all covered by water. Now it's not and the edges of the ocean are weird.

  14. I think beaching could be a risk/danger which is normal to sailing a boat. Maybe the map could show water depths or something similar so we can navigate through shallow water? Also, have you tried simply digging the sand away below the boat?

  15. I'll call it "moving water": when you dig a canal to your island or you explode a barrel on the ocean surface, the water will be slightly lower and behave different. At the coast it will be a bit higher than the land with weird edges, the water level is lower which means that the rafts and tiny boats float ABOVE the water (magic :D) and you can clearly see the line between the normal ocean water and the new water. In the 2nd picture you can see the coastline in the background also act weird.

  16. I've been trying a few things in creative, but for some reason I can't interact with for example the large dressoir or the large iron table. It has no hitbox so I can walk through it and I also can't use the annihilator on it, it will just annihilate the block behind it. The items are placed on a ship hyll if this matters. Other smaller drawers and chairs work perfectly fine.

  17. I have no idea how the growing currently works, maybe it works like on minecraft where growth etc. only happens if the region is actually loaded in by a player? You being away ofcourse prevented from anything from happening in that region and therefor stopping the growing? Maybe one of the devs can clarify :)
