Items in chest disappear after broke the chest

so i usually build my chest floating on the sky. sometime i accidentally swing the hammer on it (i alway have hammer on my hand cuz i build alot inside my barrier) and sometime all the items inside the chest drop through my floor to the sea floor. sometime it just disappear cannot find them anywhere. i did a test that i put a chest in side the floating box (which is had the 2 tesla towers on top) and put something in there. then i break the chest and cannot find anything underneath. can you guys tell me where did my items went or they just disappear. thank you

I may believe that destroying any box will also destroy any contents that may lay within it
