well, i'd like to suggest 4 pretty common things first (in the order of importance, i guess):
relay, for more fun electronics,
any kind of getting information from the world without direct interaction (so, sensor): either pressure button or laser emitter+receiver,
some kind of signal delay item, maybe even with delay setting,
anything moving, like elevator or more doors
i understand that moving things will cause even more lag, which is not something people want, but making some automatic doors and light would be hella great

so i've made 4 adders connected one after another to make a 4 bit adder (calculates sum of 2 numbers in a range from 0 to 15, giving result from 0 to 30)
this one shows 3+7=10, 3 is 0011 on the lower left part and 7 is 0111 in the lower middle, result is outputted at the right part and shows 01010
this one shows 1+11=12 (11 is hard to see due to lighting, but levers show that it's 1101)
so, the most annoying part of this is that you have to use 4 splitters for each adder, which is, as you can see, almost half of it, also size is not changeable and connecting is awkward with such small distances
trying to figure how to make 7-segment display now (or rather 13-pixel) for better output, my prediction is that i'll need more room for that than for adder itself

i have reproduced map eating just for science after i ate the first one, i was on someone else's server (stout crusher's), which is why i suspect lag to play main role
also i can tell you that i've successfully transported horses across ylands (2 horses with buddy), it just has minor issues i've mentioned

how to eat your map:
go to multiplayer (guess lag was the key there)
have map on your quick bar
equip food
quickly switch to map and open it via left-clicking
you just have ate your map and all the information it held
other whines: looking through ground is still in game (very helpful for searching caves though) [you just need not flat surface with bumps at head lvl]
player's position in multiplayer is the most annoying thing: you aren't actually where game shows you are, losing ships (and dying to sharks) because you dared to move is not fun
items disappear for player (and not the world) when dropped or placed (either lantern or bricks) and you can't see them or pick it back, similar happens to fallen trees: it this case you see tree, but can't chop and lag when you step on it
transporting horses on ship sometimes makes it not move at all or launches ship fly in the sky, sometimes it drowns all the way to the bottom first, looks epic though, but horses are stuck at bottom after this [though they could swim with you]

those are nice features you mentioned, please take a look at unplayable lags and other complains sometime as well
