They've made it a bit more difficult to find random encounters, but they're still there. You don't have to see the same hundred encounters on every map, which makes exploring seem more authentic. In fact, I found a few maps with no information and I was rather pleased with them. I feel like we're on a hunt for Easter eggs now. If you find something, even an encounter that doesn't yield great loot, it is worth all the searching.
