ooh what fun !!! got a new player from Brasil... was reluctant to be friendly ..obviously a victim of pvp mp games. This was not helped by another who tried to grief and tried to hit her with a shovel.. when they say 'sup? or call you bro or use excessive emotes then you know their age means that puberty has yet to come knocking on their door. Despite being warned twice for trying to hit another player . he tried to kill an offline player and ended up receiving 2 bullets in the a$$ ...we both shot him at the same time. The idiot came back and tried to use a shovel to dig into buildings.. and a hammer to break chests and windows .. inside a PB protected area. He then begged for me to let him have a shot with my gun hahahah --- i am not as stupid as him! After he got bored at not being able to grief .. he went offline, so we didn't kill him ...just dug under him so he sank into the depths, ..put a stone panel over the top and buried him, ( after a few solemn words like " bye bye sucker!" ) This was obviously a kid using dad's computer while dad was away Made an eventful change for the quiet time .. his BI no. started Fdb19a ..and was obviously just there to grief.... so if he hits your server ... you know what to expect. ( he asked us if we played fortnite... that says a lot! )

still on NA 15 its very stable .. Occasionally we get the phantom trees, but twice a day there seems to be a reset ... morning and evening my times and things flow easily afterwards. I noticing the tree issue seems to occur when the weather changes to rain... ? So far so good ...we have had 6 active players on at one time and no lag apparent my end. Lets hope we last until 0.9....

also, for new arrivals ... there are starter packs in baskets outside the office. Each basket has the same contents .. flint lighter, hammer chisel, spade Lantern, knife, axe and saw. Interesting to see how griefers will react to that and BB's store looks great!

Well the griefeing was more of an inconvenience than a disaster....i was reorganizing .. and i think they mad it easier! They killed several offline unarmed people standing around.... big brave griefer hahaha epitome of heroism. They stole all the welcome food from the food chest ( 80 fish, 20 meat 40 roasted veg/fruit.)... and replaced it with rubbish like grass stones bark etc They emptied the bulk stone and marble chests and scattered the contents through all the other unlocked chests And the dumped rubbish around ... ie flowers bark resin ...and things they took of the corpses they killed. They emptied several tool chests and replaced them with stone weapons...what they couldn't carry they scattered All the flint lighters, and starter stuff was taken ..probably dumped somewhere obscure But he good side of it was we had 6 on line at the same time ... including handsofthesly who is setting up a bakery, If you are a forum visitor , identify yourself and be welcomed Theres 2 green boxes with some clothing to hide your whitey tights

When caving/exploring its a good idea to take minimal equipment with you. One good idea is to include a crystal in your inventory ..so when you lose a fight with a mutant whatever, the glowing crystal helps you locate where you died ---. Also works on the surface and at night! Its a survival game... an unlike real life, here when you mess up you can come back and rebuild and learn...

What we learned form creating help bases near spawn areas: Firstly unless you know someone for a long time in this game, trust no stranger. We had one who slaughtered me whilst i was unarmed and restocking the base. Earlier we helped him get started and he was so friendly.... he discovered later i am a good shot with a revolver, hitting him in mid air as he tried to leap into a getaway raft...( it had walls to supposedly protect him). The fool came back with a different name but gave himself away when he ran straight to where his body fell and dived under the water to recover the stuff he had stolen ----he was an easy target under water...like shooting fish in a pond Now what we learned: record the first 5 letters/numbers of a new arrivals BI account ( hit enter, type /who) ..that way you can recognize the good, the bad and the ugly. Often griefers respawn and use a different name like this guy tried 3 times but his BI account no. was the same (started with d6c2e). The workstations needed to help new arrivals start are spinning, weaving, tanning, smelting, a forge and a stove. Keep the higher tech stations under lock and key in a secure area. We had one griefer use our locksmith station to craft keys and padlocks and then lock all the workstations and storage containers. As they were inside a protection barrier, we could deconstruct and rebuild them, but it sure wasted time. If a container can be locked, make keys for it to stop griefers locking it on you. Same with doors! ..and ship helms! Put out only a token number of tools for new comers to use. We put out flint lighters, rope, and some axes hammers chisels saws shovels and spades. The bulk stocks are kept in locked in chests, because some griefers take everything/anything they can, whether they need them or not, emptying every unlocked container ..and then dump the surplus offshore or in a mine pit and bury them. We are now progressively placing lanterns behind glass barriers to stop thieving. All items that can be used as weapons are collected and locked away...stone maces etc dropped are destroyed. Make a secure place where you can lock yourself away. Make sure this area has two lockable doorways, the main obvious one, and another at the rear partly screened by trees etc. This is because if you are attacked and killed, you have a better chance of sneaking in the back door and re-arming while the greifer sorts through your loot. Have inside your safe area a back up supply of weaponry so you can do battle if needed to recover items. The a'hole that slaughtered me was surprised while he was stealing my armor off my corpse when i popped out from a side entry and plastered him with my back-up revolver. Fortunately he had not located the bullets for my main gun he had stolen from my loot. If you have to leave things in unlocked areas/containers , make sure its items that you can afford to lose. Believe me, one even stole the flags off the rear of my ship! But the up side of all this is we do get good people who appreciate the help, and stay and contribute. BB is now testing the construction of "bunk house" style lockable rooms for new arrivals to use until they can make their base/home secure. Hopefully this will stop the pvp minded idiots who arrive and slaughter innocent people who haven't had time to get their base secure. And a warning.. enforce the no standing around offline for ages rule. Build your welcome area with no flooring. that way when you get a group of "passive griefers" arrive en masse and fill the area with lifeless bodies staring into the distance, after a week of inactivity assume they only there for the beer...(which you have already drunk) .. so you can then undermine them with a spade..and bury them.

I do not use mic for two reasons: 1) I live "out in the sticks" connected to the internet by knotted wet string and speed /capacity determined by the the amount of caffeine we can pump into carrier pigeons. Aussie internet speeds and capacity leave a lot to be desired...its either video or sound, both at the same time is unreliable. 2) My house sounds like a zoo when feeding time is delayed. Added to the fact the TV runs 24/7 and we have neighbors with rather loud dogs and voices , especially after drinking..( the Neighbors, not the dogs..) Text is sufficient. So far our group is in two genres.. there's those that build and create and those that run around in caves tempting death! Be prepared to trip over tombstones.... or mount rescue missions when sailors lose their ships or themselves But is all fun!

I was helping this guy cut trees when he turned and belted me with his axe... i initially assumed it was accidental and moved quickly away , but he ran after me and hit me gain. Reluctantly i pulled out a sabre and terminated him... it surprised him as he was supposedly attacking someone unarmed He respawned within seconds and returned for his loot ..but became subdued as i stood nearby with a drawn revolver aimed at him and telling him to behave.. and this was not a pvp area... he complied The other guy we had had cleaned out all our supplies...we had stacks of spades shovels etc and building materials for newcomers to use... he took the lot...and stole a boat... using an exploit to defeat the locks ( Ane knows of this exploit and has advised me they are working on it). This guy made off with the boat loaded with all his stolen items but got greedy, stopping to investigate a group of corpses with scattered loot.. when he saw me he ran back to the stolen boat, but i had already alerted it s owner who visited him via a prop pack and " terminated" him. He then re-spawned under a different name but i had recorded the first 5 digits of his BI account No. so although he acted dumb and played possum , pretending he was off line .. we knew who he was! The Third guy was just a nuisance... as we had depleted stocks he couldn't steal anything other than lanterns and emptied all the food we had ( 80 units of fish! ) he also raided the fisherman's hut and took anything not nailed down.. and i discovered all our hammers were gone .. and then noticed padlocks on all our workstations! But that was no big deal ..a quickly crafted stone hammer solved the issue as all the stations were inside my PB and easily deconstructed and re built .. But all is not bad.. We have had 3 new players arrive, all looking for a not combative pve group, and the community is starting to grow. We assist them to build, offer tips and show them shortcuts. As they settle they respond by returning with supplies and such to restock the base. With the 0.9 enhancements on the horizon... the game is proving enjoyable Shame about the imbeciles though.... as they say " lock up your daughters" .. BB's idea of a bunk house where new players can hide in safety when offline until they build a base is a grand idea. NA 15 welcomes friendly people ... and we would not complain if you arrived to help and participate

@stlnegril9.... The NA15 server has been pretty stable so far, but we do get the occasional time out or reset. Looks like you tried to join at one of those "off" times. Do drop in and look around... there's 2 new players already who have joined in...one is building and the other a total newcomer is watching and learning. If you do arrive, there's tools, some clothing, and workstations you can use to start out, and later we might put in a "store" of limited ores etc to help new arrivals start crafting their own stuff. We do have about 5 "offline" bodies standing around ...hopefully they will awaken and join in ...if not we will plant flowers around them

The welcome base take the "fun" out of being a griefer...everything you need is there in plentiful quantity to help you start out. There are no weapons, just tools and resources. We do have defensive weapons, ie sabre, revolver, war axe and crossbows...but we never use them except to remove land /air sharks. The only potential troublemaker failed in an attempt to be a panthers pet. We have had two visitors arrive, first time mp players, and they became readily enthused with what they saw and the help they got. They were surprised that there was no one to attack or harass them, just help. For a demonstration of community co operation we all crafted different items and constructed " A Trout and Co" fisherman's hut. We are now thinking of doing a efficiency redesign of the crafting stations , and adding a first aid booth, with aloe Vera poultices and bandages, acai berries for health and arctic willow and bearberries for other medicines and health uses.. Check out A trout's hut .. hes obviously a better fisherman than someone i know in RL

The raft has been found! Yay! Yosef the wanna be pirate came ashore, parked the raft, and decided to camp inland from the shoreline so it would be harder to find him. Sadly for him, his campfire must have gone out in the rain overnight , and while he slept blissfully, one of our resident panthers added his protein to their diet. Justice or Karma... you decide. BB's stuff in her baskets has been recovered and returned to her.

How about it that we have to use a key to start the protection barrier.... and as the game progresses you need a locksmith station to craft a special key from iron gold and copper that allows you to turn off your barrier, then relocate it...and when restarting it the key is "consumed" By requiring gold copper and iron and a locksmith station, this key with this ability would only be possible later in advancement into the game and be a one off. Worth considering?

Protection barrier transportability.

Point taken ...it has to be something that at a certain advancement in crafting it becomes available... and one off... -
How long does your server last in Multiplayer?
kimbuck replied to Indian Chief's topic in General Discussion
@Mitch Treader -- The bit about ships is interesting. ----- On NA15 we had no problems until ships were built . Everything was running smoothly ( just the occasional phantom tree) until i put down my ship hull and fitted on it the helm and some storage chests. After a trip back into the center of the island to collect more logs, i returned to the old invisible ship syndrome ..but that's not all ...some of the tables and benches on the shore adjacent to the hull were also invisible, yet the objects placed on them were... just "floating in space". Did not bother with screenshots etc as its a known issue and it been reported multiple times.. and also the number of "phantom" cut down trees increased. Of course the universal fix of logging out and rejoining worked... -

when BB got dumped out, we all were "frozen" in limbo.. online showed none....yet mp listing showed 4 on line. After staring at a dark starry screen only option was to open taskbar and close ylands. After 3 false starts , got in. but everyone else had given. up. I am predicting in another couple of days we need to move to another server ...until it too breaks.. -
..true , but most pirates have a wooden leg,... not a solid wooden head ..and a real captain would have realized that a sailing ship needs sails. Perhaps he was auditioning for the role of parrot?

We had our first misfit visit NA15 today... arrived with a "hello world" and immediately ran and jumped into someones raft and paddled offshore... then saw me and stated he only had just acquired the game and did i have any tips. For a first timer he knew how to use a raft... then he spotted a ship under construction and paddled to it and tried top steal it... well you could raise the anchor and grab the helm, but you won't go far with no sails etc...as he found out. He had obviously played the game before... so he climbed aboard his stolen raft and paddled off ... into a typical ylands storm... Three minutes later, after he had paddled out of view, he went offline. Typical of the griefers who arrive, steal boats and abandon them offshore out of the owners view. Anyway , no big deal for our team. Yosef, you are the loser. Did a shark get you? or have you moved onto another server now to repeat your act of "cleverness?" If others would like to visit NA15, check out the Foobar team courtesy base, ... yes - there are things you can steal, etc. but if you come to play the game and not act like an infantile imbecile, you can see how a co-operative community works. ..and what they can do in a short time working together We hope others join in mimicking this co-operative activity on other servers.. When we finish the boat under construction we will look to rescue Yosef drifting on his stolen raft... We will carry spare aloe Vera bandages ... for the sharks!

NA 15 now has an office.... sponsored by the foobar team. its open annually 31 June from noon until midday...

Here is how the NA 15 outpost turned out.
-
Today the Foobar team visited NA 15 , and played around constructing a help outpost next to the spawn area.. and we had fun. Theres no pics just yet, we are waiting for the flora to establish itself so it will look more photogenic. But what was encouraging was the arrival of a new player who was so impressed at not being set upon and slaughtered by griefers, he actually brought things back to enhance the area Earlier we visited another server but it was a waste of time . A griefer had enclosed the spawn area in a thicket of trees as a fence and set up his PB ..and the enclosure was littered with corpses ..and a lot of them! But it was all in vain..although no one could escape the wall of trees etc, all we did was press enter, then slash unstuck 0 ..and Bingo! ... transported to a nearby beach away form the griefers meddling So peeps, if you ever get stuck in a griefers thing on spawn ..remember that.. press enter... type slash... unstuck 0 ...and all his efforts are wasted
-
One of the advantages of co-operation. We have 3 of the Foobar team construct bases in close proximity. We therefore do not have to strip an island of resources... just use what each needs and share the rest with the others. We also share workstations and have access to each others work areas...so we don't need multiple locksmiths, chemistry, energy stations etc As you can see .. the bases are both practical and decorative .. and will be more so as we now have a paint gun to share. Our protection barriers are almost adjacent so its hard for a griefer to dig in or steal.. I wonder where will we send the electricity bill ..as shown in last screenshot...perhaps BI might pay it?
-
So this means ...all our work, and the help outposts will become digital history after the next update end may. Not very encouraging to put a lot of effort into creating something and then its gone ---, but then a new game/start overcomes the lag and instability of a server after a week...
-
That.s a great base there on spawn, BB... and very helpful and considerate of the player that has made it available there. As you are aware, I have left some additional items there to "help" ...and i don't mean dumping stuff on the ground. Later today after some rl work i am going to look for another island to put a base/outpost on, but first visit one of the others where there's abundant resources to help gather materials to set it up. For the record, we are on server NA 36 - until it becomes unplayable. - its already showing signs of lag and other hiccups.
