@Baz Foobar Thank you for the offer, if you would be willing to upload the save file to some online storage service (e.g. OneDrive, Google Disk) and sent me the link via a PM, I'd like to have a look at that - might be helpful. Also, if you have some more logs for 114 disconnects of your players I would be very interested in those as well. :)

Thanks Filip for the update!  I have PM'd you the link to the server save file for the approximate time in which the event occurred.

Since then, I removed some compositions that were carried over from the old version.  Performance has marginally increased but I understand BB Cakes still encountered further 114 disconnects overnight.  Not sure if she had saved logs for that, but I'll try to provide as we encounter them.  If you want to take a look at one of the compositions that may have been causing us problems, it's Bartolomew's white/gold ship off the coast of the spawn island perhaps towards the southeast corner of that island.  You can't miss it, it's a giant beast of a monstrosity with all kinds of stuff on it (which probably created some kind of conflict for the game engine).

  2. The propeller pack is full of glitch.  If you die with it equipped, it can cause problems where you can't reincarnate, or you walk around as a ghost, or you glitch in place constantly spinning or shaking.  If you do make it back in alive, somehow the prop pack refuses to come off your back, but it no longer allows you to fly... the list goes on. I recommend avoiding the prop pack for now, along with the cannon which also gets bugged and becomes irremovable.

    Another  day,  another  experience:P

Rather than risk my  big ship, and myself, i crafted a tiny  boat and went on a cruise close to shore around my   Yland.  was in the home  stretch and experiencing lag  spikes... then  froze ...  obviously  someone was logging onto  the server!   a  quick  check of  whose online  initially  showed  no one  ( !   ? ) then  confirmed another  arrival.    I closed the   menu and waited ...after 20 seconds everything   un-froze... but then my  ship started sailing in circles .. the  spinning  horse   syndrome, but  slower ..and   nothing i could  do  would  stop it!  I selected  reverse  and that stopped it  but  then i was  reversing out to sea ..  selected   w  to  move  forward and  the  spinning resumed .. so  waited until stern was  pointed to shore  and   reversed  ( s  key)...  and managed to   beach   the craft.  I hopped out    onto  dry land and   re  joined..   All seemed  well,   so i  tried to get back in the craft...    and the  spinning  resumed!

So i beached it again and  abandoned it.   All the time   i got  lag  spikes   and freezes..and a check of  whose was online  alternated   between  none  and   2  of us.

Went back to base ...in fits and  starts  with  intermittent  freezing..   locked doors and sat  down and   moped...     having  real life breakfast now to console myself.  I do  so much want to explore... but  is it  worth the  risk at present?O.o

drowning at sea  or  freezing  in mid  defense facing a predator ...   not  quite  what i  like about the  game at present...  especially as it not as a result  of  my actions...

    wheres  my  coffee....  B|

@Aleš Ulm / Devs - if you're interested in the server logs for this event, here's what I've got.  I can provide the server game file as well, just let me know how to get it to you - it's 38mb.

    log.txt

    log_clean.txt

Thanks for your report, guys - we'll look into it and I'll let you know as soon as we know something!

Any luck finding anything?  If it helps, I can provide the server save file to you.  It's currently at 38 mb.

  5. Back when I played on other servers, I would leave it alone unless I kept coming back to it later and it was clear the previous owner had moved on and wasn't coming back.  Then I'd look through it to see if there was anything I needed, and then I'd leave the rest for anyone else.

So I guess my response is all of the above, depending on timing :)

I reset my active server 7 times a day to get people in due to lag.

I have to wipe the server daily.

I've been resetting at least 3 times a day so far.  I have not wiped since the 0.7 release though.  Players have made significant builds that I'd hate to lose, and I'm beginning to wonder if importing compositions from previous maps has added fuel to the fire of performance degradation...

Wow. Ok. So keep anything important in personal inventory?

Not sure yet - will try different things this weekend to see what works and what causes the server to have a bad day.  Once I know more I'll advise of what our next steps will be and give everyone time to prepare accordingly.  For now, assume business as usual (assuming you can even play through the current issues).

  8. I agree, MP since the 0.7 update has been very frustrating.  I'm going to set up a parallel server this weekend to do some experiments to try and find out what eventually causes performance degradation to go bad.  The server started out fine but at some point within the last couple of days, it's become almost unplayable.  I'm not sure if it's a result of players exploring the map, building out their structures, creating objects, or what.  I know it's not due to bodies lying around because I've been cleaning that up every couple of days (will be doing it again today with all the recent death at sea from network layer disconnects).

Note to anyone playing on the Foobar server - I keep backups of the gamefile around for a week so if you ever loose something, let me know on our Discord server or on here and I'll do my best to get you straightened out either immediately in-game, or by the next server maintenance with some editor work for more complicated restores.  Also to the same audience - due to this terrible playability situation we're in currently, we may have to restart the map from scratch again.  And this time, I'm reluctant to bring compositions over in case that's contributing to the problem.

I had  3 such restarts  in 90  mins... kinda  frustrating  as the game  gets  to  loading  buildings  100% and  sits there for about  4   minutes  before it  proceeds..O.o

4 minutes?!  My wife waited 10 minutes last night to get in at the 100% status, and the server is one hop away from her computer on gigabit ethernet :)

  10. Unless your server admin performs a regular cleanup, the only other solution I've found is to dig a hole beneath them and pile dirt on top.  Alternatively, do what Kimbuck suggested and build your house above water or a pit, as people gather in your house and become unwanted guests, drop the floor underneath them to eject them into the water/pit below.  Works for dead or the living :)

Today i was able to connect, it's a bit random, i don't know what the cause is. Maybe the amount of people or a feature that player use.

Also, everytime a player connect to the server, we all freeze during 2 sec

That happens in every MP server.  Depending on the server, it may even take a lot longer than 2 seconds where everybody is frozen in place.

I have built an explore specific  ship, but  afraid to put to sea lest i get dumped and drowned and lose it   due to that network error. I saw a craft approaching my base ..it never arrived...  there was a network error  and  when i returned later, ( eventually) the craft was gone. I guess there's an avatar  corpse on the bottom of the ocean out there! In the last  hour  i have had  3 of these errors...:|

As it is, i am stuck on this   Yland...   i don't want to risk   all my hard work on the ship.

    :(

Was it from around 11PM last night (GMT-5) on my server?  If so, the approaching craft might've been the very one described in the start of this thread.  BB's ship and corpse is just west of your property along the coast and these errors hit around that time.

I'd like an option on if the power line is visible or not. That way if you want to make power lines that show the power you can or hide it if you don't want green lines all over your builds. Having a choice is nice :)

This would satisfy my requirement as well and make it less of a burden on the game engine to determine visibility.  Just let the builder dictate it!

    Hi!

i'm running an dedicated ylands server, has been running for a month or so, and as from today (19/02) i can't join it myself?
    Played yesterday, but not today.

I can't find it in multiplayer, and in continue i see it as online, but when i try to join, it only says "Establishing connection" but nothing happens

    Help, someone? :)

Did you update the server to the most recent patch as of yesterday?

  15. I also don't like seeing them all over the place, even though they're less visible than before, but I also don't want to see electric poles that don't show the "wires" going from one pole to another.

Perhaps a compromise can be made - if the "wire" is along a physical object, don't show it without the linker.  If the "wire" is crossing from one node to another over air or water, show the faint wire without the linker and the highly visible wire with the linker.  This way, building structures with wiring won't show green lines going from node to node, but nodes in the open going through air/water will show something there.

Or something along those lines anyway, doesn't have to be that exactly, but some effort to clean up our structures without having to use extra layers of blocks to hide the "wires".  That would be more realistic, but given the large granular size of a basic building block, it wouldn't be feasible.

  16. I've got a building that I'm trying to transfer from one map to another and I've selected all of the objects that make up the structure and then saved it as a composition.  I made sure that every object was selected and I confirmed that everything was a part of it by deleting it and seeing nothing left over.

I then went into a new map and selected the composition for placement.  Placing it in the world brought it over but then I noticed a corner of the structure was missing completely.  No matter how many times or different ways I've tried to do it, it ends up missing that corner.  Anyone know what's going on or have some suggestions on how to work around this?

Hosting my own server now and no crashes/issues.  Seems like a lot of the dedicated server hosts (g-portal and citadel) aren't very good at Ylands yet.

I host my own servers but I have used g-portal in the past and haven't had any issues with them.  Can't speak for any other providers, but honestly at this point given the state of the game's development especially as it relates to MP, I can't recommend anyone spend money on commercial hosting for this yet.

So I rented a server from citadel, and after 10 minutes it froze/crash and had to be restarted.  We lost all progress. Is this a known issue ?

Did you have "SessionDataType" : "BuiltIn" and "SessionData" : "Explore" set in your json file?  I thought 0.7 fixed it so it doesn't recreate a new world if an existing save file is found, but maybe that's not the case here and your json settings forced it to regenerate anyway.

For future reference, once you have a generated map, change SessionDataType from BuiltIn to "YlandFile" and SessionData to "<filename of save game>".

    Example:

        "SessionDataType": "YlandFile",
        "SessionData": "SessionSave.ylandsgame",
