Right now it's up to 10 players. The size depends on the game you're playing - for example the Explore mode has 12-15 ylands per map. Also, since it's procedurally generated, the ylands are always different.

In the Create mode and in the Editor you can actually choose what kind of yland you want to play on (arctic, tropical etc.) and its size and yland count.
