  1. Hey there, Ylanders!

We know you like hearing about what's coming to the next update and that you also like to take peeks into the game dev process and the behind-the-scenes of the Ylands HQ. This week's Dev diary is going to combine both! Let's dive right in!

The spirit of Ylands is largely based on community and the feedback from our players, which is why we collect feedback and suggestions from our players across platforms and regularly review it and keep it in mind when developing new features and when improving new ones. One such feedback we have been receiving is talking about not being able to see your friends on the map. This highly requested feature is coming to 1.9, as you probably know from this Dev Diary.

We were very excited to let our players know that this feature that they've been asking for is finally coming to the game. But in reading the feedback on the announcement, we found out that we didn't think about the fact that some of our players play Hide & Seek because they can't see each other on the map. Oversight on our part, but thanks to our players, who talk to us, we found out.

    (two of the feedback instances)

Long story short, we're implementing a toggle option for the friend marker feature so that you can continue playing Hide & Seek without having the fun spoiled (smile)

While this might seem like a minor thing to some, for those few players that enjoy playing the game in a specific way will it would be taking away a part of that fun. And that's something we don't want to do.

Well, that's it for this week and we will be back with more info next week!

    Stay Classy, Ylanders!

  2. Hey there, Ylanders!

As you probably know, the next update coming to Ylands will be all about adventures on and below the sea. And as such, it would not be complete without additions and edits to how ships work.

Any proud captain would know how important a ship's name is. The name of a ship can be an indication of what its adventures on the sea are going to be a like and elevates it from an anonymous vesel to a personalized creation. So starting next update, you'll be able to give names to your ships!

Now that you've built your own ship, named it and set sail for the first time, you should really take care of it! Be careful about sailing in bad weather, because if you get caught in a storm, your ship will get damaged. At the same time, if you steer your ship to shallow waters, the edge of an yland or another ship, your ship will take damage and you will have to fix it up if you wish to continue on your journey without worries.

Fixing a ship is a matter of skill and resources. You will need a special tool to repair your ship and also specific materials to patch up the holes that your ship had sustained. In order to avoid damaging your ship and to help you be a better informed captain, you will be able to monitor the ship's HP, the water depth below, the current speed and much more using special ship devices.

This is just a quick look into what ships will be like in the upcoming update! Speaking of naming things, what do you think the 1.9 update will be named? Let us know what you think and what your tips are and until next time...

    Stay classy, Ylanders!

Ok, it took me a min since I had to find clay because everything was locked inside my house :D I was able to make a demo hammer and it did let me break a door. After doing that I thought I might  be able to unlock one of the other doors, but still no luck. I built a new door and tried to use 2 different blank keys to lock it, but it gave me the same message "Key does not match the lock". The door remains unlocked as it is new, and I can open and close it. I also tried opening the doors from inside the house. Could it be that there are too many doors? (7 or 8 doors, and 3 safes) I also removed the old barrier using the demo hammer, but still unable to lock or unlock. If you would like to tell me how to go about acquiring the game logs once I attempt using a key or 2, then I would be happy to provide them. I just hope I don't end up needing to move my base, as it's a lot of stuff, gathered through much adventuring :)  Thank you for the continued help and timely responses.

    Hey!

We need both output_log.txt and output_log_clean.txt
and you can find them here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ylands\Ylands_Data :)

Send them over and we'll have a look :)

will it go through some proccess to make it low poly? I would imagine a high res image would look very out of place in ylands...

EDIT: I guess this isn't really best way to ask my question as you have already kind of answered it. More what I'm wondering is what kind of process it will go though to be adapted.

That will depend on the type of art that will be selected 😊

  5. It can be digital, it can be hand drawn and then you take a picture of it :) We will need to make some alterations to fit the aesthetic but we still want it to be your art!

We will simply take the artwork and turn it into a painting asset in the game such as these:

  6. Hey there, Ylanders!

Ever wanted to have your very own painting become an asset in the game? Well, this is your opportunity!

The Ylands team will pick one piece of art and turn it into a painting, which other Ylanders will be able to find in the world of Ylands!

So what do you need to do to take part?

    1. Have an artwork ready. It can be a drawing, a painting, a sketch, anything! Be mindful of copyright issues and whether the motive is appropriate.
    2. Save it as a PNG or JPEG file, rename it to YourYlandsNickname.png or .jpg (so FAAIA.png for instance)
    3. Drop it off here: https://cloud.bistudio.com/index.php/s/kpHAEmyqXiR0UrI using the password ylands
    4. Do so before the end of the month. Last entry can be made at Jan 31, 23:59 CET.
    5. Wait for us to announce our favorite one!

We will also award coyns to our favorites!

    Go get artsy, Ylanders!

So I am assuming since you can actually access those settings it is your map. This definitely seems to be a glitch. My guess is it has been a while since you played and came in after an update and something went wrong with your map functions....or they updated the door style and/or keys. I have seen it happen with the wooden door with the lion head knocker..... but with those settings you should be mayor. Did you make the demolition hammer? The Iron hammer does not work.

Also I am understanding that you have not played for a while since you were talking about the barrier not working. It just may be the map you are playing on is outdated.

Try making the demolition hammer....not the iron hammer. And see if you can deconstruct the door with it......if not....then the map may have other glitches and I would recommend sending the output logs in bug reports.

@Nikki SeverinHow can we have the game set single player but have a player count of 8? That never made sense to me.

    Looking into this! Thanks :)

While I realize that the DEVs are busy people, a post sitting unrecognized and unacknowledged for nearly  30 days while the issue worsens is sub par for the type of response I would expect from this game developer.

What began as random freezing of the game has become an hourly and often more frequent annoyance. For example, I have been in and out of this game 4 times in the past half hour. Each restart occurs in the same approximate location but not the same pose or specific location within the cave I am spawning into. The spawn position seems to be either up or down the cave by as much as 20 or 30 yards (convert texture squares to 4 foot units).  I have included the log files pertinent to this specific instance and will offer as much more data as necessary to assist.

Please at the very least respond in some way to let me know that this post has been seen by a Developer and not just another player. As often as we can and do help each other in the forums as players we cannot assist with core technical issues and must turn to the "authorities" for assistance.

Since I returned to the game in late December, I have been experiencing a variety of anomalies in the game (based on previous in game experience), some of them I have seen mentioned in the forums some not. Would it be possible to open a dialog?

All of my maps are setup as locally hosted single player games then opened individually to one or more players as needed and closed again at the end of a play session. I spend 90% of my time in single player mode on what I assume to be my local machine.

    output_log.txt

    output_log_clean.txt

    DxDiag_01202022.txt

My apologies, sometimes a post slips through the cracks, I'll check with the team to see what the issue might be!

    Thank you for your patience!

  9. Hey there, Ylanders!

It's high time we parted the watery curtain a bit more and gave you another look at what lies below the surface of the Ylands sea, right under the surface and also deep, like super super deep.

The sea floor is now a barren wasteland. But we said enough, no more, we need to breathe some life into the underwater world. For a while, we've been telling that update 1.9 will be all about water, so there's no better time to introduce underwater biotopes

We're working on 6-7 (this may still change!) different biotopes such as coral reefs or kelp forests, which will be specific to the relevant biomes. This, in practice, means that you won't find a coral reef in colder climates such as the Arctic Biome, but will have to sail over to the Tropical Biome to discover the wonders that corals have to offer. Coral reefs, naturally, are full of life, which is a topic for another Dev Diary, but for now, can you guess which biotopes we're going to introduce to the underwater world of Ylands?

    copy.png

And to make things even more interesting and more exploration-worthy, we've increased the ocean depth to be 5 times the current depth. That's adding oh-so-much-more space to be explored. How much do you think you can explore before your air runs out? Again, a topic for another Dev Diary 😉

Well, that's it for this week, Ylanders! Don't forget to...

    Stay Classy!
