RESOLVED Glaring issue with block placement
kimbuck replied to Antimidation's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
@equieri ...... yes i deduced that was the issue... the ship was 4 squares away from the pier i was building and i decided to build another a bit further way ..and saw the line of new block converge towards the ship ...! When i moved the ship, some of the blocks moved with it so they must have infringed on the ships grid. But i still found the build system fiddly ... i looks like its going to take a while to get used to it.. I had a very, frustrating day, as you can tell! the screenshot i took doesn't help ..just showed the blocks slightly out of alignment with no other frame of reference.... -
Unfortunately, although there are lots of fixes and new stuff, there are too many frustrating issues ..especially with the building changes and such. I wasted a whole day struggling with the fiddly building mechanics and with the absence of 1st person i had great difficulty. Leveling land and filling in depressions with soil is not working properly .. the iron hammer is more effective at demolition than the demolition hammer, and several old glitches ie with horse riding, invisible ships etc seemed to have returned. Some others have been chatting to me expressing their dismay, and it looks like their activities / interest in Ylands has declined. I am beginning to feel the same way . What is more depressing is that some other dedicated players think its their fault that players are not continuing and dropping out due to frustration. So far i have seen 6 friends stop participating, and there's now another 2 who are considering just "being there" as only admins etc and leaving the game to the new generation who prefer combat, pets, shiny things etc. instead of creating / building.- --which was the games initial forte and attracted a generation who used their brains instead of brawn. Sadly, its now a case of playing the game less and enjoying it more...

Maybe in the future.... way in the future, after the official release and all the current bugs ironed out.

RESOLVED Glaring issue with block placement
kimbuck replied to Antimidation's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
well it seems that the blocks construction/placement field is larger now and it was interfering with the area of my ship parked 4 block widths away and attaching themselves to my ships hull indirectly! I moved my ship further away and some of the blocks went with it! I then found that the pier i was constructing ... the blocks would now align! So peeps, it seems with the new placement thing, the blocks being placed have a wider area of influence around them... so do not try to place walls etc around objects already in place .. it wont work! You need to make your walls etc first ..then place the contents inside. Looks like the building interface needs tweaking. -
RESOLVED Glaring issue with block placement
kimbuck replied to Antimidation's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Ok i have had enough. I have tried everything...changing blocks etc and moving around up down and whatever.... and the blocks will still not line up ... even relogged ( twice so far .. the first was to fix the "invisible ship bug where you see people floating on the water with an anchor. I cannot build ... blueprints are not working as we have been advised ... sooo? Guess its time to play another game that works, or watch cats and car crashes on youtube...until we hear of a hotfix.. or else ..if thats too far away, its time for a divorce and consider the cost of this game a write off to experience ... Ylands was a good and relaxing game but now its pure frustration.... but we do have duck boats and extra pets... -
RESOLVED Glaring issue with block placement
kimbuck replied to Antimidation's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
i have wasted 15 minutes trying to align a block with others... it refuses to "snap" into place... others are having the same issues... you have to do a fiddly dance back and forth etc to try and get it to align..and without 1st person... its almost impossible How can we build with this ? Do we have to again give up on ylands until release 0.12 arrives in the future (?) with some fixes and more bugs? -
The P! pve server is popular ...sometimes we have to play "tag" to let new people in as all 8 slots on the server are filled. That's because its griefer free and co operative with players seeking non pvp and an opportunity to create without asshats spoiling things. But what happens is soon the game deteriorates..... the map is obviously laboring under the strain. Hopefully 0.11 does something to improve the situation otherwise MP is a total loss. A new map was started 2 days ago ... with the appendix " fingers crossed ' added to the description .. should also have read ...."...and toes, and legs etc too " When there are more than 3 players on line, sleep goes out of synchronization .. Now the inventory and other glitches have returned ... yes the "disappearing boat": syndrome has re-appeared. Workstation disappear after items are added to craft... and re-appear after a lengthy wait to re-log. Crafted items disappear.... i crafted a chest and it disappeared ...after a re-log there were two ..superimposed over each other. Objects in boxes and chests refused to move out when selected.... you deconstruct the chest .....and the items are not there. Phantom trees after chopping ... still happening. The admins restart the server sometimes 3 to 4 times a day ...and all goes well ...for 30 minutes on average after each restart. A lot of these issues ":fix" themselves with a re-log, but when you have to do 6 relogs with a 5 minute log i time wait, just to see what you crafted ..it is beyond frustrating. ..waiting for 0.11 for the fixes ...but didn't i say the same during 0.9 waiting for 0.10? But least we have duck boats and pets! .. and land and air sharks ...! ( still) I culled 23 sharks in the air earlier today some were at sub-orbital height )

That is a very subtle joke.... whats that on the horizon.. a bird? plane?...superman? .... bug fix? nope its a ...flying pig! Pssst devs .. its a JOKE .. to give you a smile ...meanwhile keep the good stuff coming....
-
i hope the sleep synchronization gets fixed ...with 3 or more players online in MP its not working properly....l takes all night to get everyone to sleep Currently, there's issues with logging n ... freeze at log in screen.... no hamster wheel and i sit there for eternity. Guess i should spend my time playing another game until 0.11 arrives as its so frustrating.

Petition to re-add first person view
kimbuck replied to RedEagle_P1.'s question in Suggestions & Feedback
1st person is very useful when you have to use a spade top remove "floating" little pieces of dirt/stone. If 3rd person allows that, then no quibbles from me. I wont be taking my bat and ball and stomping off home -
I paid a visit to the spawn island on P1 map28 and as usual it was littered with offline "one day visitors" ..and with the lag, i could guess why they didn't stay around. After some "usual" MP rubber banding, and unexplained freezes where the ship suddenly freezes at high speed, and then unfreezes and its only two lengths from the shore.... ( requiring some frantic digging to re-float it,) i decided to head away to less laggy areas...and spotted in the distance a dinghy approaching. It sailed by, with someone standing on it, unresponsive .. .......a /who command revealed the dinghy occupant was "offline" .... so out of curiosity i sailed after it..... After about 3 minutes i got the wide blue sea warning... and stopped ... the dinghy kept going.... so i pursued it and caught up with it and it was still sailing away at high speed.. So before i might sail off the end of the world, i turned 180 degrees and navigated back to base. I wonder... what happened to that offline avatar, and his boat ...has it sailed off into another dimension... or perhaps ended up in another game...like minecraft, fortnite...or (shudder) roblox? Usually a boat stops when out of sight, but this could be a warning .....,don't go offline, or sleep on a moving boat ...

I was having issues with my inventory for over an hour and getting frustrated. I could not select item 7 from my hot bar, and was about to give up for the day . I took screenshots, logs and whatever in preparation for a posting to the bugs topic in the forum, and when posting my complaint to other players to see if they had similar issues, i noted that whenever i typed 6, 67 appeared and same when i typed 7. Then "he who uses screwdrivers and soldering irons" looked over my shoulder and said " its your keyboard" !!!' Sure enough a close inspection revealed something sticky had fallen between the 6 and 7 keys, and collected dust bunnies had adhered to it and built up, effectively joining the two keys together. After cleaning with a nail file and tweezers to remove the sticky substance.... the keys behaved themselves and problem solved! So i saved the devs from looking through lines of code etc trying to see what was happening As my father once said to my mother, " the reason why your vacuum cleaner was not working was because you had not put the power cord into the wall socket! " maybe it runs in my family?

I have scaled back my activities due to both real life, and also lack of other player interaction in MP. Mostly its because of time zones...whenever i am active and have time to log in, the rest of the world is asleep and vice-versa .. .. and interruptions to my power supply through thunderstorms... that's not Ylands fault! Hopefully as the game streamlines and gets closer to full release, more players will join in. But i must report... on the latest P1 map i have been sailing around and encountered no ship mis-adventures. I do get some lag, especially when the weather changes, and notice that when the weather does change its not a gradual fading in ..and out .. its s sudden event. As its Spring ..approaching summer here in Aussieland, the call of the outside garden and nice weather interferes with internet availability time

Well, after it roasted my butt, i stopped exploring around it ... so there is a key? hmmmm - might be something in a cave or another building... ?

The game is currently being optimized and therefore they are fixing whats there and not cluttering up the game with newer things. However .... ...in the future these are things i would like to game to add: Crafting cement...( using clay and broken marble and water) ... there could be pre-designed shapes like doorways archways and such that appear transparent when you place them... you select one and "add" crafted s cement ..and it appears and becomes solid... More pets ...a bat, vulture ? More clothing variety .. for females.. Ability to place seeds for crops in rows .... More flowering decorative trees ...perhaps fruit trees that go through a flower and fruiting and dormant cycle Glass blocks! Sheep and chickens which can be "farmed" Ocean creatures such as whales and dolphins.... Any more suggestions from others?

Ha Ha Ha ... "oils aint oils, sol"..... that was a (supposed) ploy to distract Colonel Sanders (Advice... never type something on a forum immediately after waking up and before a cup of coffee...)

The new Chicken house on Australorp Island .... on Red's P1 server. Plenty of protected ship parking near the " flying chicken" and there's a nice big flat area for testing new vehicles in the near future.... with a tree barricade to stop crazy drivers from crashing into the ocean! .....As you can see in the last picture, I am still waiting for the furniture to be delivered I believe the Acme company is still busy delivering to the Coyote first...

Perhaps have at spawn area an NPC undertaker

The new map on the P1 server is interesting, challenging ..and fun. To day i went for a tour of 6 of the islands, saw other players bases, found interesting structures and such, and had a bug free time. The explorer ship, "The Frying Chicken" encountered no glitches bugs or such, perhaps the ghastly pink sails warned off any malicious JuJu.. On my travels i found on two islands, gold veins near the surface. and NO! - i did not plunder them and take all, just about 10 units from each vein and left the rest for following explorers to locate and share. That is the attitude of the P! team, and it leads to an enjoyable friendly time. I also encountered around the islands barrels and chests left behind with items to help others start out... so come on in and join it the great PVE multiplayer fun ! the pictures are of the "Frying Chicken" ...note the ramps that allow easy access to and from beach heads!

if you find an abandoned fort ..you can use a hammer to break the bricks up and get clay from them .... it takes a while, and a couple of hammers... but it works! I found an abandoned kiln from a visitor who didn't stay on my island... i demolished it and got some clay to rebuild it inside my barrier. Players placing their barrier to block other players from gathering resources... well that's just how some players think ... you just got to suck it up and locate alternative areas

I have a home-built one courtesy of my technical other half. He purchased an empty tower case and assorted bits at one of those computer geek market surplus items disposal days ... He fitted in a gigabyte MB and an i3 cpu, a beefed up power supply, a Nvidia 750 gtxi video card and 16 ram os... and a sata 500 gig hd.. recently boosted by a WD external 2 Tb hd. This was back in 2012 ...and its been motoring along nicely running 90% of my stuff without issues .... Its not able to run PUBG ( it can - but its laggy as a snail travelling across treacle..). I been hinting at an upgrade... but things are sufficient at the moment. Ylands runs ok on it .

Here are the members of the P! server think tank, brainstorming ideas for suggestions

not sure if this is just multiplayer or not ... but when the weather changes from sunny to stormy and vice versa, the the lighting doesn't change gradually ..its like someone flipping a switch.
