OOOOh you teaser!

Positive Feedback: Just loaded the update and did i bit of ylanding before my breakfast .. and you guys rock! The interface changes are great. While using a shovel , it worked efficiently, not hit and miss like it used to do ... and holes don't appear in the ground. Also dirt and sand dug by the shovel whilst leveling terrain do not go into your inventory cluttering it up, but instead drop nearby... very good! Looking through the changelog, its apparent that you guys do pay attention to whats reported, and you do take action. Ylands will really take off after the steam release! Well done! ( we need an applause emote )

RESOLVED [YLD-7618] Falling through earth again
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Could it be related to our graphics card? I have a Nvidia GTX 750 ..... They sent me an update today. If anyone else has this issue, perhaps they could advise their graphic card details, it might be a factor... -
RESOLVED [YLD-6846] [YLD-7094] sharks and porous materials
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
More info on the porous materials issue. It was raining heavily.. there were some decorated stone panels on the floor, and i picked them up in readiness for another project. As soon as they went into my inventory, rain started coming through the roof where the stone panels wereon the ground, and in the same pattern on the roof as how the panel were aligned when they were sitting on the floor. When the rain returned later, the roof acted as normal. Unfortunately i had no stone etc to put on the ground and take back to test to see if it happens again. maybe some others could try it. And yes ..i found another shark on dry land , outside my window disturbing my sleep ... same position etc as the one shown in the funny screenshots thread. The shark meat was delicious -
Ships and exploring.... Sharks will harass you and try to board your ship whenever you release the controls to eat, sleep or read map. Try extending the stern of your ship and fitting around the waterline and just above it, iron spikes. these can do damage to you too, so be careful in that area Make a weatherproof cabin / sleeping area fitted with a brazier for warmth in cold regions...enclose the brazier 3 sides and a cover to stop it going out in rainy weather. Place storage containers around the sides as barriers and to carry any plunder in. Take with you in containers.. Food, weapons and ammo in addition to what you are carrying, stone blocks and logs to construct piers etc to the land at your destination. Also include warm weather and cold weather clothing. Place spears near the mast to repel any sharks that get to frisky. I construct side Armour and fit stairs leading down to a platform near the bow. That way i can gently ease my ship close to the shore and from the platform drop dirt into the shoals to form a bridge to the shore. You can easily reverse your ship away when leaving. Lanterns ...place them near the entry points of your ship and near the helm area. predators dont like light, so planting a lantern at the end of your pier acts as a deterrent to any predator cornering you if you have to run back to your ship. Craft and take a fishing rod.... easy food and fish are easier to catch than in real life Carry tools and a repair kit, spare rope and don't forget your map ..and a back up pencil. Make a copy of your map on paper near your mouse ...so you can indicate where certain Ylands are and also what resources/climate are/is there. A crossbow is a great weapon ... craft spares and collect feathers ... you can dispose of some predators on the shoreline from your ship before embarking, and carry materials for crafting more ammo, ie resin flint sticks.. Stormy weather ... its best to anchor your ship and lower sails and ride the storm out, otherwise in the gloom etc you could run aground and its not fun digging your ship out with sharks around. When releasing controls to eat or read map etc .. step back and face away from your helm .. that's so you cannot accidentally destroy your helm with a punch or two. ( I have done it and its a long swim back to get materials to replace it ... carry spares just in case ) I find a large ship with 2 masts is adequate..and i use stone panels to widen the deck and put a buffer between myself and any sharks. My decks overhang the sides of my dock so its easy to jump off after docking, and i have a staircase and deck high level platform to assist in jumping on to the ship...handy if there are sharks around your pier/dock. I will post pics of my ship when its finished .. but previous posts by me show my first attempts ...seem more successful than others. Ok Coffee time... with a dash of rum Ohter Ylanders, please, add more suggestions ...

kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Terrific! ...will do! Decided against re-starting and i managed to return to my base and re-craft what i lost. If it re-occurs, will grab log file immediately and advise you Thanks! -
Regarding the sixth point, the new Paintgun is super effective help for marking different containers Ahh yes! great idea...

RESOLVED [YLD-7618] Falling through earth again
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I tried to re log ...waited for 15 minutes watching my avatar in space flapping arms and running nowhere.. then i "suddenly died from unexplained circumstances" .. you guys sure have a funny sense of humor Respawned and then went searching where i "disappeared" to see if i could locate my grave-site and recover anything ... nothing found. -which is a shame as i was bringing back all my back up weaponry and clothing etc to re stock my re-spawn area. Decided to take a break and try anew game after the 29th update, as i lost so much equipment its will be just as easy to re-start from the beginning. But i noticed something that might be associated with the incident?.... around the Yland is what appears to be a barrier... like a join in the tile between my yland and other ylands nearby. I took 3 screenshots ... Will spend the next couple of days in my padded cell banging my head against the wall, waiting for the updates -
I have been on my new explore Yland for 4 days now and have yet to do a circuit of it! This is because of the challenge of more animals ..packs of bears wolves and pumas! I have loaded my respawn area with containers of spears etc .. and i am sure glad i did! After i finish eating my lunch i have to go back in and got to were i was last " ruthlessly slain by a brown bear" ....actually i ran into 3 of them and a pack of wolves .. at least 2 wolves ..so going to have a real battle recovering my things. I was in the process of dispatching a bear when i noticed another bear..."bear hugging" a tree ...it was halfway up the trunk, but unfortunately a screenshot was not possible as 4 wolves jumped out of nowhere at me ..i got two with the crossbow in 3 shots and as i was replacing my crossbow with a spear for close up fighting... the bears hit me from behind. Yes .. the game is really challenging!

New updates mean more animals and challenges!
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
wow.... predators everywhere... was attacked simultaneously by 3 wolves came back after respawn with crossbow and dispatched 2 from a distance..and fended off the 3rd at close range with a sabre then had a puma arrive ..and again hand to hand combat ... was bout to claim the wolf skins and noticed a tail behind a rock ..another puma was waiting near the 2 wolf corpses! moved around and for m a distance finished him with the crossbow. was then walking home with all my booty etc and suddenly fell through the earth ... games hung ..i cannot get to the surface ... stuck all commands not working. My score until then was about 15 wolves 6 bears 5 pumas.... and i could still hear distant cries in the hills i had not yet explored! -
My island seems to have more tomb stones now, than oak trees. Constant respawning can lead to despondency. I post these tips , not as cheats but to help a newbie get a start in this very creative and absorbing game. 1) Note your spawn/start position. When you get the chance mark it and place nearby a container or clearly visible the following: - A spear, a flint lighter, wood pieces, a torch, and clothing so you do not freeze to death, and something like stones pointing to where your base is located. 2) weapons.. the best weapon for close encounters with predators is a spear. then a sword. Crossbows and bows and arrows etc are best at long range but take time to reload and impossible to aim at close range ..,,and by the time you are ready to shoot , the predator is on top of you, mauling you. Carrying a spear, you can respond quickly to a surprise attack and get in multiple hits at close range. 3) long range weapons such as crossbows and rifles etc are best for attacking a predator thats unaware of your presence.. move to higher ground with cover, and ensure there is a gully or obstruction you can fire over that will impede the predators response 4) wolves are in packs ..once you dispose of one ... look around for others before you try to gut the corpse. 5) Sharks at the moment have the ability to squeeze though wooden decking of ships ... they seem to prefer to attack when you release the controls of the ship and are taking a snack or looking at your map. As soon as you hear the "gloph-gloph" sound ... run to the front of the ship.. they will usually come up from behind and try to maul your bottom --- If you have some spears positioned around the base of the ships mast, you can mount a counter attack..but be careful ...don't swing wildly in case you hit your helm.and destroy it...or the ships deck ..or you destroy your ship! 6) gunpowder kegs ..if you find one or dig one up ... place it away from where you are working.. striking one with a tool can cause an explosion. I was excavating a basement in one dwelling and struck a keg with my spade... "Kaboom" ..when respawned i returned to find the entire center of my house a huge crater...no forge ..foundry, smelter and half my boxes of items! 7) When excavating ores etc dont dig hastily... you could break through into an subterranean cavern and find yourself surrounded by beasts with glowing eyes and luminous spots... Best to carry only items of necessity when digging et, leave expert tools and other high profile items back at your base 8) after crafting weapons with ammo such as crossbows and guns, leave a spare and some ammo behind in your base... then you will have something to fight with when you go to recover your corpse contents. Any one else has any survival tips? ...feel free to add them here...but dont post anything considered to be a "cheat" or exploit. Half the fun in this game is devising solutions to problems ... and also giving the developers ideas to make the game better and fix anything they see as being broken. looking forward to the time we can mod clothing ;-)

These tips need updating now that the crafting tree has changed ..so will post a collection of them after the steam release ... perhaps in a new thread for the new steam powered ylanders

New updates mean more animals and challenges!
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
Also if you see sharks waiting at the shoreline, you know there's land based predators nearby and the sharks are blocking an escape route! I wish i could have got that screenshot of the bear hugging a tree halfway up its trunk! If you move slowly you can see the bears stand and sniff the air... looking for your scent. The only attack if you get too close. Wolves react to sound and will attack as soon as they spot you ..if a wolf sees you, fight it with a spear as a crossbow/bow doesn't reload quick enough. Only use a crossbow on a wolf if its a long way away and sleeping - it will stand.... hit it at leas 3 times with an arrow before it turns to face you ... if it sees you and if you are too close, it will rush you. I had a pesky goat keep walking between me and a bear target ... the bear then rushed me from behind the goat. -
New updates mean more animals and challenges!
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
I now have 2 bear skins for bear skin coats With just my back up stone spear i managed to defeat a pack of 5 wolves ... by stealth and surprise. The wolves will attack from a long way off, and its best to stand and fight with a spear as they will chase you back to your base... and they can easily outrun you. I lured the bear away from my corpse....( he was waiting for me there) and escaped by swimming ..but nearly became shark bait. I crept back to my gravesite and recovered my crossbow and bolts... and got the bear from long range, waiting at the shoreline where i dived in. Its now a really challenging game, and you need to use cunning and stealth .. -
It was many nights before Christmas All quiet in my Ylands house Nothing was stirring, not even a mutant mouse But a noise at my window, woke me with a fright, What could it be, this time of the night ? I opened the door and peered out into the dark.... And who did I see? Why, it was....... SANTA- SHARK!
-
Whats are they putting in the drinking water at BI????? I discovered why there are now more animals on each Yland and why there are so many bears, wolves, pumas etc! Its because of the rabbits! They are giving the other animals ideas on how to spend the nights!

RESOLVED [YLD-7094] Rain inside cave
kimbuck replied to A3_Melle's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I can confirm this happening ..i ave encountered it at really deep depths...and even see lightning although i am deep underground. -
i also had a pack of 5 wolves... one even made it to the gates of my base and was waiting when i returned after a respawn ...luckily i had a spare spear just inside the doorway. There seems to be more wildlife now .. and some of the horses are two toned ...light brown with a dark brown mane and tail. Luckily i found an area with feathers..and a tower with a crossbow.. I also notice that hammers don't last as long as before ..and sometimes the iron hammer will no be recognized when crafting stone...you need a stone hammer as well. Overall the game looks and feels better ... and i still getting the sharks sitting offshore watching me build... but so far none flying or stuck in trees.
-
Hint Hint Hint.... any chance of more female avatar clothing? I notice more animals .. the yland i am on now is littered with testaments .... and after surviving multiple brown bear attacks at my spawn point i discovered there's 6 of them hanging around that area! Looking forward to the updates and new stuff.

When lighting a fire with the flint lighter, sometimes your avatar will kneel and face in the opposite direction to the fire etc you are trying to light. Also its hard to tell what you are hitting etc when using an axe, or hammer ... sometimes you have to face slightly to the left of the object. When placing items into a container, if you release it before its fully in the compartment, ..ie touching the barrier... the container will freeze... and not be usable ...you have to remove what you can... then re log. Sometimes the crafting does not recognize your have an iron hammer... you have to add a stone one into your inventory.

As i am the sole despotic dictator and supreme ruler of Bongo-Bongo, I think its time to share with you all some pictures of my results of experimentation etc, which will be superseded after the arrival of Ylands on steam and its included update. One picture is of the inside of my storage room, where over the crates are stone letters indicating whats in the crates ( Au =gold, Fe= iron.. steel, sulfur, saltpeter, coal & cy for clay etc) There's another room not shown but has cabinets with tools, weapons etc again with stone letters to help identify whats in them. I also have outside some boxes for storage of stone, marble and plunder form other Ylands. The other pictures are of my base with attached dockyard and moored exploration ship. I have reclaimed a lot of ground to make fruit/food supplies, and on other side theres flax and cotton plantations plus palm trees. There's also a small courtyard with seagull statues ..and growing between them are purple orchids ( not yet in flower). The top story has a 360 degree view with windows and lanterns, aiding in navigation , and on the roof i just fitted a wind turbine, - but not sure how to use it yet! As you can see, I have had fun! Thinking positive, will do better after the steam release with all the new stuff. No sharks were harmed in the taking of these screenshots! This is the dock and moored explorer ship below is one of the storage room

Thanks I have now started a new game to take advantage of all the recent upgrades...i couldn't wait until the 29th so hoping the new fixes do not introduce new things requiring a new game start. The new game is interesting .. as soon as i appeared i was confronted by a brown bear ...and after a dramatic "bare" fisted "bear" fight, and down to 1 and a half health hearts, i punched the bear into some meat and components for crafting a new fur coat! But what is interesting was over the hill i encountered a huge stone statue, that was posed like it was offering a gift.. and it was! --- I will not spoil the game by posting a screenshot or other details/spoilers other than say it was something for me and that it had eyes and looked "stoned" .. (Ane and Ales will get a smile from that pun! ) Ok- back to my Yland ... aptly named " Despotica" and looking forward to the fixes on the 29th ..i should be up to ship building by then, so hopefully those sharks will behave.

Aww ty for the thought... but as there's other benefits ie bigger ylands area etc , i am prepared to take the plunge again from the start on a new game... that way i can avoid the mistakes i made this one and also avoid the tombstones that i keep tripping over, reminding me of my past blunders I am all for the adventure ... and i will make a better sharkproof ship! Tomorrow ( oops .. dec 6 ) i conquer Ylands ! ... next year ... the world! Meanwhile i can spend the next week or so looking for things to help , working out what all those energy things do and those strange structures ... and reading up on my Dictatorship manuals !
-
Thats a positive point! Guess i will spend the time up to the update looking around and experimenting with building etc Starting again on Dec 7 with more knowledge and as you say, more to look forward to What i must do now is post a few screenshots of the current game buildings etc as a momento.
-
thanks .. then they just wont appear on my yland ..i have already explored 2 other yands with tropical biome and also several other ylands ...will the trees start to appear there? or do i have to abandon this game and start all over af again.. ? ( I hope not!)
