Control tower to all craft in the vicinity .... a shark has overshot the runway and crash landed. Its advisable to all ylanders with residences adjacent to the sea to keep all windows closed, and be alert. If using a latrine... it might pay to check under the seat before using... you just dont know where these sharks will emerge from next! :-) Requesting that the developers investigate the possibility of ylanders being given the ability to craft shark proof umbrellas...

RESOLVED [YLD-6846] [YLD-7094] sharks and porous materials
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Witnessed the porous roof again ..but couldn't find the screenshot to post it. Rain came through like the stone paneling was not there. However i also noticed that in some cases if there is vegetation, - trees - near a wall, and the leaves/branches pass through the wall, also so will the rain. But in the roof episode, theres no vegetation nearby. Sometimes the "leaks" appear to be at th edges/joins of blocks or panels. If i can locate the screenshot i took , will post it here. -
its getting to be a real pain in the "stern". :-) Its some sort of bug that needs to be fixed, I had a friend try this game and got tired of being attacked by them and losing his ship, and having to start a new game in frustration. if i can show him that its been fixed, i might be able to get him to join in in multiplayer game. Try fitting a cannon on the top deck and shooting the sharks with it? it seems these sharks come in underneath, and can pass through wood structures and as others join in they force the first ones skywards..
-
looks impressive! but wear armored trousers just in case - those sharks have a habit of coming up through the floorboards behind you and trying to bite your backside :-) Meanwhile i have the plans for a " S.S Ridiculous"... .a sailboat with the helm elevated on stilts at the front etc... You will need to use eye bleach after looking at it :-)
-
well, that busts all my theories! These sharks can pass through wood, stone and climb to amazing elevations out of water. I shudder to think how they will react to aircraft... Shark hijacks at 30,000 metres? I notice that the attacks usually occur after you release the controls to either snack or read your map. Finding a way to defeat these creatures is sure becoming a challenge. Will the developers be considering giant kraken next? ..or perhaps whales? or maybe porpoises/dolphins you can follow to other islands..

Storage boxes ..i craft from stonemasons workstations stone letters and symbols to place on wall over boxes to identify their contents... eg cu = copper, fe = iron st = steel, s = sulphur sa = saltpetre, gp = gunpowder w+a = weapons and ammo, co coal, ch charcoal, gl glass , sd , sand etc Cabinets hold more items and when using forge, use any crafting spots to make extra nails ...you can never have enough. I also carry on my ship some massive logs... at least four, and when visiting an island , use them as a bridge to connect my ship to land... place a lantern at the land end to discourage predators climbing aboard and to help you find your way back. Remember, its just a game and its fun.!
-
after crafting a map and pencil, put the map in a dynamic slot so it will update as you move around ...but check occasionally to make sure that your pencil is not broken or the map will not update. Bears are formidable opponents...hard to kill. so if you see one, be careful and try to avoid direct conflict. .., they are usually resting... so try a long range attack with a crossbow/gun. A fishing rod can be handy for supplementary food. craft a pole, rope and needle and try your luck ..its easier than in real life! Have fun!

if you see sharks waiting offshore giving you the "hairy eyeball", it could indicate a predator lurking nearby, and its hoping you will try to escapeit by running into the water. if you have a spear prepare to stand and fight the predator (wolf/puma) ..if you see it first and attack from behind you have a better than 75% chance of slaying it.. try to plant nearby a food source (Corn.bananas..) and also a flax/cotton source in case there's bad weather. When building a refuge. try to make it 2 story, internal stairs, and with an entrance (lockable ) on both levels- but the upper level accessible by a ramp or stairs illuminated by lanterns ... that will discourage roaming wolves etc. from sneaking in if a door is left open at night. If you have copper available ..or find a loot deposit with copper ore or an ingot, craft a miners helmet with the lamp ... its indispensable when it gets dark or when mining, as it allows your hands to be free to defend yourself if necessary.
-
be careful when killing the sharks .. the corpses can upset the balance of your ship! You will need a hammer and some time to destroy that tombstone and allow your ship to move again. You might have to move that pool level to above the water line...maybe with an air gap between it and the lower deck. Can the developers introduce a new weapon...a harpoon?
-
will post a pic of my next attempt at a shark resistant ship ...planning to build a false decking above the existing deck with an elevated helm. My theory is that the sharks cannot move though an air gap above the waterline.. thats why they don't attack through stone mooring decking. .. i think ;-) You have to give credit to the games developers for providing a platform for creativity. I am compiling a list of tips to help new starters get a hold on the game without getting despondent with continual respawning. The island i am on at the moment has just as many tombstones as there are oak trees! Does your yellow submarine have windows? ( evil grin...)

Car feedback, problems and tips+tricks
kimbuck replied to WijkagentAdrie's question in Suggestions & Feedback
hmmm getting ideas.... might construct an armoured vehicle with a bumblebee cannon on the roof ...watch out bears ! Also planning on testing how a cannonball can affect a shark waiting on the seashore ;-) By the way , they are impressive builds! -
Also dangerous rabbits! got a message "too dangerous to sleep here" and found a rabbit hiding inside my dwelling. Regarding sharks, constructing a new ship with the helm elevated above the deck and see if the sharks can fly! The last ones came in through a gap in the stone deck ...there were 4 of them... poor captain had no chance. International rescue tried to retrieve the s s sharknado on a raft, and after paddling around in freezing conditions.. spotted the ships lights in the distance ...but it to perished under the weight of a shark attack. Also a warning.. when having a snack on your ship, stand well back from the helm ...least you run out of snacks and accidentally punch the helm and destroy it! and have no resources on board to replace it! And it can be embarrassing when fighting off sharks with a spear you miss ..and destroy your ship from underneath you. We were told to watch the birds at sea ....ummm will the be soon equipped with bombs or torpedoes? :-) I better not give the developers ideas!
-
disaster! s s Sharknado drifting aimlessly without captain, victim of multiple shark attack through floor of ship. Captains corpse last seen sinking in open seas to titanic depths. Anyone finding an abandoned ship laden with ores and weapons... please return to me !! hahah.. oh well another start... ;-) At east i managed to get that bear that tried to climb aboard my ship earlier. yes an amphibious and tried to scramble aboard bear attack ...it was lurking in the water..( probably wearing bear scuba apparatus ) and tried to scramble aboard as i was moving into the shore. it pays to have a spear positioned near your mast where you can grab it easily
-
they seem to attack whenever you release controls to eat ...and if you are carrying food such as meat slices, they must smell it and go into a frenzy! I am in explore mode... i use my ship to gather resources form other islands, thats why all the storage boxes around the front... Somehow i think these sharks are just a fun thing for the developers :-) ..its their quirky sense of humor ;-0 Its also possible the sharks dont like my dress code ;-0
-
ok took the s.s. sharknado for a spin around the island.... had a couple try to get on board but they apparently do not like some panels and flooring! They followed the ship, and would try an attack whenever i released the controls to snack. When moored afterwards there were 4 sharks under the pier and ship making noises. in the last picture ..note the beached sharks that were trying to molest me when i was gathering sand. As you can see i moved the helm forward so its not close to the area the sharks usually attack from .. and the floor area and side panels are stone and glass.. theres also a "stone" curtain across the stern just above water level. seems to have thwarted them ..will find out on a longer journey later today
-
Goat problem solved ....came out to my pier and there were 3 sharks hiding under the boat..making those funny shark noises...and no goat. I think the goat might have fallen off the deck and perished. You have to hand it to the developers... those noises the sharks make are appropriate and funny. - Its concerning when you release the boat controls ..look at your map and hear that 'gloph-gloph" sound and move the camera view back and see a shark head sticking up through the deck trying to bite your backside!
-
Those sharks can be a nuisance! The seem to be able to pass through the floorboards/deck of your ship to try and make a meal of you. I built a glass cage around the helm area to stop them it kind of worked, but they came up through the wooden floor! But i notice they will not pass through stone panels. I am currently building a ship with the helm further forward..so the sharks cannot get me from behind ...and i have enclosed the stern in glass windows with a roof..and lined the deck with stone paneling. Will be testing it today to see if it works. Hmm land sharks? musty have been put there by a sharknado, a new weather system :-) I get the sharks following me around the shoreline.... and when collecting sand for glass they will almost beach themselves .... sometimes 5 are waiting. Usually you might find a predator lurking nearby waiting to attack and force you into the water. For fun, try depositing dirt under the watching sharks, and when they are "up in the air" and stranded ... build a dirt bridge to them and spear them to death :-). Makes an amusing scene :-)

Hi .. just recently my glass forming station refuses to light... and also refuses to allow whats crafted to be taken. I have space in my inventory, so thats not the issue. Four times i have destroyed and re-crafted the station, and still the issues... also re-logged. Re- j logging now to see if the problem is transient or still there. ..

RESOLVED GLASS FORMING WORKSTATION ISSUES
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
No worries :-) we forgive you ! But i don't like the way all those sharks seem to follow me around the shoreline...or hide under the pier my boat is moored against. Makes me very conscious of where i put my feet ;-) -
RESOLVED GLASS FORMING WORKSTATION ISSUES

Doh ;-) yup that worked .... was this something new in the steam update/.change? First time i encountered it. Thanks for the help and response ... i learn something new each day ... :-) -
RESOLVED GLASS FORMING WORKSTATION ISSUES
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Note this has now affected the glass station, the smelter, the foundry and the Charcoal furnace ...all around the same time. I suspect the same willl happen to the stove and foundry when they extinguish . -
RESOLVED GLASS FORMING WORKSTATION ISSUES
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
No change.. All workstations show as "empty ... " instead of unlit. There's no LMB interaction to light them. its not my mouse as other LMB operations work.. just even though equipped with a lighter... there's no way to light the workstation... its like the script in it has not loaded or failed -
RESOLVED GLASS FORMING WORKSTATION ISSUES
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
ok waited to see if t was an internet thing.. re logged and tried again... seems all workstations requiring to be lit show as "empty" instead of unlit...and the lighting function does not work. The work stations suddenly have no contents visible through the grates... they contain items to be crafted which cannot be removed...and show the "workstation full" display if you try to access them . destroying the workstation and re crafting it produces the same result ...an "empty" workstation". -
RESOLVED GLASS FORMING WORKSTATION ISSUES
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Re- logged ..it shows "empty glass forming ..." and it contains items to be crafted but will not light. Now the smelter is titled "empty smelter" yet has items waiting to be v crafted ..it too will not light. The foundry could be l lt ...so could the stove and the forge.. but the charcoal oven now has the same unable to light issue.. I have tried crafting and using new flint lighters.. I have dumped everything out of inventory, but still no difference . cannto take things from the workstation...and it will not light Any suggestions? -
I have explored and found desert ylands, cold ylands with snow blizzards, temperate forests and also tropical ylands ... hmmm so would it be possible to add an "aussie" style yland, with Kangaroos... and emus ( look like ostriches but not so friendly) ...and of course the cranky nasty predator.. the tasmanian devil ..( doesnt kill people in rl, but it would be a substitute for a wolf) ... also maybe a dingo ( wild dog) or two ;-) Of course you would need cockatoos ... or galahs ! I can envisage other scenarios , for other countries ... with camels etc ;-) ? Anyway, enjoying the game. only down side is the avatar is a little too basic, but i guess that will change gradually as the game develops.
