    Selling User Made Blueprints

Will we be able to sell our user-made blueprints for coyns? I think it might make for a unique experience for currency exchange between individuals which can also give creators an opportunity to be rewarded for sharing their work, an opportunity not currently granted on the workshop.

    Dev Diary #36

Or maybe give seeds the option to snap to a grid? So we can do BOTH free place and grid place. As for grid placement, I think it should only snap on x&z axis while conforming to the ground on the y axis. However you choose to do it, I agree that seed placement and farming need a bit of work

Finally got my workstation set up, going to start building the rest of the house so I'm not sleeping next to my furnace Taking a diff. approach to building this time around and I'm eager to find out how this turns out. You never know, this might be the house that I install a treasure room in...

    Ylands Building Competition I

Ylands Building Competition I Hello, fellow Ylanders! We are very happy and excited to bring to you the first ever Ylands Building Competition! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The theme for this competition is... Treasure Room -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Please do not reply to this post if you are not submitting something, Thanks! See Voting/Feedback for more details) Rules 1) Only one person may work on a project for submission. There are other team events coming later but for the time being, only one person may work on their project for submission. This means: NO external assets created by other users can be used in the build, NO actual physical edits can be made to the build by anyone other the person submitting the work. You MAY receive feedback from others prior to submission given that only the submitter work on the build. 2) Original Work Only! It is okay to be inspired by another piece of work which might influence your build, BUT any work found to plagiarize someone else's work (in or out of the submission pool). You must be the one that built the entire thing if you are the one submitting it. 3) You may interpret the theme however you would like! Given, we would like that your build is heavily influenced by the theme and has a correlation with the theme, we don't want to restrict your build so have at it! However, people might not vote as much for it if it is too far off theme, and if it is blatantly off theme the organizers may step in to disqualify your work. You may use freeroam and/or the editor to construct your work. 4) You may submit more than one creation! As long as you follow all of the rules of the competition and procedures for submission, you may submit as many separate creations as you would like. 5) NO offensive or inappropriate submissions. Keep it appropriate as we would like this competition to be as welcoming and accepting as possible. 6) When commenting on other submissions try to be as constructive as possible and avoid pointless damaging feedback. We want to create the best environment possible for all of the people who participate in the Competition. Don't ruin the vibe! 7) Have fun! This is a friendly competition. The point isn't to win, but rather to enjoy yourself, receive constructive feedback from the rest of the community, and ultimately to strengthen the community. Be respectful to everybody, and it should all work out fine! This is still a very new project so we expect there will be some issues. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM any of the organizers (@TheClockArm & @Miguel Preguisa as of now) and we'll try to address the problem as best we can! Submission The deadline for all submissions is two weeks from now, April 20th, 2018 Anyone is allowed to submit a piece of work given that they abide by all of the above rules. The process for submitting a piece of work is as follows: 1) Create a Separate forum post under Community Creations 2) Title that post: "Ylands Building Competition I - (YourNameHere)" 3) Post as many pictures of your work as you would like of your work THE VOTING IS DONE BASED ON THE PICTURES So the more pictures there are, the more reference material people can vote off of. This does NOT mean you should post as many pictures as possible, as that just gets annoying to sort through. Try to post valid, encompassing images of your build. If your build is larger, it will understandably have more pictures to go along with it. Essentially, just show us your work. 4) Include a brief project description (a sentence or two at least) at the top of the post in order to give the reviewers context on how you interpreted the theme. If you would like, You can caption your pictures! This is a great way to point out interesting details about your build, provide some context on how you achieved a cool building effect, or give us an interesting backstory to a feature. 5) After creating the post, post a link to that page as a REPLY to the main competition forum (the page you are on right now.) You may also include ONE Image in this reply in addition to the link to YOUR main post. You have submitted your work! Voting/Feedback Feedback is an important aspect of the competition, as it allows submitters to improve their work and receive general & positive feedback. That being said, we would like to try and keep the feedback organized. We want to ensure that everybody's submission is recorded and noticed by voters so we strongly discourage you from replying to this main post if you are not submitting something! If we remain organized it will be very easy for people to find other people's submissions and vote on them. Instead, we encourage you to provide specific feedback on each of the separate submission forums that the submitter has linked off to. This way, the creator is able to get feedback, and everybody's submission can be considered. For the sake of others, we are trusting the community to be able to uphold this organization standard, and I'm pretty sure we can do it (Feel free to react to this post, would like to see the general feedback. Personal Messages are also always welcomed) To vote, react to their reply on this forum! Any reaction on this page will count as +1 towards their submission. Downvote reactions will be neutral, they will NOT subtract from their score or add to their score. (It's pointless) You are allowed to react on their individual submission page but that vote will not be counted. As it is easier to tally votes in one singular forum, only reactions to their links below will count towards their score. You may vote for as many people as you would like! We encourage you to vote for anyone you think should win the competition, and to provide constructive feedback both to them and to other creators who you think could improve. Since this is a new system we are not sure if everyone will receive a very similar amount of votes, so the voting system might be adjusted later to accommodate this. I guess we will see In the event of a tie, everyone will be asked to vote on a separate poll which will only allow 1 vote per person. If this system results in a tie as well, the people who tie will receive an equal position in the competition. Voting will last for 24 hours after submissions are due. Prizes We don't really have anything to give out to you as a prize, but its really the experience you're doing this for After the voting has finished and the winners are determined, we will create a separate post in the General Discussions portion of the forum detailing the winners. The top 3 winners will be at the top, along with a picture or two from their build and maybe a mini description. The runner-ups will also be mentioned, and ALL submissions will be linked out to at the end of the post. Please message me @TheClockArm with any questions you might have or any general feedback. Anyway, Good Luck to Everyone, and remember, Have fun!

Hey everyone! Just reminding you that the two main changes since last competition are that we now encourage you to reply to this main forum post to keep this thread alive, and that voting is now done on their individual page as opposed to their reply to this page.

    Building Competition

Hey guys, Building is one of the fundamental aspects of Ylands that so many of us love, and in an attempt to bolster community spirit and activity I was considering attempting to organize some sort of (recurring?) building competition. A few of the ideas I jotted down while brainstorming the idea: Several events, spaced out by weeks/months Maybe a large event which spans each month with smaller competitions in between? Or small 24-48 hour events? Solo & Team Build events Each to be specified by the organizers/community prior to the start date "Theme-based building" Theme released a few days prior for prep Could cause issues with early start Or (a method which I prefer) Similar to Game jams (like Ludum Dare), there could be a theme that is kept secret and announced at the very beginning of the competition via a forum post. The community as a whole vote on the winners (as opposed to an individual choosing a winner, or a small group of people) (Or maybe only people who submit may vote, just not for themselves? I still think the more people that vote the better) Maybe a panel of judges Judges are winners of last competition or people who don't submit work? Voting done via forums, or strawpoll. (Logistics to be determined later) As for the prizes, mainly just recognition Start a "Winners" forum where pictures of the winners are posted as recognition Maybe getting the developers to congratulate or give recognition of some type? Feel as if it would be cool if the developers would interact with the community in that sense Idk, just a few thoughts. Would love to hear feedback on the idea of the game and any details I addressed here or missed. Thanks

    Building Competition

I'll let you in on a little secret. @SyxtySyx is a great builder! You shouldn't omit your work because you don't want to appear next to someone who has a high proficiency @ building. I imagine most of the people who will submit are of a lower-skill level than him, and that's okay! There is always room for improvement, including for Syx himself. Going back to your original suggestion of "skill levels" I'm not sure how we would fairly classify or rank people's skills to be put in different sections of the competition because "skill" is a very abstract, amorphous, subjective thing. And like I said if your work isn't as close to what you want it to be, who better to get advice & critiques from than the people like Syx whos work you hold above yours? The best way to get that advice would be to submit it! Additionally, I am in no way pressuring you to submit your work if you don't want to. I am only doing my best to relieve all pressures and stress that you otherwise formulate in regards to negative feedback or feeling insufficient about your work.
