Bells or horns

After visiting distant islands and finally (phew) returning to your home island where your teammates are busy working on houses or other pointless non-exploring duties, wouldn´t it be nice to have a ship´s bell or a fog-horn to make them turn around and see you coming back to port??

Just open fire with a cannon perhaps? While that would probably get their attention, I do see a couple of potential drawbacks so I like your suggestion :-P

I can see the fun in this, fog-horn sounds cool, would only be useful in MP servers though

But the second option is not bad either

Well a li´l "Ding! Ding!" goes with the piratestyle ships,  in SP mode you really do not have to craft it   Copper, wooden piece -> done

The fog horn could be used in cars too, as a regular horn ofc..
