At that point you couldn't really interact with the books and you could pretty much only use them as decoration. After the next update, if you are carrying any of those books, you might want to take a closer look at them because they might contain a word or two If you're not, do not panic because apart from crafting them, you'll also be able to find several pieces of notes, diaries or books across your ylands, even some classic literature! (You always thought of reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland but never actually got the chance? Now's the time!). Take into account that we are still working on it, so the final version might look slightly different And if you're up to the task, as long as you have some sort of writing tool with you you can also write your own short notes or diaries, or try to find the ones other people left behind.
