Making resources harder to find, and how it will affect the game
Miguel Preguisa replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
I would like to stress this one out. Alongside the change "all crafting recipes are now shown" I'm kind of losing the drive and goal of the game. To be more precise, it shifted so much it feels like a different game. It used to be about building a base and gradually improving it thanks to new unlocked recipes found thanks to new materials found exploring (pretty Minecraft style). I thought that the new changes will change it just a bit. I thought that we will see a clear objective before us (get to the next island tier) but won't be really pushed about that. Casually building base and when we feel like it, conquering another island, stripping it of its valuables and treasures and returning home. Where we feel like Kings for a bit. And then we casually upgrade the base with new materials. And after some time, we conquer again. And then home. And then conquer. Maybe building one extra base to be closer to some resources (gameplay similar to Subnautica). Mind you, I've generated just two Exploration maps in 0.15.1 but the islands on both of them were pretty far from each other. Definitely not visible from one another. Caves yet to be found (are they only on Tier 2 and 3?). And according to other posts here on the forum, even basic resources are scarce on the islands. Seems like the best course of action is to build no base at all on the first two islands then. You just go forward and pillage with no place to call home. I don't know if I played any game with similar gameplay to that yet, but ambivalent sums up my feeling pretty well about it. -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bistudio.ylandsgoo This should be it. It would be maybe nice to link it somewhere in the Dev Diary itself

Yeah, definitely! ? The Playstore showed me every sandbox game other than Ylands when searching the phrase "ylands". Had to find it through Arma in the end. The search mechanisms there are weird.

RESOLVED [YLD-20763] New Généric bloc
Miguel Preguisa replied to Bob Salvador's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I hope not, I was mildly disappointed by that not lining up. Also it seems like the hitboxes are very rough on these blocks. Means that even though the curves make visually enough space for the player to fit in, he is unable to walk through. -
No. It surely won't be an "integral part of Ylands". Most people playing Ylands won't ever play Exploration. DLC is NOT the integral part of any game. I'm more than bit worried that buggy F2P mobile game with the main gameplay being minigames done by amateur players themselves will shine.

I'm a little lost in the whole thing. For example, how do you change a text displayed in some of the custom HUD? I found this but it doesn't seem to work with the Custom HUD game logic. Nothing like "UI panel" seems to exist in the game. The wiki isn't very helpful to me around Editor. Also, what is the difference between Custom window and Custom HUD? And one bonus question. How do you make a dynamic time shown? There used to be some game logic made on the Workshop but it doesn't work anymore. Thanks a lot.

Ylands is broken & something needs to be said
Miguel Preguisa replied to RedEagle_P1.'s question in Suggestions & Feedback
He should really state this somewhere. I've been listening to the P1 livestream party too and what he said there was quite different from what anybody who read his dev diary would get from it. -
This is what the page about update 0.14 has to say about porting the game to mobiles: "You can expect the same Ylands experience on mobiles that you have on desktop. We are still experiencing with the best way to deliver certain mechanics, but we are treating this platform just as seriously as we do desktops. Our goal is that you can pick your Ylands game up on your phone, where you've left it off on your desktop." There's a few informations in this that I would call misleading. It has been stated that in the mobile version of the game, there would be no Explore scenario. And no Editor either. Which leaves us with games specialy made for the mobile. Which, if I understood correctly recent posts from creators, have a number of limitations. Half of the Ylands game now is the Explore. The other half is the Editor. There's a bunch of custom made games, but not that much for me to launch the game just because of them. No Explore, no Editor, and just some of the few custom games. That doesn't sound like the same Ylands experience nor do I think I will be able to pick my Ylands game up on my phone, where I've left it off on my desktop. I can see a lot of people disappointed after reading all this and then being presented something way different.

Misleading info about mobile Ylands
Miguel Preguisa replied to Miguel Preguisa's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, rewriting post. The text editor!! I can't write anything normally! My blood is boiling right now. Same on mobile, same on notebook, same on PC. Three years now. Why can't I comment in peace. -
I swear you are the first person I've heard about that knows (and even likes!) Flight of the Conchords ? It's interesting how similar taste do I have with some members of the team. You should make some movie and book tips alongside the Diaries! I really enjoyed the one movie tip I got from Ane back then

I prefer the new music, but the old one has a great nostalgia to it, so I'm all up for playlist

Scripting in Standard Explore
Miguel Preguisa replied to Adam Snellgrove's topic in General Discussion
PreScriptum: I accidentally commented on another thread, but I hope most people know that I'm commenting on the direction of the game updates. I play mostly singleplayer Explore. And this comment is mostly centered around my personal view. Let me now list all the "recent" updates to the game and what do I know them for (or what were the main features for me). 0.14 Multiplayer Playlands, Editor improvements 0.13 Multiplayer improvements 0.12 New UI, game mechanics improved 0.11 Game mechanics improved 0.10 Editor improvement, visual scripting 0.9 New UI, multiplayer sharegames 0.8 Music improvements 0.7 NPCs 0.6 Ability to paint added 0.5 Cars 0.4 Editor Workshop 0.3 Books 0.22 Funfair + some assets 0.21 Caves These are almost three years of development. If we start the other way around, there are some of the most memorable additions to the game for me (okay, to be honest, I kind of forgot about the Funfair even though it was actually fun). New cave system made me to start a new Explore scenario, which none other of the above listed features did. I still hoard books on every occasion and I love to read through them on boring days. Cars are something I like to play to this day. I quickly made modular pieces for racing and improved on them. I now "work" on third generation of it along with a racing map. 0.6; 0.7; 0.8 each made the game feel more alive with "small" additions. Almost every update after that (0.8 has been launched on 28.05.2018) was centered around polishing, multiplayer improvements or Editor improvements. The last feature that made me go wow for more than few days is the visual scripting introduced in 0.10. I like playing around with it, but it still isn't anything that would add more fun into my Explore scenario. I believe that the last year or so wasn't big for the specific group of players who enjoy singleplayer Explore the most. I'm monitoring the game and browsing forum more than actually enjoying and playing the game. And I'm waiting for the almost mythical 1.0 that is rumored to give us a many new things (a world even!) to play with. Because when I play Ylands, I still play with mostly two years old features. -
0.14: Playful Platform (05/09/2019)
Miguel Preguisa replied to Adam Snellgrove's topic in Changelogs
I really enjoyed the first look on the update and the Playlands look great but I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't any solo game If I have to wait for five people to join me, I may as well not play at all right now. I joined and nobody was online so I found a minigame that I liked, joined a queue, jumped around a few minutes. Somebody joined the same queue but stayed for like three minutes not doing anything. Then he, of course, bored, logged of. If there was anything for solo gaming, people would stay longer on the server and maybe even played together after enough players have gathered. It's sad that the real multiplayer can be tried out only by such groups as P1. -
0.14: Playful Platform (05/09/2019)
Miguel Preguisa replied to Adam Snellgrove's topic in Changelogs
What does the restriction to 3x3x3 game blocks mean? From the picture above (the green box) it seems like we will be very very limited in map. But I don't understand the "3x3x3". It's morning and I haven't woke up yet so I can't comprehend anything -
