    Every week we'll bring you an Ynterview with a member of our Ylands team. In our first Ynterview we have approached the incredibly talented Game Designer Svjatoslava 'Clair' Raskina.

    First off, what do you do here at the Ylands team and what’d you do before you joined? 

    Hi! :) At Ylands I work as a game designer. After I left university, I worked as a receptionist in a 5* hotel for a short time, but I always knew I wanted to make games. 

     

    How long have you worked on Ylands? What was the 1st thing you worked on when you joined? 

    Almost for 3 years. I started here as a game tester. It was a very interesting experience, even though I’m now subconsciously looking for bugs in every game I play. The first feature I helped design were the game costumes. 

     

    What do you find most exciting on Ylands in general? 

    Our team! The best people I’ve ever met, seriously.  

     

    And what is for you the most exciting feature coming in the new 0.14 update? 

    The Playlands (ed. More about that in last week’s Dev Diary ? ) ! It is an amazing new feature. We’re doing our best so that our players love it. Special thanks to my fellow designers Rudolf Klenovsky and Prokop Lagner without whom this wouldn’t be possible. 

     

    What are you working on right now? 

    Now I’m working on the Codex, which will help new players quickly get used to the game, and even current players may learn something new. Also, I’m working on the Playlands. 

     

    What do you do in your free time? 

    I’m Always trying not to stay at home and to visit new places and cities. Of course, I play games on PC and mobile, draw when I have some inspiration, I am engaged in various sports and read a lot of books, especially about criminology and psychology. 

     

    If you were brought up by animals, would you want them to be Flamingos or Moose? Why? ?  

    Flamingos! I would definitely learn to keep perfect balance, standing on one leg. :D

    So there is a difference in damage depending on how far you are from your target, but it is not such a huge divergence. But since you can load pretty much anything into a cannon, that could have a bigger impact, because a cannonball will be more destructive than blueberries ?

    But that is why you can't set minimal and max damage in the editor to cannons, because it depends on what the player puts into it. 

    But still doesn't answer the huge difference. If it happens again, would you please post it with the out logs and I'll see what we can find out.

    Rightio Screenshotters, here we go again ?

    But first, we have to announce the runner-ups to last weeks contest. All screenshots submitted last week were absolutely fantastic, but we chose three to give out another small pile of coyns to, so let us know your in-game names, so we can send it over.

    And now, for this week's contest, the theme will be relaxation. So any relaxing screenshots you have or relaxing situations you experience in the coming week, send them over for the chance to win a pile of coyns ?  The limit shall be again 3 screenshots per person, but don't be afraid to send in just one or two, because you only need one to win ☺️ And remember, you can submit your screenshots here, or on Instagram and Twitter under the hashtags #pycs and #YlandsPycs .

    Thank you very much for your suggestions Sandyxg. I will pass them on to the team ?

    Regarding the mods, the Editor is a really powerful tool and some creators have made some incredible games, that you can check out, but we'll look into even more modding possibilities.

    And here it is, the Winner of our weekly screenshot contest! 

    First off, we must congratulate everyone, that sent in their screenshots, because all of them were breathtaking. Unfortunately, there is just one 1st place. But that is why we have decided to reward the first three runner-ups also, so look out for that tomorrow on our Instagram.

    Greetings Ylanders!  

    It’s a brand new day and a brand new Dev Diary and boy, do we have exciting news today!  

    We are unveiling another huge feature of the 0.14 update: Playlands.  

    This will be a place to hang out, meet new people and play games. This originally P1-built castle has been filled with different kinds of short and fun mini-games, that you’ll be able to play solo or with friends. Now, these mini-games will award you XP and with those, you’ll increase your player level. And when you level up, eventually you'll unlock new customisation options in the fashion room, so you’ll be able to show off your status to all the other Ylanders in no time ? Also you’ll be able to wear these cosmetics in any other game, if not specifically overwritten by the game creator!

    And how will you start these games you may ask? Well, let me tell you right aw...what? Oh, so I’m told the most honourable Major General Archibald Bartholomew of Brenau just came in demanding to play a game at the in Playlands. Let’s see how this 'plays' out... 

    Major General Archibald Bartholomew of Brenau: Well I do say chap! What an absolutely spiffy game you have here! Would It be possible for a gentleman such as myself to try my luck on this here competition? 

    NPC: Well of course sir, it shall be my pleasure. 

    Major General Archibald Bartholomew of Brenau: And would you be a terrific dear and mollycoddle me further? I would like to measure my wits against other chaps and ladies, and I know I’m being a bit of a rabbit here, but would you round up some fellows for me? 

    NPC: It would be my utmost pleasure sir. Just sit yourself here, have a cup of tea, while I get together a group to test your mettle against. 

    Major General Archibald Bartholomew of Brenau: By thunder and hell’s bells thank you so much me old chap and here’s a fiver for your troubles. 

    NPC: I couldn’t accept your coyns dear sir, you don't need coyns to have fun in Playlands. 

    Major General Archibald Bartholomew of Brenau: Well blow my cotton socks, I think I shall rather enjoy myself here.

    So as we saw ourselves, you simply walk over to a kind NPC and interact with him telling him you want to play his game. He’ll start a queue, that everyone else in Playlands will see and they’ll be able to join in your efforts. And once you reach the player limit (currently 5 players per mini-game), the game starts. As simple as that ? Playlands itself will hold several dozen players who can communicate with each other, share ideas and play mini-games levelling out and getting that all-important bling ?

    In the future we’re also planning a weekly rotation of mini-games and also tasks and quests you’ll be able to complete in Playlands and receive even more XP. Also, you’ll be able to find a few Easter eggs commemorating the community members, that made this possible, so look out for that ?

    Is it even possible to have this many cool features coming up? I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how excited we are here in the Ylands HQ and how much we’re looking forward to you trying out Playlands for the first time ?

    Thank you all for some magnificent screenshots! Now all we have to do is choose the best one (which will be excruciatingly hard ?). Also, there were so many great screenshots, that we decided to give out a small amount of coyns to some of the runner-ups ? 

    So lookout for the winner on Sunday and the runner-ups on Monday, when we'll also reveal the theme for our next screenshot contest ?
