So that isn't exactly the case.....there are still collisions within welds.....welds just reduce collision counts, but they still occur. I also had the presumption that welding would effectively turn multiple blocks into one block and make it easier to load and render the graphics.....I was wrong. Unity can actually load multiple smaller welds faster. With ships it is a single weld when you exit construction, so that's true....but it still can have multiple collisions which can cause your fps to drop because the game is trying to render the graphics to the display. I do agree though with the assessment that a moving ship can cause some of the lag in fps and how the graphics render. Again I can say with confidence, that upgrading the RAM can effectively make those graphics render quickly. The first time I visited Caliga hall I had to wait for a few minutes when I got there because my RAM was only 4 gb......it took a while to load...Now however with 16gbRAM I can pop by Caliga Hall with no wait time. Because the RAM sends the information to my computer faster, and allows for faster rendering of graphics to my display at the correct 60 FPS. Frame per second can drop when the memory in your computer is trying to "catch up" with the time. One thing I can suggest is disabling Vertical Synchornization (VSYNC)......sometimes that can help with the frames per second problem. Do this by going into the options menu and clicking video, then disable it to see if it helps. -
Before I got my RAM upgrade I would just listen to music while it was loading.....but now it loads super fast for me, so no more 5 minute songs LOL But I agree.....it would be nice to look at pictures or something instead of the pretty spinning color wheel of death. I think everybody hates looking at that screen

RESOLVED [YLD-29868] Stuck on infinite loading screen
spiritchaser28 replied to Potato Man-e051097e76cb3293's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Hey @Nikki Severin It's less frequent now for me to get stuck at that screen. Since the last hotfixes it seems to work most of the time, however a couple days ago it got stuck on the screen and I had to hard close the game with task manager. Social is definitely working better now, but it still can glitch. I'm just thankful it glitches a lot less than it did before the hotfixes.- 18 replies

Hmmm....maybe the amount of collisions is causing some of the lag? Take the composition into editor and see if you can determine how many collisions are occurring. I know with bigger compositions that can be a factor. ....and since it's a moving composition it becomes harder to render. I recently upgraded my RAM to 16 gb and I noticed an immediate difference in graphics quality and lag issues. They recommend 8gb RAM but I think it isn't enough.....the game is playable with 4 gb (That's what I had before I upgraded) but even at the low RAM I had some serious lag. The game uses a lot of memory...with the 4gb RAM my laptop was using 100 percent of it's available memory and disk in task manager( and I had frequent crashes), with the upgrade I am now using a small fraction of it and everything is lag free. -

Just remember to back up your files before you re-install. C://program files(x86)/Steam/userdata/ (a folder with a bunch of numbers.....steam account number I think)/ 289610 the 298610 folder has all your game saves, blueprints, compositions , etc.....so that's the folder to store just in case something weird like this happens again. I keep a backup on a flash drive.....however, Bohemia has gotten pretty good lately at storing all that info in the cloud so when you reinstall ylands with that account most of the stored information should still be there. -
RESOLVED Server rental suggestion, a longshot and a prayer
spiritchaser28 posted a question in Suggestions & Feedback
This might be a longshot question..... A few months back @jchob rented a server in exploration. He named it Locust and it became a glorious experiment. The players that came there pushed the server to it's absolute limits. There were hundreds of buildings....and yes, lots of lag in places LOL My question is this Jchob missed the server rental fee by one day, and all was supposedly lost....but is it? Could it be possible the map and all it's structures is stored somewhere??? He looked everywhere in his files to find the saved game, but it was also gone so he could not restore the server and the map. So....my question is, does Bohemia have that file somewhere in the cloud? Is it possible to bring the map back to exploration? Can anybody there send the map game file (including all the buildings) to @jchob so he can bring this amazing place back? There are a few people that would be happy to contribute to the server fee if there is a way to restore that map and all of it's amazing buildings. If not....then can it be possible in the future to save these efforts? I mean....can the owner of the map can save the file just in case another calamity such as this occurs? -

are you using steam or microsoft version? With Steam it's an easy fix. Uninstall the game, log into steam and then re install it. -
POSSIBLY {Suggestion} Build mode feature
spiritchaser28 replied to JohnMFSteel's question in Suggestions & Feedback
You mean instead of holding F,G, and H to rotate while holding right mouse button correct? SImply pressing ctrl and the letter will initiate the rotation? I like it. Elegantly simple solution to a time consuming problem No more holding down keys to initiate the rotations. Perfect -
URL means user location or web address ...so I'm guessing they shortened the datalog entries to protect information? Either that or they shortened the data log entries to lessen the load time of the data? It's sort of like writing information on a computer that is accessing the web page that contains unneccesary information......so I can see why they got rid of it on the logs. It is possible this is also a way of simplifying looking at user data logs to determine an error.....it gets rid of the unnecessary info so they can just look at the information that caused the error instead of digging through miles of text. Basically though I think it is a way of simplifying as I mentioned above.....Whenever you move or do anything in Ylands....it logs it, then sends a data request to the server, which bounces back (pings) the server with an acceptance of that data. Instead of logging all the non pertinent information it just logs the changes, the location, (maybe your steam account number) and that's about it. Its a better way of saving info that is less cluttered. A URL request header as mentioned above is some useless text that only displays the "Title" of each request.....sort of like when you write an email and it wants a description in the title of the email before you send it......think of it like this.....and I may be way off here, but it would be like reading "Player steps, left" "Player steps right" player picks up mushroom"....where each player "step" is a title or header before each actual real action....and they all have timestamps so there is more data being uploaded and bounced back for each tiny move we make....So if they get rid of the part of the logs (The header with the timestamp) where "Player steps left" and can concentrate on the part where "Player picks up mushroom and game crashes" it narrows down the search for the actual problems that occur. Those are my guesses....if anybody has better guesses or an explanation I'm keen to listen.

Keep in mind using the building station and demolition hammer only works if you are on a map where you have Mayor or citizen status. If you only have visitor status it will not work.

RESOLVED [YLD-30417] Held items not showing up for other players
spiritchaser28 replied to ocnoglittle's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I saw that also during the stream. Nikki had a sword and was using it to beat a bear.....but you mentioned it looked as though she was beating the bear with her fists.....maybe it's a lag issue? On the stream it looked correct, but I think maybe in the game it can look different for certain computers....I don't know what can cause this other than lag....but it may be something else I remember watching one of Adam's streams and it seemed as though everybody had default colors for their clothes. Everybody wearing guardian armor appeared in the stream as the default green and yellow....and Yaourt was wearing a checkered suit even though he insisted he had changed the colors....the only conclusion I can fathom is lag....and now it seems this is happening with handheld items. -
RESOLVED [YLD-30427] door colour changing as you get closer
spiritchaser28 replied to IEuphe's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
It happens with a few of the wooden doors. I think it has to do with raycasting or shadows, but not sure. There's definitely a difference in the colors when you get closer to the doors. -
Flying vehicles is something that has been mentioned several times on this forum, and it has crossed the minds of several developers on the team at Bohemia. I'm pretty sure it will happen in the distant future, but I know the animations for such huge projects take a lot of time.....and to quote Ales "we won't do it until it looks good" I think the vision they have for flying vehicles is Steampunk type designs....such as zeppelins and slow moving flying vehicles like ornithopters....but first they are concentrating most of their time on exploration and making the world bigger, with customized maps, more random encounters, different creatures, etc. They are also working on expanding the crafting menu and better ways to make blueprints.....so have patience. It gets better with each update A few people have made flying vehicles in editor, and they work quite well in mini games.....Naru made an awesome little plane....but making that whole system translate easier into a large world isn't that easy according to the devs....so all we can do is wait until it's possible.

Yeah the last time I was in workshop, clicking those buttons only showed my last 10 creations...I sort of got fed up and removed all my compositions because of this. If it has changed in the last few months I may think about uploading them again....but I think we should have better tags, better editing options in the workshop itself. For example....I can only make a description of my composition in editor.....if I decide I want to change a few words, I cannot do that in workshop
-
Well that's unfortunate....but thanks for looking into it. It used to be correct but I guess Unity has it's quirks. It makes it difficult to make blueprints and place them on the ground level.....but maybe if we could freeplace them it would help? Thanks for all the other things you are doing to make this game fantastic Bohemia! And A huge thanks for answering all the other questions people asked that were skipped in the stream!

I got a new question to ask Ales. We covered the needs of people wanting to craft plastic blocks and the shapes blocks before, and I know they are working on it.....can we add totem blocks to the list of craftable items in explore? I have found a few totems but have not tried to use the demo hammer to see if I get the totem in my inventory......It would seem an easier item to craft though than the stone statues....if that makes any sense.
-
yeah that doesn't work.....maybe it's chrome?....but we all need a "something more" button
-
On a side note....you used to be able to go to the workshop and fave compositions, follow the creators....and be able to edit the pictures of all the compositions you upload.....now you can only see your last 10 uploads to edit any pics, tags, etc (can't edit the description anymore on the website) .....Compositions are all gone on the web page for searching (except your own last 10)....its very limited now as to what you can actually do in the workshop webpage. You can fave some of the mini games, edit your last 10 compositions....and that's about all you can do
-
At the very least allow us to see a bigger list of tags in editor. House, ship, pirate, steampunk, medieval, castle, cottage, etc.....I stopped uploading my compositions to workshop because I couldn't give them the proper tags. Workshop used to have a ton of different tags for compositions....now it's extremely limited so that it makes searching for specific styles a task. Tags help people narrow down their search.

RESOLVED [YLD-28592] Ship helm not moving
spiritchaser28 replied to NICO14973's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
So after some testing I found the Junk Helm and the wooden helm lost their animation....the other helms seem to turn fine. -
Maybe this could be a craftable item like the propeller pack. Butterfly wings and bird wings that fit in the backpack slot? Yeah more animation and programming would be needed....but it could look cool as a steampunk theme, They could still be mechanical like the propeller pack......just different flight durations and speeds.....I mentioned wings for flight potions, but an actual craftable wing pack would be sweet.....butterfly wing pack could have a long duration but be very low speed...bird wings could be faster but shorter durations, etc.
