    Welcome Stations

Our third welcome station is now set up. Its on a temperate island, with wolves and bears in the forests and hills to add to the thrill! What do you find at these foobar team courtesy station? Basic shelter, with 2 wicker sleeping beds, a stove, and some work stations i.e spinning weaving tanning smelting a forge and a paper press. There will be some useful items such as fishing poles .. to use and not take! There will also be some food such as cooked fish hanging somewhere. There will be plants that provide resources and food planted around , ie bananas rubber, sisal agave for cloth, bamboo... etc I also use the stations to craft new hammers spades axes and stuff.. and leave the worn but still useful ones behind in one of the containers Please do not take the lighting. it is there for the benefit of everyone passing by. Do not claim these outposts as yours and put your barrier up in them... that's not right, isn't it? if you want to be part of the foobar team ---- well there's at least 6 of us active ..more on and off. We are PVE not PVP but will defend if necessary. We only kill animals that attack us and usually avoid predator conflict to give newcomers some excitement. Attached screenshot is of the latest outpost.... we had a surplus of stone and had to show off our masonry skills! We hope for some common sense and these help outposts are not griefed/damaged or trashed ...

BI already have our email address when we registered etc..perhaps it could be that when your account is inactive a auto generated warning be sent to your email address...no response after 3 days and barrier switches off and despawns. Perhaps when a place is abandoned as such, a sign could appear outside informing looters its abandoned.

was Lord nelson playing Ylands when he prepared for the battle of Trafalgar? Puts telescope to blind eye " ships what ships? i see no ships...."
  6. My tactics are : grab food, grass stones and craft a outfit for warmth, and a mace for protection, and then a stone pick for flint, wood pieces and sticks. Keep to the shores and for the first 2 nights camp on a peninsula where you can place fires to deter predators. Make a grass sleeping mat, and a stone axe and knife. if you see any clay or iron, mine some and then assemble a raft. craft 2 basket containers and put on stern of raft, store any items in them you collected and wait until daybreak, then set out away from spawn and griefers! Look for birds Find and claim a spot on an island.... i prefer tropical ... others desert , each has its own unique predators! Choose a spot for a base... i usually select somewhere close to deep water to deploy a ship later, or even a small island.... and somewhere handy to both stone and wood bamboo ... Build a small square floor as a platform and place on the ocean side your PB... ( to protect later ships..) Construct a ramp out to your platform.... all this can be wood , and later on after you have your smelter and forge, with iron tools ( lots of hammers..they break easily!) you can deconstruct the wood parts and reuse for a ship ..and replace flooring etc with stone. Make a crossbow and saber asap ... the crossbow for long distance shots at predators from hilltops, and the saber for close in melee defense ( crossbow takes a few seconds to reload ...) Make your base secure from intruders... you can add windows etc later .. Look for tips from other posters here ... start small and secure and add extra as you progress and get more resources. If you met up with someone you can trust, share resources and work stations ..even explore together.. that way one can help defend you and even mark any tombstones with a fire to help you recover your stuff if you get eaten by a wolf/panther/puma/bear etc. before exploring and sailing craft a map ..( paper press and pencil) and have fun!

@WijkagentAdrie..... perhaps modify the barrier so instead of "fixing" .. you need a iron ingot to craft a key to switch it on ...and am meter counts down the actual ( not iw) days. Every RL week you get an alert and the barrier light turned orange ...as a warning ...and you have 2 days to use that key to re set the times, and then it goes back to glowing blue. if the barrier is not attended to after the two days it goes red ..and 2 days later despawn with the build. Another thing would be able to name your ship and link that name to your avatar to stop thieves and link the ships name to your base... so that if the base despawns, with inactivity, so does the ship. Same with rafts so they don't float around after being discarded also how about introducing new ores /minerals ... ie chalk .. for making white bricks, pigments ...and potion crafting? ....... and perhaps silver? ... for crafting silverware, plates decorations , or even personalized name plates ..( to attach to ships..or house doors) ??

    a couple map-related thoughts

@ bojo ... yes a crafted compass, required, 1 iron, 1 raw glass a needle and a hammer. ..... and when crafted it appears top right all the time ...and PLEASE make it so its easy to read at night or on a stormy sky background..
  10. Should you ever visit Baz Foobar's server, and sail west into the sunset you will eventually encounter Honey Chickens residence on "Chook Island" Now you know why my applications for employment as an interior decorator were always rejected! I might paint the roof green, so it will fit the description of "The watermelon House". There are 3 levels ... 1 and 2 contain crafting stations 3 is simply an access staircase to the tower and the level 4 is the observation deck ..illuminated to enhance navigation. The ylandium generator and lights are a recent addition courtesy of mutant leopards that wandered into the cross-hairs of my revolver sights. What next? ....umm theres always something creative that can spring to mind over a cup of coffee and a slice of chocolate mudcake.... Lets wait and see....

    How did the barrier worked?

Welcome to the reality that there are idiots on the public servers whose only aim is to steal, kill harass and destroy! The first thing you should do is find a suitable place for a base, and get your barrier working. You need iron and a hammer, and then remember to switch it on! ...i have seen several bases where there's a barrier installed but its not activated and the owner sitting next to it thinking they are safe and secure! One you ave selected a spot... put down a couple of stone blocks as a pedestal and place your barrier on it and activate it. Then as quickly as possible erect 4 walls and a roof and floor around you ... you can use a hammer later to deconstruct some panels etc for doors later on when you have the time. Then once you have a safe cube, start to build flooring and walls outside to extend the area . I prefer to extend upwards 3 stone panels and have an enclosed interior stairway with an additional lockable door. I add windows after i can craft glass. with the barrier active you can deconstruct laces to add doorways ..or to remove the original walls once the expanded walls are secure. Believe me , you will get people arriving and try your defenses... they will try to dig or break down doors and walls. Do not leave a gap anywhere. The only things i store outside my secure place is a couple of chests with stone or other stuff that's valueless. ... and yes, they will look through it seeing what they can steal. And also if someone outside begs for you to come out and give them a hand to find something, be wary. if they are a stranger, they probably have the intention of killing you and gaining entry through an open door .. you could always have 2 doors like an airlock, locking one behind you before unlocking the outside one. Does this all sound negative and off putting? Unfortunately on public servers you are going to encounter these immature kids. One big give away is when they use emotes to whistle to catch your attention ..and say "Hey, bro ..." a give away its an immature player for sure possibly out to grief
  12. Currently the ships curved hull makes it kind of fussy/messy/time consuming to add a decent superstructure. Suggestions have been made for new hull designs .. But wouldn't it be easier to implement if we could craft different stern or forepart shapes that fitted on the basic hull and flush with the deck, making the top part of the hull rectangular, or a shape more conducive to adding things? These parts would clip onto the stern or bow of the existing hull designs... and eliminate the fiddling with individual blocks etc to make a flush fitting hull deck suitable for a creative superstructure. No need for a new hull design, just the addition of 2 extra objects Now, if the devs could bring this in at 0.9 they would be love-bombed with accolades from all and sundry please everyone --- vote this suggestion up and lets have it!

One way to feed the monkey griefers... (50 banana trees on the one spot...)
  14. The Sydney zookeepers always place a banana on a desk in the rooms adjacent to the monkey cages .. that way they know if a monkey had escaped overnight...but returned to its cage. So what does a griefer do when they see a boat unattended?... they jump on it and raise the unlocked anchor ...and then find they cannot move the boat... so abandon it... but you can tell afterwards by the raised anchor "a monkey has escaped overnight" I have had four obvious griefing crews try to steal my boat ...so far, so good. They work in pairs ... use excuses of wanting to see inside my base... or could they get some grass, clay or iron..as there is none about ( There is heaps in the nearby wolf infested hills )_ You don't go outside, because the other one hiding will attack and kill you Why have they not succeeded to steal my ship so far? Well it seems my idea works ... so far so good. If you look at the screenshots you can see doors attached the side of my ship locked in a horizontal position. Also the entry to the dock has a locked door either side of the ship. They are in the range of the PB, and they prevent the ship moving out because the side doors on the ship sides cannot pass through the gap of the front doors. And to add insult to injury, around the dock entry underwater are horizontal barb wire fences, so swimming in to avoid the side walls results in a painful trap under water ( you can hear the "ouch ouch ouch ,,,," as they try..) If you are being bothered by ship thieves, try this method .. with the promise of bigger protection barrier range, you should be able to protect you flotilla. Another idea is to form a cooperative community and have someone place their PB at water level on the edge of the mooring pier to protect ships...and allow them access to share your facilities in return. Coperation and creativity works ...griefing gets you a ban

Monkey see ... monkey do ...

I do not expect it to be 100% foolproof, as you always meet a better fool.. But its fun to watch them walking around scratching their heads and armpits.... and if they do succeed, then it gives me another challenge to come up with something better

    They never grow up....

Decided to potter around PA7 for a look... the spawn area was like a university campus bar after an all night party...bodies everywhere. Found a cluster of tombstones...some with the same name and guessed predators ... yes the wolves were baying for more blood ..didn't take them on ...left them for the adventurers following After wandering around found a nice little bay with access to easy stone..and started a base only to find out i had circumnavigated the island and was almost back at spawn! NP .. just make the base extra secure and cross ones fingers .Well it didn't take long ..saw someone with a "macho" sounding name log on... later someone else arrived and asked me if they saw who griefed someone else's ship ...recently. Only 4 on line me, this person the "macho" sounding one and the guy whose ship had be "decorated". Anyway was just about to pace the final blocks to make my place secure when the macho one arrived...wielding a Sabre.. and ran towards me so i pressed No.2 on my keyboard and a Sabre popped into my hands .... and he stopped and looked ... he didn't respond to my greeting in chat and instead ran towards my base and tried to get in .. However i was following him and now in the Protective barrier field and sporting a crossbow.... he had a change of mind and cleared out. Later, after he had logged out went for a scout around... all the standing avatars at spawn had been killed. The supply of flax that was put there with a sign to borrow and replant... was all harvested and so was all the plants around spawn. I checked out the public workstaions area and again .. all been slain. So if some admins want to now who this guy is ...well i cannot prove it was him, but then there was no one else on line/around at the time ... but send me an IM ... and you can look out for him and judge for yourself. ....

    They never grow up....

yes bb that was me ... the guy ran by and i asked if he needed help... he ignored me ...and ran off... then came back a few minutes later with a club and attacked.... i was caught by surprise but stove had arrived and terminated the a-hole. I came back got my stuff, disposed of his corpse under the floor but cannot remove that tombstone ..and i now wear armour and don't offer new arrivals help anymore ... you cannot trust anybody, they ask for something and try to steal from locked chests behind you as they talk"friendly" The chicken has teeth !

    Protective barrier broken

make sure the house has a floor and leave no entry point unlocked .. the griefer idiots will try anything to ruin your game. I built my base over water, above the terrain level, You will get "one timers" who will try to break in, and if unsuccessful they squat and die on your doorstep. By being elevated like this, you can deconstruct the floor , allow the corpse to drop into the water below and spoil their idea of fun. As is said before, kids should not be allowed to use keyboards......

    They never grow up....

BB that tombstone was outside near my ship? i was alive inside.... under that tombstone there floats 2 griefer bodies.... what i did was deconstruct the floor and let them drop into the shark tank underneath then replaced the floor :-) Energritz ... all official servers are the same i am using this one to test anti griefer ideas ...so far they cannot get my ship .. the dock has doors locked and the ship side doors that open flat and lock ... to move the ship you have to unlock and open all doors , and as they are in the PB , interesting to see what they try. there already is one griefer stuck to the stern of the parked ship. crossbow bolts in the but are more than painful, as he found out.

    They never grow up....

Two of us have decided to work cooperatively on PA 7 server... we built adjoining bases and made them secure...but its a battle ... the grounds are becoming littered with idiots with the generic names who arrive, and try to club to death anyone/anything in sight, even though its "supposed" to be explore orientated. Of course what do you expect, and i am sure all the official servers are the same. I had one visitor who was not aggressive, but watched as i was attacked by 3 wolves, and then looted my corpse..... unfortunately for him the 3rd wolf he was unaware of and it got him, so i looted my loot back ..but only took what was mine. Another visitor arrived and wanted top cooperate and instead tried to steal out of my base and got worked up because all my chests were locked. He accused me of stealing al the resources and demanded i give him some ...even though there were resources a very short distance away ..i guess you get lazy avatars.. I dropped something outside my base and as he went to grab it, rushed inside and locked the doors. When he was unable to get back in and squat, he swore at me and left. kids! they should not be trusted with a keyboard. So far the bases we have set up have survived ... the PB will NOT protect you from an aggressive attack if outside your residence ..it only prevents people getting at you when offline and inside. Next stage is to mine more iron ore and place barb wire defenses around the perimeter, and stone spikes where these idiots jump onto the base. You dont trust anybody! i have to forgo the girl clothes and wear full body Armour and carry a weapon when outside. Shame we have such idiots in the world... but then if we didn't , who would run our countries?

    Sneak Peek #50

For the watermelon house.. a) find a watermelon in the game.. b) craft a knife c) put any seeds in a seed box d) craft a spare clean shirt as the one you wear will get covered in messy watermelon juice. e) build a fence around the finished building to keep grazing goats out! ..and griefers ( goats are the intelligent ones...)
  23. When you land at the spawn island there's signs all around listing the rules etc, and stating its a pve game and co operation is encouraged. No griefing stealing etc Guess what ...area is littered with corpses of new arrivals who when offline were slaughtered and looted by griefers. And then other regulars come back online and find places looted where possible and things destroyed... Well before i go offline at night i screenshot whose on line ..for the server admin to compare with saves and take action if necessary. Today one player saw someone running from his place...yes they had looted his house he was chased and he boarded a raft and tried to escape . the pursuer found some of the masts of his ship .had been destroyed The thief/griefer when corned climbed onto the ship running around trying to destroy items on the ship... but the server admin stepped in and nuked him. Well what did this idiot achieve? firstly a BI account ban from this server .and also his details and mates/assistants details passed to other server admins to add to the banning. Soon he will only be able to polay on those open servers where he will meet th same fate. Will all these warnings and banning stop these idiots ... Short answer no.!! There's no cure for stupidity..
  24. There have been instances reported of trees falling through the ground after being chopped own. Today i was using a shovel to flatten ground near a tree and it dropped through the ground.... so did another 3 nearby . I persisted and a boar ran in front of my shovel and ahe fell through the ground as well. So i did some digging and exploring and discovered a cave/void beneath the area i was leveling! That 's the explanation folks, if a tree or object disappears or drops while you are using a tool that modifies the ground surface, its most likely because there's a void somewhere underneath In my case it was the excavation of ores nearby that had been removed, and i had back filled the opening to stop people falling in! .. but there was still a void deeper down
  25. kimbuck

    trees falling through the ground

I dropped dirt into the bottom and filled the hole up , however there were branches out underneath following the vein that would not have got filled. And yes ..i have dug small holes to act as traps to catch boar rabbit etc... and for an experiment i filled the hole in with a boar in it ... the boar disappeared... obviously it fell to the center of the earth. I am sure that baz foobar can confirm the tree thing when he looks at my yland and at a test area where i covered a cavern to see and confirm what happened.... as i leveled off the surface trees dropped and i believe there actually one growing inside the cavern!
