SAs the devs use catchy names for updates... like wonderful writing... and the latest " countless colors", i wonder what the next update will be called...perhaps " Naughty NPC's "
-
They seem to have found an exploit... perhaps there should be captcha introduced for any forum posts for posters with less than 10 posts... Might be a pain for some of us but its more preferable to seeing garbage from some nutter who thinks we would bother to seek advice from him.

No sexy Call Girls, I just want more Yland Adventures

Anyway we can use the "black magic" the spammers are promoting ...to remove the spammers? -
Understood ..but its fun to toss new ideas around even if impracticable ... who knows, something might be worth considering later on. When the new version with the NPC's does arrive, will the players like me who have put considerable effort and time in a game and developing its base still be able to continue.... with all the fixes ...the only difference being no NPC's?

It looks like the spammer have learned how to reproduce ...maybe asexually. If North Korea ever wants to test the effectiveness of a nuclear weapon, these spammers have offered their country as a target, and we weep not! -

Maybe the devs could introduce them in the next update as NPC's ..... -
I made a throw away comment on another thread, but now see that it could be more to make the game last longer and even more enjoyable. The idea is to add a "New Adventure" option which is grayed out and only becomes active after you have found and visited every Yland in your game, or when a new function/upgrade is introduced that requires a new game restart. This new button would ask you to travel to your base you have established, and when ready click a button... the game would then keep and save your base island and you, with all its buildings and crafting's etc ...and then generate a new world map ... for you to discover and explore, which has all the enhancements of the updates etc. ( including new beasties ) This would mean that Ylands could become an "open ended" game, that is continually expanding and introducing new stuff... as your adventures evolve. You start as a castaway, like now with basic tools etc and eventually after say 3 new adventure restarts, you get more modern things to craft, like flight/planes rail transport....submarines etc ...and different building materials. Also new resources could be added in the advanced games/adventures as well as NPC's that could be toggled as peaceful or aggressive. Imagine having to attack hostile NPC's on an Yland to be able to invade and earn certain resources .. this would appeal to those types of players who like to kill everyone/everything Again . i stress the new adventure option becomes available only after you have explored fully your current game, or when the Developers introduce new features etc that would normally require a new game/world map. Let's vote this suggestion up - and maybe it might be adopted ... if so, I think Ylands would rapidly overtake all other similar survival games
-
With the new update with npc's, would it be possible instead of having to restart the game, that the Players Base remains as it is ...and all the surrounding old Ylands disappear and re-generated with the NPC's so the player can go exploring again to re discover new Ylands, and not lose all that's been crafted or built? If so, perhaps that option could be added to the game so that players can continue afresh after they have apparently discovered everything.

RESOLVED Tree stump ... visible/invisible yet physical
kimbuck posted a question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I attach 3 screenshots..... in the first you can see a tree stump. it is visible at a distance. Take few steps closer..and its invisible! ...step back and it re-appears! ... same effect from any angle. You can walk up to it while its invisible, yet stand on it! ... refer 3rd screenshot ..its physically still there which explains why my car did flips and turns...when traversing this area. Log files attached. output_log.txt output_log_clean.txt -

Yay! .Ghostbusters! TY -
I been digging where mine was before it disappeared .. found a rusty can, a rusty cogwheel and an old shoe. Possibly the thief got drunk and a wolf ate him. Others say they have had instances of disappearances like these and located the remains in a cavern under the area where it was last seen. I have scouted around and cannot see any evidence of a cavern near where my car was... i suspect the file that created it has become corrupted or not saved.

Cowa...whatever rocks your boat, - but do you think its fairer if you restrict your fighting etc to those servers where they expect it, and not ones where players are content to explore and create? Perhaps you should indicate on the server that your game is PvP .. that way you will attract those who are PvP orientated and would want to fight and who are similarly equipped. Then you will get an even game based on individuals skill. Those who want to explore and be creative can look for similar friendly places and leave your game alone. And all will be happy in La La Land with unicorns dancing hand in hand with cute bunnies to the sound of waterfalls under rainbows ......

RESOLVED Tree stump ... visible/invisible yet physical
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Follow up - I located where the physical/invisible stump was and managed to place some grass on it. I then took an axe and in 1st person whacked the grass and around it several times. I got the sound effects of hitting dirt..then one of hitting wood ...then dirt again Returned to 3rd person ..and saw i had created a small crater around where the invisible stump possibly was. Flattened the area with a shovel ... ran around checking etc ... invisible stump now removed! -
@gazig1 ..I am not accusing anyone, especially as there are always two sides to any story. My point is that players will note the different servers and players where griefing flourishes and will avoid them. Like i am sure now there's one MP server you are less inclined to visit anymore. Adopt the following principle .... " People make me happy, ..some as they approach me, - others as they leave...."
-
I suspect as the game comes out of early access, the options to include other items will arrive ... but i hope it does not get too gimmicky like some other games have turned into. I personally do not want to encounter "Donkey Kong" on a mountain tossing barrels down the hillside at me... or Mario tinkering with my plumbing
-
My only comment will be that public accessible MP games will become a wasteland due to new players giving up because of incidents like these. Unfortunately new players get eliminated before they get a chance to chat by some whose sole enjoyment is eliminating others.. What is happening is that players are noting names for future games when they appear on dedicated servers... and a list will circulate as who NOT to invite to participate. Also players will know which server based games to avoid due to poor moderation and trolls etc Also there's two sides to a coin. Reminds me of the story about a man accusing another of punching him in the face. The other man complained how his fist was hurt by the first man hitting it with his face... I don't know about others, but i am compiling a private list of who i would and who i would NOT invite to visit my Yland... should that option become available .. ( Ales has indicated its been discussed...)

Keralis back at it again with something awesome

Hmmm is this horse of yours ( Hoof Hearted) from the same sire/dam as my "FlumBuff" ? -
I have been noticing variations in ocean height in my mooring bay ...sometimes i can step from the ship onto the dock ..other times i need to jump up . Sometimes when docking the projections at the sides of my ship are above the dock ...on other days they foul the dock ...or below.. Then there was the time my ship did a somersault and ended up facing the other direction ..despite being moored with anchor down. Today after waking up i have found my ship had moved away from the dock..and required a jump to get aboard... the previous day it was nearly flush with the dock. Possibly a meddling seagull , but ..with the anchor down and sails down ? ...or is it just another full moon and its the tides? If its the full moon .. then i better watch out for those wolves becoming werewolves...

I was wondering if one day when on line a strange ship would arrive at you base, and you get a visit by one or more of the Devs. looking around to see how you use the game ...and possibly to glean ideas for future additions. I think it would be really cool if one day Ane or Ales sailed into my harbor and said "hi". Also perhaps it become possible to "visit" other Ylands...on invitation ... say hi look around and then return to your own Yland. To make it simple, you would arrive and return with zero inventory items. Just visiting to look and be shown around as a tourist. Any thoughts on this suggestion?

Hmm GTY ( Grand Theft Ylands!) ???? Mine disappeared too.. was parked alongside base.. and was not there when i re logged. Maybe the grid police impounded it because of the way i was driving?

@Lunaplays It has not hurt me, and I am not upset. I didn't complain then and i don't complain or care now. Why? because this was over 3 years ago and has not hurt me financially. As the site that has the stolen stuff has heaps of stuff possibly stolen from other authors, it doesn't worry me as they wont get any financial gain from me. I posted here to actually add support to others who say they are the victim of similar theft. Theft happens . It still will happen. I have better things to do with my life rather than chase after a foreign website, in a foreign language, and who probably does not understand the content of the book anyway! By the way, the book was called " Owdjabee" and was about a fictional model railroad placed into a factual situation on earth. The point of my posts here is ' Sh..T happens, and there's always someone who will want to profit from your hard work'. Meanwhile i have retired, and am enjoying "ylands" ... the sharks here are more friendly and fun

What makes Ylands so enjoyable is that it is different ...and not following the paths so many of the Mass "produced run of the mill" almost identical games now flooding the market. What puts me off a of of games is once you start, you have to "buy" extras in order to advance.. ..and you are constantly reminded to "spend spend spend" on just the basic stuff to progress. Ylands does a have a market, but the objects "sold" are simply for your visual enjoyment and not having any direct effect on how the game or you advances. In other words, its optional. Some time external marketing can be counter productive

RESOLVED Tall buildings not being able to place
kimbuck replied to YMonkey's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
This has been reported and discussed and a solution is most likely being devised, but a work around seems to be at the moment to "pick"something up first.. Regarding the big sail ... it has to be within the "limits" of the ship, so has to be in contact with the deck and not objects placed on another layer above the deck. Regarding fitting the mast, it can be a "cow of a task" and finding a place for you and it on the deck at the same time can be tricky. Check some other topics about the ships and you will see some suggestions etc. -
I built my harbor from reclaimed soil after excavating into a hillside for a level area for my base. I chose a spot that had deep water with shoals either side ..and built up the shoals into reclaimed land for my base and to plant survival crops ie rubber and food and flax /banana/ corn plantations. If the area of reclaimed land is big enough, it shows as a brown area on your map and you can readily identify where your base is. I have refined this to the stage when needing to return home .i plot a straight line using the the compass from my position to my base... point the ship there and let her go! Have a cup of coffee while you steam/sail home. I have lights at the entry points to my harbor, and my next planned stage is to have wind power generation to illuminate the the dock and set up navigation/guidance lights. Eventually i will have the entire foreshore planted with attractive flora and roads etc fitted with lighting. Will discourage rampaging bears at night

My publisher was in the UK .. these thieves from turkey obviously copied the book and reposted it on a server in their country which has no regard of the laws. In order to see what they have on their site, you have to pay a 'registration" fee.. this is akin to blackmail. I am sure if i pay the fee i will find just 'clickbait" and a few tags linking to excerpts from my book ...enough to create a google search result ..and they will have got money out of me. In order to get Google to investigate, i needed to see whats on that site, and i am not going to give them ( the thieves) money to access their site and find out ... that's the aim of their website... not to earn money from the stolen books but to get money from the authors seeking to see what may have been stolen. Oh .... and my work was being used by educators in the UK and Aust as reading material for young students learning English... (it was 100% PG rated, humorous and contained no obscenities..) my only reward was knowing that young kids were being encouraged to learn to read proper English ( If you consider the Aussie accent as "English")
