RESOLVED Multiple server maintenance shutdowns destroying this game
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Tried to re join game at 9:00am my time - wait of 7 minutes while the wheel of misfortune slowly turned ... got in at 9:07am 10:00 am my time yup you guessed it "server maintenance shutdown" ..... computer hung for 5 minutes before that message appeared Log attached . expect more. Note 2 players told me they are sick of his and left the game . another one posted in discord their displeasure and were looking elsewhere. A player in game complained also ... was asked to put in logs but they are so frustrated they don't bother anymore .. they simply go elsewhere. I suspect a lot of other players do the same. output_log.txt output_log_clean.txt -
I say this after 7 un-announced server maintenance shutdowns in one hour, requiring a 5 to 8 minute wait to get back in after " backend" or "unspecified" errors and waiting in a join queue. No sooner than you manage to tidy things up to where you were before the (crash)-shutdown" ...... boom .... down it goes again " server maintenance". When I logged out in disgust today the server was full of complaining players ...and they were giving up on MP hoping 1.5 brings a miracle . I doubt 1.5 will, based on past promises ... but gee wizz - we getting some more pretty bird like predators ... apparently they are more important than game fixes. Another issue is it is soo laggy with ships ...there's sound loops ..stuttering and it takes ages to get to an island in sight ..and then you get a " AFK warning" ..if you don't stop, and release controls move around ... you get disconnected for being afk too long! Ok ok ok ..i know the response " send in the logs.." But to quote monty python "I am NOT a Lumberjack and i am NOT ok" i sent in so many logs ...so have others ... we talk between ourselves about the response and we all get none.. From what i heard today ...don't be surprised at a swarm of negative reviews on steam. I have stayed with Ylands because of the dedication and enthusiasm from the P! group and Red Eagles attempt to get a functional game working. My enthusiasm ..and that of many others ... is waning..

1.5 update won't bring real change unless...
kimbuck replied to RedEagle_P1.'s topic in General Discussion
You're kidding, I hope. I can't tell you the number of reports and logs I personally have sent. @RedEagle_P1. absolutely has. Back when he was having issues with server death regularly, he offered BI access to the P1 servers to see what was actually going on. This is why i have stopped bothering to send in logs etc , I feel like i am whistling into the wind. I have been asked to send in logs recently , but how? if i cannot get into a game because it says incorrectly "server is full", how can i get the log ? Over and out ! -
1.5 update won't bring real change unless...
kimbuck replied to RedEagle_P1.'s topic in General Discussion
The new map proposal .... ok it looks good ...but will it be like the current situation..... that is the same every game , with resources biomes etc always in the same position? That is what is killing the existing game ... there's no exploration. Play it once and you know where everything is, where the resources are, and then exploit them first so no one else can use them. The beauty of the original game was trying to find the places ... they were different and random, and the caves were a real challenge for those who wanted to explore them., The resources (iron etc) were always surface veins so those who chose not to go into the caves could still get material to craft. And some of the random caves in the original games were simply breathtaking. The new map will be great...if its new MAPS ( note the plural) ...otherwise it will just be the same style game dressed up in frilly clothes and eventually produce the same boring result. I like Ylands ... especially ..the original concept.... and, like Red Eagle, and others i would love to see it succeed. But it has to be more than a collection of mobile games and anime style actions as used by kids to amuse themselves for a few minutes. Explore means more than kung-fu jumps and running around waving swords that make sparkles and sounds... -
Consider turning this ship around
kimbuck replied to RedEagle_P1.'s question in Suggestions & Feedback
For the last few months i have been on Red's P1 servers...because his modded games are close to what we expected Ylands to become. A lot of hard work has been put in by him and soem dedicated workers testing and adding improvements that the game really needs. On these servers we have some form of control over visiting "kidiots" whose only knowledge of crafting is "punch anything".... and the simple entry procedure was an excellent simple intelligence test which saw 90% fail to understand ... ? On red's servers there's portability between them, and you did not lose your progress after wipes were needed.... and there were mods who tried to ensure ores etc were replenished and lag producing abandoned structures could be cleaned up. It was kind of successful ... servers went for over a month before needing a wipe ..even though all the hard work was often spoiled by un-announced "server maintenance" shutdowns every 90 or so minutes that screwed up ones inventory on re-log ..provided you could avid "back end errors" and other "unexplained" errors" We learned to live with these mysterious BI interruptions ...and used the enforced breaks for "comfort stops"? or to replenish coffee cup contents while we watched the hamster wheel slowly indicate that we were crawling back into the game.. Servers appeared to be "full" - but discussions in Discord with players in game indicated only one or two players were on line... and even if the server was vacant you got into a "join queue" behind non existent players..! But we persisted... it was "no DLC" so anyone could join in... and often our amusement was watching new arrivals and predicting with 100% accuracy which ship they would try to steal, or animal to kill, or building to try to break into. There was always the promise of " bigger..better...etc " next update, so we held our breath, going blue in the face in anticipation. And it arrived ----- and as usual it broke a lot and undid all Red's hard work. 1.4 added lots of new things and didn't fix lots of old things ..and added " little kid pleasing" improvements aimed to please everyone who likes anime, kung fu jumps and such ... ...and ignored the regular players who were repeating over and over what was really needed to be fixed and what the real players wanted.... 1.4 did not live up to the hype. lets be frank and honest here... after the update, Chat was full of disappointed players saying " stuff this !!!!!!!! .. lets go elsewhere " ..and again more friends simply walked away from Ylands. Old players who returned with excitement of the "new updates" soon did a U-turn. A couple of us then decided to go to a new private server of red's which required the DLC. This had the effect of weeding out the "kidiots" with throwaway names full of random numbers letters or rude words. We had a short enjoyable time collaborating and being creative. ......... But , it was stock standard Ylands explore..and rapidly became B-o-r-i-n-g! - The same islands in sight of each other, with resources in the same area (yawn) ...been there done that ... nothing to explore, really ..we knew from previous games where everything was.☹️ Will the 1.5 fixes heralded bring people back? Well if it doesn't show that BI/Yalnds has listened to the pleading of its dwindling base of supporters " to bring back what the players have been asking for," ...then there's always other games that work! -
RESOLVED P1 Servers Not Working Properly
kimbuck replied to RedEagle_P1.'s question in Bugs & Technical Issues
recently there have been very and i mean very frequent "server maintenance" shutdowns, ..no warning and after a 5 minute snail pace rejoin in time ... server performance is the same. - Also, when running around and you hit a barrier edge , its like hitting a brick wall...you even hear a "thud" sound and you need to wait about 3 seconds or try to pass through the barrier at an angle. -
I have been lurking and playing Ylands..and \sadly its becoming too repetitive...... the updates are novel but don't do much really So theres an Update... you go in and the maps look the same ... same islands, same places , and you know where the resources are... and you don't need a lag inducing boat .. just swim or make a raft. Head for the island you know where there will be iron... find it and take the lot ... if someones beat to you to it then the games useless, you cannot progress, so log out until next time there's an update and a new start. Hide any surplus iron you cannot carry and then head to the biome you know where there is coal ... get there, set up a base, plunder all the coal and therefore stop any other players progress. Go back and collect your surplus hidden iron, and then make the necessary work stations and tools etc to lock things up and fight off predators. Make an upper deck boat, fit two baskets and travel to the other islands you know that have other resources ... again, plunder the lot . Come back to base, pretty it up ..and then the games virtually finished until the next update, when you start again, rinse and repeat. Of course, there are now undersea mysteries and npc's and other things, but as you have succeeded in making the multiplayer game unplayable for others, you have the entire world to yourself ..others wont bother to come in, unless to grief. So that's about it . Of course if you are a creator there's the editor ... but not everyone wants that. And what are you creating for? Bring back the many islands randomly placed, the birds to watch to navigate ...also the random caves ... the current ones are predictable in design and whats in them and where. Ride-able animals? ... they be . novelties ..etc ... but wheres the game heading? And as far as mini games go , that's not what i downloaded ylands to play .. you can get similar stuff on other app sites.. Ahhhh well ... I will watch and hope ..

Ty Igor ... but the point i am trying to make is that the game has changed form the original ..its no longer explore, but exploit. You know before the start where things will be and the smarter players will tie up all the essential resources effectively making play by late arrivals useless because they cannot get resources to advance. You know where the islands will be and what will be on them The caves are no longer mysterious... like the original, but now much the same. Theres no adventure in sailing ... just now there are underwater treasures... but useless if others beat you to them You cannot advance without certain resources ..on my current mp game there were no carrots! so i couldn't fashion horse bait . Another player said they found them in an underwater wreck - oh really? Basically the game is getting too much same-ness ..islands the same .. npc's the same .... ores the same places ... its no longer explore. And now we going to get ...banana and corn guns? (sighe) my excitement cannot be contained ... i rather have a functional explore MP game. A new player in MP games with no experience will soon give up ...i see many of my former Friends in Ylands already have. Please ..bring back the random-ness and adventure that it used to have.

RESOLVED [YLD-22344] Can cut indestructible tree with saw
kimbuck replied to RedEagle_P1.'s question in Bugs & Technical Issues
This was reported as an exploit when Ane was community manager - and a couple of times later last year. We had a griefer denude an entire island with this exploit. -
This is a repost in a new topic as suggested by Adam . Today was like another charlie chaplin movie .. screen freezes and re starts I got my ship built and tried sailing... whenever it was near land it was uncontrollable .. the screen kept freezing and when release i was either heading to shore or out to sea... then ship went into a series of slide show images showing either no ship, just the wake , bits of the ship ..or a part assembled ship ..or just me with my bottom skimming the waves. Then Ylands did a perfect impression of a dead goldfish .... belly up! Was locked on the log out screen for 5 minutes as the wheel of misfortune slowly turned. I managed to log back in to find myself on the ship full sail towards the end of the world ... did a 180 turn and eventually mad it back to my island... but as soon as i could see the shore, screen once again went into freezing fits. Managed to coax it towards dock on half sail then hit reverse .. screen froze .. got the sailing back noise and when scree became active i was halfway up the beach .. but going backwards... fortunately into deep water. Given up for a while ... just toooooooooooo frustrating. Logs and one screenshot attached output_log.txt output_log_clean.txt

Turns better since i revised it a little ...i widened the superstructure and fitted 2 extra engines... not as fast as the catamaran but more stylish than a raft..besides there's sleeping and storage under deck
-
i had the same experience ... had 20 attempts before i succeeded. Make sure the build is "welded" and certain things cannot be blueprinted... like furniture and barrels and stuff basically its anything that cannot be crafted that will not blueprint. you have to sometimes move the ship .. or take your blueprint from different angles... eventually one will work! But whats the magic formula? simply trial and error until it works .. and don't ask me what it is ....... i persisted from various angles etc until i was at near wits end then suddenly "poof" it worked. Good Luck!
-
Hold onto your suspenders! The "BS Tomato" sails again ...... after much cursing and i don't know what it suddenly decided to become a blueprint .... so you will see it in game ... be afraid ...be very, very afraid !! And for the record it was NOT crafted in editor! and the bow area drove me crazy rotating blocks to fit! But then, you have to be at least a bit crazy to be here
-
Despite a small griefing attempt, my base has not only survived but thrived. Here's hoping the server can hold itself together for longer.
-
This has become a griefer tactic. We are getting griefers who don't like being identified as griefers when caught, bringing in their alts and placing around the boundaries of the bases of other layers huge blueprint buildings that consume massive amounts of rare resources and then leave never to return. The incomplete buildings block harbors and surround peoples homes. And they cannot be removed in game. It could be possible to complete the building, then demolish it, but sometimes the alt drops a barrier to prevent that. Maybe a construction / percentage time limit be applied to blueprints? ----- if its not more than 50% completed after a certain number of days , the table shuts down ( with a warning) , blueprint goes, and the used resources dropped ?. Perhaps in a "loot chest" the blueprint owner could return and claim if they return to the game...? Also perhaps when a player's account is banned by admins, the players buildings etc get automatically removed from the game>? We have lag inducing ships constructed from stolen material by griefers ( who have been caught and banned) sitting around blocking and just being an eyesore... some still in construction mode and also protected by the Pb of that banned player.
-
The new game play has dampened even more my enthusiasm No longer do you need to be creative and make a impressive base...because after a day or two the server falls over - overloaded with bodies and depleted of resources You have to waste time to make your base griefer proof .( they steal plants and kill horses etc..) If you are not the first on at the start of a new game/map .. you may as well give up as previous players have already taken everything you need to advance from the starter island ... stones, flint sticks food items ..If you are lucky and can get off spawn ... don't bother with a base .. the game in its present state will be dead and crashing in a day or so . so what to do ? build a boat ...put all the basic workstations on it ie smelter forge stove spinning weaving and tanning ...thats all you need to make survival items ( swords weapons armor fishing stuff etc) Find a remote island with a near vertical cliff...put your pb there...and each time you want to leave the game, return there to log out. Put a stone or wooden fence around your ship to stop others taking it ( they cannot remove the walls etc) and when you come back to the game ( if it has not crashed,,,) use a demolition hammer to make an exit..... and expect to start all over again in another day ... and if that frustrates you ( it soon will! ) ...look through steam for something else to do

the game has changed - dont bother building a base
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
Fell over as in crash and not because as you put it "too much to handle after you and your friends built on it" servers do crash --- i have heard of it before ..its happens a lot and not just for Ylands. its a fact of the internet. As far as "too much to handle" ... if you are insinuating we made elaborate mega buildings allover the place... then you assume wrong.. especially as there's not enough available resources to do so when starting out. A time line : 1) players arrive, grab basics and scatter a out around the map ..( building on spawn is a waste as theres not enough there ..) 2) players start to find some resources and manage to start on a base and some form of sea transport. From the very arrival / start, there's reports of game freezes, 3) after about a few hours the the game suddenly just dumps everyone out. . no warning. Most have only just got past the basic construction of the start of a base. 4) Try to rejoin ..... find the game in MP lobby and click to join ... instead end up on some public server full of lag with lots of lifeless abandoned avatars ..and with nothing in your inventory ... 5) Game creator/manager comes in and finds the same ...tries to resurrect the old fame ..its gone !! poof! after a while of hunting, gives up and starts a new game. 6) go back to 1) and repeat the process 4 times in 24 hours. So knowing that the game will not last long, best to immediately build a boat, put / guild your stuff on it and cruise around to explore, Find a place where you can park it when offline with a protection barrier covering it If you can blueprint your ship, that would be better. The game is not the same now as it was originally touted, -
I am tired of restarting from nothing every 2nd day. especially after putting alot of hard work into trying to play the game I have been looking for pvte locked servers and after some tiresome hunting on resource depleted spawn, i sometimes make it to an nearby island to be able to craft basics to survive... then sail on a raft to a place to establish.workstations and craft safely Other friendly players work with me ...we co operate... then we start collecting the hard to find resources and slowly make our houses etc griefer resistant and craft suitable weapons to explore etc And then what happens? The BI owned servers that are being rented shut down with no explanation... (once it was for maintenance and a hotfix and we were warned) other times we find out when the hamster wheel of failure appears on the screen But.. when we log back in .. the game has reset ..and we are all back on spawn ..with just a barrier and none of the stuff we had crafted. We cannot check to see if our bases are still there as spawn now has nothing to craft a raft etc from... and even so , we have no keys to access our base , if its still there This has happened to me 4 times now since the marvellous "out of ea" update. Whats the use of trying to play a game where you cannot progress? .. its not the players fault ...we don't shut down the server and reset it. Do you want us to stay with Ylands and play the game ? or are we being pushed out so they can concentrate of the playlands stuff? Multiplayer explore is not worth it now. Some have told me directly they will not get the DLC explore as they heart too many negative reports. Players get annoyed with a game which suffers rubber banding, intermittent freezing and crashes and constant being forced to restart, . I have spent a lot of time reporting and sending in crash logs ... i do every time i play! .... and the result? little has changed. This game should not have come out of early access until they can at least get it working... not just the playlands stuff but ALL the aspects of the game. After today's server shut down and stuff up if am on the verge of flushing ylands down the toilet. It is NOT an enjoyable game anymore.

Island Biome Suggestion - Corrupted Yland
kimbuck replied to JeremiahKane's question in Suggestions & Feedback
before they add anything new , may we suggest they fix what they already have.? -
WHY? Do they want us to play Ylands or not?
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
Ok a beggar for punishment! Locate a server that's locked to keep out griefers...... the person in charge is known and trusted ... he lets me in Spawn has been depleted and also partly denuded ... so i set up a base and with the person in charge's permission and help, we fix it up and make the game more playable ( ie chests with resources for beginners) All is working smooth and sweet, flora and fauna thriving ... players arrive and start to re build. However we encounter several freezing episodes where the game either locks up ...or screen goes pale blue and we get dumped out Going back through MP lobby we find the game and resume ..and all seems ok Regulars arrive back and continue trying to progress, some annoyed at the constant resets, but persisting then the inevitable happens ... yes .. the blue screen and hamster wheel of death this is in less than half a day of operation, and with only 6 max players on line so we try to get back ...we see the server name in MP lobby and click to join.... where do we end up? on a public access server that's all mixed up and obviously glitching ..and we all have nothing in inventory but the pb ...and we appear to be falling in space.. so we log out and try again ...same thing ... the original server name we were on is till there but we get tossed back to this glitched public server. so now you got more players rather mad at what you are offering as a MP explore game that honesty is now a disaster...its not working ! Its broken! Its like monty python's dead parrot! And it not just me saying it. Its happened now 4 times with me and the other 7 players from each crashed game are just as frustrated as i am and some of their comments are not nice. ---- Justifiably so too considering whats happening thats at least 32 dedicated players who are angry. Please listen to RedEagle ..and also your customer base ... the latter is shrinking The game is not ready for release from EA if you don't like these comments ------ these are honest comments, made in an attempt to see something done that will resurrect a once good game which initially had promise. -
the game has changed - dont bother building a base
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
ZhakyDK ...We have tried that ... we had a Pvte run pw protected server ..and it fell over after a day. All the work and construction went out the window. And thats not the first time its happened. Multiplayer game seems to have some functionality flaws ... we get game freezes , other recurring bugs .. and when you get kicked offline by some form of crash, theres no guarantee you can get back to where you were..or to the same game. Griefers are only part of the problem - the main one seems to be the stability of the multiplayer game ... -
How to remove the bodies of dead players on a dedicated server?

How to remove the bodies of dead players on a dedicated server?
kimbuck replied to Aseru's topic in General Discussion
i build over water so i can deconstruct the ground / floor under them and dump them in the water ....or i bury them ;when no ones looking ? -
The P1 gaming servers are currently overrun with players ..but sadly most are there just to cause trouble grief and be a nuisance When players advance beyond the stone age they dump there stuff usually near any workstations .. and then rush around seeing what they can steal or ruin So what you do is put behind your barrier 3 or 4 chests ...all but one locked ... and in the unlocked one put all the rubbish you don't need , ie grass corn notecards etc And it never fails ...along comes a griefer/trouble maker and finds one unlocked and takes all the contents ... then runs off somewhere to either die or dump it in the ocean or whatever They think they are smart ..... haha..... but really, you are just using them to Take away your trash.
