The running into and "climbing" trees. ..it mainly happens if you are moving quickly and downhill... i ran down hill towards a clump of bamboo... next thing i was in the air and then fell to earth losing 2 health hearts ... sometimes when trying to negotiate stairs sometimes you get blocked if facing straight ahead.. ( run on the spot ) .... you have to approach and negotiate them at an angle. Still getting flying sharks ..... i found if you leave them alone they sometimes slip off the ship sides.... and if you leave your ship with sails down and anchor down ... after a while the shark "goes away" ...better than killing it and having your boat capsizing!

    0.6: Countless Colors (16/11/2017)

With the avatar movement changes...its rather difficult to "aim" with the tool you are using.... if you are not careful with your axe or hammer, the nearby walls or objects might get accidentally destroyed instead of what you are aiming at. Also encountered a small temporary glitch when putting things in a cabinet... if you are not accurate and place the item near the border of the compartment, it can glitch ..and affects all other items you try to move in that cabinet. I found that by taking everything out, dropping them, then re logging from main menu fixed it .. i could then pick the items up and return them correctly to the cabinet. Overall, the changes on this update are positive it might be my imagination but the colors of objects seem to be brighter. every tome i log in i find more craft-able items in my inventory...

Yes! what a relief...my knuckles were getting sore Yes ...i knew that .. everything started to work properly after a log out and re log ...maybe there was something queued to update. Now ...wondering how to craft a belt drive ...tried leather rope .. will work it out soon. But pleased in my exploration today i found one yland with abundant saltpeter ..and the next had a mountain peak of sulphur! ... bought back 800 units ... ( and an shark) and now have enough ingredients to destroy the world ... now wheres that chemistry station?? (evil snicker)

Thanks... Tried to light the charcoal kiln ... the lighter wouldn't show any interaction. tried to feed it ... zero .. Guess i have to play around trial and error style until i either find out how .. or simply abandon a great game and start again form zero .. which i am reluctant to do. We need more instructions....

    0.6: Countless Colors (16/11/2017)

New update has changed the game entirely... i now have lots of redundant workstations ...cannot find new ones ,..and have difficulty interacting with others... ie cannot feed them or light them. Is there anywhere where we can get information about the new crafting procedures? I know there's a new station feeding interaction thing , but where, how and ??? currently i cannot light any forge/foundry/etc .. do i have to destroy the old redundant stations first? Are the old saved games not able to be ?modernized" with the new stuff? Do we now have to dump a weeks work and exploration ..and start a new game? I tried google search and the ylands wiki ... but turn up nothing helpful..
  6. I cannot get an interactions window with the stone masons station...also the woodworking bench. I have tried the others ( smelter...blacksmith, foundry etc ) and they seem to work, but with the stone masons station all i can do is punch it or walk on it!

it appears some workstations are no longer being used ie stonemasons... will we get a list of redundant work stations we can remove? Now a chemistry station required for making gunpowder? cannot find any reference to crafting it just yet... any hints ?

    0.6 bugs

Here are things i encountered after the update. 1) running into some objects causes you to either "climb" the object or get tossed into the air. Walking up stairs becomes difficult. you tend to float and end up above the level you intend to be at I enclose some screenshots showing my avatar hovering at strange heights after "colliding" with an object. 2) movement has changed.. before pressing "s" key you would step back, now instead you turn around...also when digging, you tend to dig offset to your left side not in the direction you are facing. 3) Erratic ship behavior due to unintended interaction with sharks, birds etc. My ship stalled and would not turn ...in fact it started to turn opposite to what i was commanding .. investigation revealed several sharks "stuck" in the keel and were obviously affecting movement ...see screenshot. It also happened when a seagull got trapped inside the cabin area near the helm .. the ship was uncontrollable until it turned sufficiently for the seagull to escape 4) Collision of ship with seagulls and vultures ...a vulture flew into the cabin area of the ship and when it hit the side walls on the inside, the ship tilted nearly 45 degrees.... fortunately the vulture then managed to fly out and the ship righted itself. Another time a head on collision with a low flying vulture saw the ship stop and was turning uncontrollably until the vulture passed by to the stern and flew away 5) was too quick to catch a screenshot, but a shark dropped from the sky onto the deck between the middle mast and and the helm ... it bounced twice then slid over the side .. the ship went crazy while this happened. first 4 screenshots show the avatar height issue. 5th one shows the sharks under hull causing loss of ship control

Also i note that the avatar hover height is higher on some surfaces ...my avatar floats up stairs and mostly ends up standing on the railings. Also seems to hover after moving off a path onto a path one block thickness lower down. Will try to screen shot it after i can log in after the severe thunderstorms sweeping the area here pass by.

still finding land sharks and "gas filled" sharks floating in trees -also a couple of times i ran into a tree and ran up the trunk ..only to fall when trying to get back to the ground ..and landed heavily and suffered health damage. Also could not berth ship in my dock as there were 4 sharks stuck in the keel! ..and they were fouling the land and the sides of my dock under my ship. However, leaving sails down and no ship movement for 5 minutes the sharks eventually "dropped off".
  13. Hmmm ... need to look into it :-) hard to teach an old dog new tricks , but it will wag its tail if offered a treat Thanx

    Thoughts on sailing,while sailing

We can have fun coloring the parrot with countless colors!! I solved the landing issue by having a set of stairs on my ship facing towards the bow, with a sea level platform. I can nudge my ship close to shore where there are shoals .. then use dirt to build a causeway to the shoreline. I then place some Stone panels as a gangplank from the causeway to the ship bow platform...and place on the end of the gangplank a lantern. Would be great to be able to build a wider ship ... like an aircraft carrier, which could become a floating base.... with room for smelters, etc currently drinking coffee waiting for chance to see new upgrades in action. Hopefully will not see more flying pigs ... one ran away from me and climbed a tree.. and then launched into space to land about 100 meters from me - i missed the screenshot as i was laughing too much!

Whoooopie! ...currently having my breakfast, but when finished and with 2 days of forecast rainy weather here, will be into Ylands and not able to be distracted ...except if someone brings me coffee and chocolate biscuits.....

For our protection, Ylands is now providing shark escorts No need to worry about aggressive seagulls any more

    some survival tips for newbies

I you have access to bamboo... make bamboo storage chests to use as barriers around the edge of you ship . Bamboo chests do not require iron/nails to craft and will help to stop you accidentally falling over the side if you push the wrong key. If you put a brazier on board near the helm , it will keep you warm but make a stone fireplace to cover it so you can light it. You cannot light an outside fire in snow/rain etc, so it pays to light the brazier in advance.. it will stay alight providing light and warmth except in the severest storms. When visiting other islands, always take a sample of the flora available to replant on your home base island... Some of the items might be useful in Alchemy. If you get a aggressive shark and it "sticks" into the side of your ships hull, try sailing in circles .. the shark will "rotate" and in some cases slip off an away. Killing a shark embedded in your ships hull will see the ship become de-stabilised ... and can even get stuck on shoals etc... so only kill embedded sharks where its safe to recover you ship easily .. ( make sure anchor is down). If you have an area to mine rock/marble, construct several stone masons crafting stations adjacent... that way you can make items while still digging. I take some dirt, stone panels and logs with me on my ship... and have a staircase and platform at the side of my ship facing the bow. That way it easy to nudge you ship close to land near a shoal, and then build a dirt causeway to land... with a couple of stone panels as a bridge to you ship. Dont place the stone panels where they could foul your ships structure if you need to "back out" Smile a lot .. those sharks are really friendly
  18. My first go at ylands gave me the impression of " well, its passable , looks like fun...lets see where it goes"... but i soon got hooked! Now we have weather. So your first priority now is to build shelter... those lightning bolts look dangerous! Also now, your fire will not stay alight if its out in the rain... no fire ..no light ...and there's wolves etc outdoor! I had one sitting alongside my camp watching me..waiting for daylight. Luckily i had crafted a wooden spear and survived. When you try to sleep, you cannot if there's danger... you get the message "not safe to sleep here". The danger can be from sleeping in a iron bed near an window during a storm ., that lightning looks scary!. Or there could be a ferocious animal nearby... well not quite..i have been woken up by rabbits coming in through under a wire gate...and once i was woken and couldn't sleep ...until i found a crab hiding under my bed. ( crab meat was delicious! ... it helps you sleep too :-) ) Ahh these ylands developers .. they sure have some humor! My current challenge is a goat that has strayed onto my ship and camped near the helm . making it difficult to operate the ship. It wont leave..i have tried using hay to entice it off the ship .. with no success. looks like i might have to resort to more drastic measures and provide a goat skin for my tanning rack. Oh and here's a hint ..if you craft a crossbow and crossbow bolts, don't carry all your ammo with you. I have a spare crossbow and some bolts in storage (with a spear) that i can retrieve from my camp should i get mauled by a wolf/puma/bear/leopard etc. After respawning, I can race back to my camp and re-arm with a crossbow or other long range weapon and after locating my corpse, deal with the nasty beast from a distance, if its waiting nearby for another go at you. Sharks don't like stone panels, it seems they will follow but unlike woden floors they have not yet penetrated one...and also i notice the sharks will harass you if you are carrying meat on yourself or in a container on your boat.. and usually attack when you release the controls to eat or consult your map. The latest addition of having to re-load the fires etc in the smelters and forges is another great touch ... makes the game more interesting I wonder what else they developers have planned? Their sneak peeks are intriguing... another tip ..place a spear and some flints and wood pieces and an axe in a container adjacent to or re-spawn location ;-)
  19. Ok lost a fight with a pack of wolves...after respawn tried to locate my ship loaded with weapons etc...and found parts of the yland missing... the water is missing in some places..and the terrain in other... log file attached. also screenshots of 'what i saw" .... output_log.txt
  20. also ..i killed a wolf in the first melee .... cam across its corpse and tried to gut it but instead action was of hitting it with knife..... wolf corpse them made attacking noises jumped up ..died "again" ..and corpse sank beneath the earth! what a day ..but then its a game and its fun although sometimes frustrating
  21. additional information... i was unable to pick things up until after a re-log, and any boxes.crates etc i opened only opened part way and showed no contents. logging out ...screen hung at "saving" ...and when re logged, game opened at about 20 seconds before where i was when i logged out .. and inventory still contained the things i had earlier put away in storage boxes

    Dev Diary #20

Don't worry about "making mistakes" ... my father told me someone who doesn't make mistakes is obviously not doing anything! A;though i am not a com outer type person, i have worked in areas where large databases were developed, and seen the time, effort, frustration and rewards that go with writing programs, and then fixing them! Ylands is a great game, and is developing. it can be frustrating sometimes when a certain bug appears, bt we know that behind the scenes you all are working on fixing things, and also bringing in new things. Looking forward to the update (s)
  23. It started after two sharks jumped aboard my large ship ...and i managed to kill them however as they "died" and turned over, they caused the ship to sink at the stern and a third shark made a meal of me. I respawned on the beach and could see my ship with the dead sharks floating in the air above the deck, however when i tried to move i sank into the ground and fell down through a network of unexplored underground caverns ..a long way down...and then died. Respawning again, same issue no matter which way i tried to move ..or even jump. re logging did not help. After 5 attempts i gave up and am starting a new game. Which is a shame as the current game was really interesting and a weeks work of crafting and exploring. Also a couple of times when releasing controls of the ship, my avatar jumped and got stuck in the cabin roof ..had to use fist to smash the roof panels around me to release my avataar would be nice to have a previous save logon feature .
  24. I think i solved it .. ! My Other half watching here pointed out earlier the message by ane to john... to set ThreadedColliderCooking .. to fix the issue - that had been done but looking through my log he noticed that when i entered that command... i left off the colon between ...Cooking and the zero! ( adjusts glasses and squints...) Thats the problem ??? Will see how things go now ...cannot rewind back bu can rebuild. While searching for lost corpse, before giving p on search I found a vein of Gold! yay!
  25. What a day! i managed after respawn to get back to my ship ... and decided to return to base and re-arm and come back and locate my corpse with its belongings/inventory . With no map, and seagulls just as lost as i was..it took 3 hours(!) sailing around dodging sharks storms and avoiding uncharted shoals...eventually, with some luck, i found my base! So ..i restocked boat with food ( i used 90% of stores on boat trying to find home) and re-armed myself and crafted a new map, i then returned to the place of my underground demise. Despite searching caverns, dodging monsters and other strange noisy things... i could not locate my corpse with all those inventory items. And I had over 100 crossbow bolts too when i disappeared beneath the soil...luckily i left my revolver and 10 bullets home I checked every cavern branch under where i fell through. Nothing! So, giving up on that idea... will try and gather some more resources from that yland and heading home... hoping it doesn't happen again. I noticed that this sinking/stuck issue occurs when you are carrying ores, stone or dirt.. could it be linked to that earlier issue about avatars falling through stacked items? Going to give Ylands a rest for a day or two ...as this issue is so frustrating. I Hope the next update makes things better, as i would like to progress further into the game without being terminated! It gets boring having to restart over and over... Fighting bears and pumas, panthers wolves etc and to die then respawning, or winning a battle are part of the game... but random acts of earth swallowing ruining progress?? I nearly gave up today from frustration, especially as i have spent several days preparing for the next phase of progress
