How do you make your ship sails different colors?

You can make them a handful of colors when you are crafting them.

When placing the sail you can "switch item variant" with 'R' and 'T'

This will alter the color.

I think the paintgun dyes the sails AND the mast all the same colour. Admittedly i haven't tested much, but this was what i found when i tried it..

I’m sure on most objects you have several options with which parts you can paint. You just have to select the right part with the radial menu or using the hot keys before painting

Yes unfortunately if you have already placed the masts then you will have to use the Paintgun and choose number 1 I think to paint just the sails.
