ship hull improvements an easy fix/addition?

yes the basic hull would remain the same ...just these "bits" would clip on instead of the existing bow/stern.... why not also add a craft-able wheelhouse or cabin ? No change of the existing hull design needed ..... just add-ons that "fit" the existing shapes to make the deck sides parallel and easier to build on Looks at ane and ales and batts eyelids.... " pwetty pweas with sugar on top? " -

i tried to blast a bay by placing kegs on small rafts floating in the shallows.... it kinda worked but the water went crazy and the other areas around it became dry land that slooshed under you feet, and where sharks could fly across and attack you! at least i helped with a supply of fish meat.. The resultant bay was not a success... the water in the area around it was of a different height... looked awful and the ships wold get stuck on pinnacles/ bit of soil etc that were minuscule and almost impossible top see and find ( even in fp). Best to look for natural bay and build around it until they find a way to make water behave like water. -

Prior to 0.8, i had a griefer attack my base... they smashed the locks on the helm /anchor , crafted their own replacements and sailed of with my ship. For all their efforts they ended up with a ban from the server! I experimented with some ideas and came up with this one .... there's doors fitted to the dock exit.. which can be locked ...and there's horizontal doors attached to the ship..which can be locked in the horizontal position. With the dock doors closed and the ship dors extended , the ship cannot pass out through the entry of the dock. The dock doors are in the Protection barrier field so cannot be destroyed, as is the dock walls etc. Now what could be done would be to find a natural bay suitable for several ships to be moored inside. Extend the sides at the opening to allow a narrow canal exit, and place your base there, with the PB protecting the doors to the entry/exit. Of course the determined a..hats will find a way, but it will take so long that they could be traced through server back up saves. Attached screenshots are of my dockyard ... the side doors on the ship are locked horizontal and as such the ship cannot pass through the gap in the main doors... which are in the PB field. But to be sure, ship has locks fitted! -

As i said it wont stop them but force them to look for exploits we can see and the devs can patch! Foobar suggested that a large door be used at the floor of the dock, so closing it raises it and stops the keel from passing over. you could put he doors around at almost waterline level as a retractable platform for killing sharks ...or fitting spikes to stop illegal boarders -

Optimization? Its not practical when building a car to start supercharging the engine and adjusting fuel management when you still have to get the wheels and steering installed! Once they get the wheels on ylands turning smoothly they will put more devs into optimization. As Ales explained, everyone doe not work on one thing ...theres several teams working on multiple issues. Patience, young grasshoppers!

Baz Foobar runs a very strict server..and we who co-exist on it are happy and grateful. But even the Easter bunny and barbie can look innocent - yet carry weapons! Theres talk of putting a password on the server, but i understand Baz was reluctant to do so as he wanted to welcome all who choose to visit... but its obvious a lot don't appreciate hospitality. Griefing is just an extension of bullying you see on Facebook and other social media.. there are some who are no-hopers, immature imbeciles, un-creative misfits who are unable to act in a socially responsible way, so they resort to attacking anyone who they perceive as better than them in looks, education, personality etc. The tall poppy syndrome.. if you cannot rise to great heights , cut down everyone else so you appear to be the tallest... If everyone acted responsible in the world , we would not need police forces... -

@onedown... its someone's idea of a joke. Thats why i build over reclaimed land, and my front door has ocean under it ...if i get a body blocking my doorway, if after 2 days at the most they do not respond, i deconstruct the floor panel under them and let them drop. .. then replace the panel Only had to do it once,,,, but let the server admin know first....... -
Well, we had an eventful day, and it was fun. There were a few glitches..like crazy time and not healing when asleep ..and being tossed out of a ship for no reason whatsoever, and i experienced 3 timeouts early in the day ...but not later on.. Also the black ship bug is gone ..it is replaced by the invisible ship bug ..where all you see are the helm locks and anchor ...again a rejoin fixes it, and rejoins are not as painful as they used to be. This bug is not as common as the black ship one. But otherwise, the game is becoming better... The predatrors seemed to be more aggressive ..i had a leopard stalking me above ground while i was exploring a tunnel just below the surface... he followed me overhead the full length of the tunnel and that warning sound/music? drove me crazy! Its obvious that the 0.7 release was a bit of a flop, but this 0.8 update has redeemed Ylands. Had a fun day today , and lets see what tomorrow brings? ..hands out virtual chocolate eggs to the team....

oh dear aparently at spawn place some a...hat has run around stripped all the flint stones and grass of the island so starters are stuck there... despite the server admin replacing stuff last night. really, what a twerp! -
I am being positive.... despite a few minor issues and a couple of time out disconnects, my day today was more enjoyable. I noticed the predators are more aggressive and there were a few times when logging in after a battle loss with a puma, the process stuck at 78% recalling buildings . Task manager was used to quit Ylands and a re join ......and all was ok . I have not tried sailing yet, but from the others comments the map is welcome, and so far no black ship reports. Its worthwhile coming back and giving it a go, folks.

aha could have been ..i went in and cleared update cache .. the restarted steam from the beginning and it appeared !!

still no update ... nothing on steam...... tried to start game ...old 0.7 45788 available ...and all the servers on 0.8 are not visible in MP listing ...Having serious withdrawal issues as i have friends already in and reporting on discord what i am missing....... restarted computer twice hoping steam would update with the update ... no sausage!

we had a team of them try to hijack boats on the spawn point, after they killed all the unarmed offline avatars. They kept re-spawning non stop and it was hectic ..so the admin put mutant bears on the boats and filled the water around them with sharks... Genuine people were greeted, but the griefers would run to get on the boats and break the locks ... sharks and bears got well fed!

i am not sure about this but i think you can ban them from a server by their BI account No. ...but that doesn't stop them from then going to another server. However, it does mean that when they run out of servers they can access, their only action to get back in would be to get another BI account no . and that means buying the game again. Again there's private password only servers.. and these people will try and bluff their way in .... but passwords can be changed. Another problem about publishing players ID numbers , is that the innocent can be accidentally become banned. Some griefers might put out false information to settle personal vendettas.. So i think its best for each server admin to ban on each individual case , and leave it at that. I know from experience in another virtual world game where a griefer came in, and after a few attempts at disruption, found the game enjoyable ...and ended up as one of the best content creators for that game! Running around with pitchforks and torches calling for witches to be burned could have adverse affects... But after a while, these griefers will get so many bans on the servers here they will move on... It just requires the server admins to be vigilant, and the make it known that when you log into a MP server, behave, follow the rules or get kicked out .....permanently!

On the world i, and several others have been playing on , there have been bases on tropical temperate, arid and even taiga/snow biomes ... some had snowbound palaces that made swiss chalets look like housing slums! when the new 0.8 world is opened up to us by our friendly DS admin, it was requested by some that there be polar/taiga biomes! The test one we had tried consisting of one huge place was fun but not to everyone's liking as it was one biome with the others added in through editor ..and it was not quite the same! One of our players had an impressive base on an arid region.. and we had fun trading our resources of ore, wood marble etc with that player for their sandstone, copper and sulphur...and sand for glass! Multiple biomes with diff resources encourage interaction ... I like it! ----- Its like a trip to various supermarkets/ hardware stores / etc. to buy different supplies

Hopefully, before they add more chrome plating to the engine, and add extra aerials with flags, they can smooth out the bumps on the wheels and make the game run longer before the engine clogs up! The players experience and enjoyment should be attended to first, and although this is a clever idea and an innovation, we hope it doesn't draw resources away form developing a better, smoother, reliable running game! Gamers are an impatient lot... they don't want to wait for things, they expect it now.... already i hear of talk on different forums about groups moving elsewhere if they don't find what they want. Luckily for BI i am and old "stick-in-the-mud" and don't rush out buying games on a whim every day.... so far i have got my money's worth of enjoyment, and hoping for more!
