I think ts somewhat random ...i had one game that had two polar, one tropical then the rest temperate.... one polar had vertical walls and impossible to land on.. the other was a series of small mounds in treacherous shoals.... Its like getting a lottery ticket .. you dont know what the result will be. Sometimes due to such randomness .. the game will bog down ., but then starting new can be fun and refreshing!

RESOLVED Using hammer in blacksmith station
kimbuck replied to eddiepl's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Its a known issue ... also iron hammers don't last as long as they could ... Craft a couple of stone hammers and place them nearby the blacksmith station... you can then use theme to craft a batch of 9 iron ones ( 8 spares) , however place the stone ones back, otherwise they will " break" at the same time the iron one in your inventory does. This is one of the "joys" of early access .. it will be fixed once they get around to it .. with the steam release and impending holidays, they apparently have got their arms full at the moment,- 3 replies

Often you will find wolves in packs ..wheres theres one there could be 3 to 5 lurking nearby. if you do spot a group ... try moving around to one side and hit them with an arrow to make them split up .. they will get up and run around... but quickly arm yourself wit a spear or sword i case they come in your direction. Same with bears... hit them form a distance and if they come after you run ...and they will follow you ... if they do get you, at least the bear is no longer near where all your loot was dropped the first time and you can sneak back and retrieve it. I place spare weapons near where i respawn ...and also a small boat ... so i can re-arm and paddle/sail around to near where i was killed and try to find a way to sneak in and gather my stuff.

Let's talk about Griefers and ways to avoid them
kimbuck replied to Kittemz1's topic in General Discussion
You usually find the griefers are more prevalent during school holidays ... especially when the parents are at work and the kids are home alone. but then some of the kids can be 30+.... -
Perhaps allowing you to "name" the islands you find...would be handy!

This is a known issue... but at least its been fixed so they do not surface through the keel of your ship and dine on your ass while you sleep! If you see one beached like that, go after it with a sword or saber and harvest the meat

Let's talk about Griefers and ways to avoid them
kimbuck replied to Kittemz1's topic in General Discussion
This is exactly why I do not participate in MP. games. There are some whose mentality must be still in the infancy. They cannot create but have to destroy. Unfortunately its in ALL games that are mp orientated. What can you do ? Well they cannot play fairly with others so don't play their game. That's why I am in single player exploration... i don't want to give childish pleasure to the ones who think they are smart, but in fact they have yet to have the truck that delivers maturity and puberty arrive at their front door ...if it has, they didn't answer the knock! But what can the game developers do? As much as they can, but they can never keep these feeble-brained "kiddies" out. All i can suggest is that they develop dedicated servers that allow only mature like minded players access, and boot out and block the griefers etc. and they you look for such servers I am enjoying the game ...i might be lonely, but i did find a pet rock -
I had my ship go crazy .. would not turn left or right and acted like it was running into something.... nothing under the hull...and i had not picked up any computers. I looked around the ship and eventually i discovered a seagull wedged between 2 containers and the ships rail. So taking care not to destroy the container...or the ship ..i punched the seagull several times. - It took off and the ship nearly tipped over! Then it flew down the back and wedged itself in the stern superstructure. Whenever it tried to fly, the ship rocked and rolled.. ...and when landed, the ship would not move. Eventually it ran along the side of the ship deck and dropped off into the sea ...where it "flew" under the keel causing the ship to do a 180 degree spin... and then it surfaced and flew off! Then normality returned .

what would be neat would be a boarding ramp ...to avoid sharks lurking near your pier! Also perhaps a more modern hull design with different keel and bow shapes ..perhaps steel? ( and sharkproof)

RESOLVED Can't connect
kimbuck replied to Steve Buscemis Alter-Ego's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Friend of mine had a similar issue .. turns out it was his firewall/antivirus baulking at one of the programs being loaded. it wasn't the Ylands program but one of the internal modules for sound or something. It also could be Malware interfering with your connection ... -
I fitted glass panels around and over the stern/helm but they do not at the moment keep out rain or snow .. that's been reported and is under investigation. However i fitted either side of the helm a brazier and enclosed each three sides with a slight overhang at the front.. the trick is when you see bad weather approaching, light the braziers then ... they will stay alight for a long while after the weather sets in, only going out in a severe blizzard. You cannot light them when its raining. Check out the thread about Bongo-bongo and others of mine to see some of my crazy, but practical ship designs

After i chop down a tree, 3 swings with an axe destroys the stump allowing room for a replacement tree to be planted. I also sue discarded dirt to either reclaim land from the ocean around my base, or fill in pits left after mining ores. As to older weapons etc. i dismantle them for the metal etc. and re use if possible.

Sorry ..i only intended to help Guess you don't need it. Have fun. But thats strange ...i have had no problems gettin g stone and marble chunks .....and it works ok for me ... Enjoy the game.

Look for outcrops that are dark blue/black ... they are rock ...use a spade... you will get a mixture of stone and some marble chunks ..mostly stone chunks.

One has to wonder why this pea-brain posts all this rubbish because the only people who could understand what these scribbles mean are his own countrymen, and they not allowed by their leaders onto the internet in case they read some truths about them and their country.

Tip for finding nearby islands... Craft your map, and writing instrument ( pencil) ..put it in your toolbar and then move to a high point on your island... Open map and see what direction you are facing according to the compass top right corner. Look for high flying birds..and turn to face in the direction they are flying to ...or from, and note the compass direction! This will give you an idea where to sail to in your ship. My ship is nearly ready for its maiden voyage, and i have noted 5 birds flying around my island ..and possibly therefore the direction of possibly 5 nearby islands.. Its the high flying birds you look for.

I know the Devs can speak for themselves, but may i add my understanding of Ylands. Firstly is in early access ... so still being readied for a full release. During Alpha we have had fun , and encountered bugs, many of which have been fixed, and many more to be fixed. Secondly, the game is still being modified/improved/enhanced ...and there's bug's but unless the devs know about them, only then can they be attended to. Bug reports are essential. Thirdly, do not expect the game to be like others that have been running for several years. This is a new game and although similar in concept to other survival type games i understand the devs want it to be different and not the same as the other 'run-of-the-mill ' type games. Fourthly .. there is a roadmap of how they intend to expand the game ...its not a finite game, as they are looking into ways etc to add more Five ... Now the games is open to all to buy and join, expect a rush of new players, flooding the system expecting it to be like similar games . there will be griefers, those who want to kill everyone, and those who will always demand more for m the game to suit themselves. I have been here since September...a relative "new grasshopper" compared to some of the others who have been posting positive and helpful information to assist new arrivals and show what the game is cap[able of ...and also assisting the devs to iron out wrinkles. If you want something "now" .. understand that there's limitations as to resources , software, hours in a day, and it might be helpful to look back at some of the early posts and news items to gain some insight. Lastly, they say if you cannot get it to work ... try reading the instructions Enjoy your time here ... least now when sailing you don't get sharks jumping into your bed while you sleep!

This is a recurrent spammer...about 3 weeks ago we got his rubbish on a daily basis.

The sabre is not effective against bears ..i agree with that from experience! bears are best dealt with by long range weapons where you can have time to flee as they require multiple hits to kill. But against surprise attacks by pumas and " a Wolf" it is effective .. unfortunately the wolves are in packs and if your not careful you can blunder into a group of four resting undetected.

If you find a place near the sea that has a small beach and a soil / sand outcrop ... level the soil at the outcrop base and use it to drop items for temp. storage ..and construct a temporary log roof out from the top of the outcrop for protection. that way, with some log side walls the only access is via the ocean or a small gap either side... so a night time fire there will offer protection from most predators. If the place is suitable for a base, construct a stone or other structure around and over it, and demolish the wooden temp bits. You expand the base by digging back into the outcrop.

RESOLVED Compilation of known issues [UPDATED ON 30/08/2018]
kimbuck replied to Ane's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
It happens close to the bow.... i suspect it is to do with the collision physics at the ships bow... don't jump there or you get kicked skywards ... resulting in fall that will end your life! -
Scroll back through this topic ..there are several post with tips for new players to survive. We all were new, once

look for flat beach like areas along the shore
-
you can dig up powder kegs..... i found 2 but a warning, don't hit them too hard with your spade .. you could try dropping one of them ..or dynamite into the cave I had one cave that was producing mutes that constantly emerged and harassed my base...and despite continual "mutant slaughter" expeditions they kept respawning.. and attacking, but as the cave opening was near sea level , i dug a canal and flooded it Unfortunately some time later i encountered the 'falling through the earth" bug on another island ..and was terminated ..guess the Ylands cave gods got their revenge ( this was before the countless colors release)

RESOLVED Pointers gone wild
kimbuck replied to Maxime Gaillard's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I have found out that if you "jump" near the bow of your ship you somehow get a "spanking" by the collision physics associated with the bow, and you end up shooting skywards, falling back to land half on your ship and with your loot scattered on the ship and ocean floor...fortunately my ship was moored with the bow against the shoreline, so a battle with the sharks was successful! Computers are dangerous... the one on my desk here traps me in some sort of addictive vortex playing a game called "ylands".. which results in threats of domestic violence if i don't log out and go to bed..
