Actually... besides growing plants, I couldn't find things that wouldn't harden... What did you notice, @bojo2736?

Honestly, i dont remember. Maybe ir was a food item? It may just have been a weird glitch. After I posted that I couldnt reproduce it either.

  2. As much as I'd like to share in spilling the tea, this is really off topic.  I do think the game is improving, it has strayed from what I originally bought.  Fighting bosses and leveling up is the furthest thing from what I found charming about this game. That kind of game is ubiquitous, and done better by other franchises. If we can find a middle ground, it will be worth staying for.

  3. I have a bunch of old maps that I am sorting.  Back in the P1 days, I generated a lot of maps, and I kept a few.

Be aware that these maps sometimes behave weirdly. The new map rules effect them, meaning that even if there ARE 12 islands, you will only see a few of those.  The ones you don't see are still viewable in editor, but I haven't found a way to access them in play.   Also, there are some rendering issues.  These are playable more or less but you may find issues.

  4. I have been trying to get back into building in Ylands.  I do like the improvements that have been made to the build mechanics in Exploration.

The build workbench is a bit fiddly, but it is so good for getting into those tight spaces.  It is better than building with the prop, and it behaves more like the editor. So kudos on that.

Making items unpickable. This is a dream come true.  The only tweak I would make is to be able to use it on anything.  It seems like right now, it only works on crafted items.

Some things that I would really like to see added:

Please give us glass in more shapes and sizes.  We at least need the same shapes available in the other building blocks.  I would also like to see larger scale glass.  I would love to be able to tint the glass.  And while we are dreaming, can we get the marks out of the glass and just have clear?

Can we please get pieces in all the mediums, like the pier blocs in 1, 2 and 4 block sizes?  They are the only real piece we have that lets us explore negative space in our builds.   I use the pier blocks all the time, but they have their limitations.  One of the biggest being that they don't take color like the other blocks.  It's tough to get uniform colors with them.

Please add the alpha option to the paint gun.  You could have it require crystals in order to craft the color.

Speaking of painting, please add the ability to paint from within the build workbench.

Long ages ago, ice blocks were clear, and I used them all the time.  Now they are opaque and pretty much useless.  Please, can we get them back to clear?

The crafting menu.  Oy.   It used to be that if you want to craft wooden beam, you could search in the craft menu and it would come up.  Then if you want to craft a different piece of the same type, when you opened the menu it was where you left it.  Several updates ago, this was changed.   It may be that there is a reason for that.  But can we get some way to sort?  Maybe a favorites folder.  Or build swatches.

As I mentioned in another post:  Lighting controls.  It seems like it has been improve with the new update, it's still problematic.  We need more options, and also a way to effect dimness / brightness/ maybe even light color.

    Thanks for reading.

  5. Hi Nikki!  Welcome :)

I might be one of the oldest people here (57) and I came to pc gaming fairly late.  My gateway game was The Sims 4.  I started watching The Sim Supply on youtube and got hooked on watching builds.  So I bought the game, and several hundred dollars later (thanks EA!) I have almost all of the DLC.

Watching youtube builds led me to Keralis.  He was playing this cool little game called Ylands.  And oh my.  It was love.  I love the art style, I love low poly. It was just a chill, cool little game.  I bought it the day it was available on Steam.  I played it for about 1000 hrs solo, before I ever hit the public servers.  I currently have a little over 3500 hours in the game.

Most of my time was spent just exploring.  I love me some open world.  And learning to build.  Ylands still is the best building game I have found.

Being a new gamer, the public servers where kind of scary, and I ran into more trolls than anything else.  So I found the forum, and asked about dedicated servers.  I found @Baz Foobar and had a home on his servers for a while, until he gave up running them.

When he shut down his server, @RedEagle_P1. invited me to P1.  He gave me a home to play safely. He needed someone to run his exploration servers.  I didn't know anything about running a server, but I stepped up and did my best.  I learned a lot from Red, how to run a server, and how to use the editor.  I built a strong  community there.

About two years ago, it was time for me to move on.  I have my own Discord community called 3HT.  (Three hour tour, a reference to Gilligan's Island.)  I have hosted Ylands on and off since then.  Since the new play style, it seems like a dedicated server really isn't needed, so I haven't had one since that update.

I dabble in the exploration game, but it really holds no interest for me at this time.  I won't go into that here, but it really is just a builder game for me at this point.  As someone said upthread, what I love most about Ylands is the community.  I have made some really good friends, from all over the world.  It's what keeps me connected to Ylands.

These days I am running two dedicated servers with Valheim and Ark SE on them.

My current games are: Valheim, Ark, Ylands and GTA V.  And sometimes RDR2 online.  If Red Dead had building, it would be my perfect game, beautiful and horses!

  6. I just wish you couldnt see them all from spawn. I miss the adventure of finding them. Ships were required if you wanted to get off the starter island. Now, a raft (or horse) are really all you need. Heck, with no sharks, I have even swam.

  7. Please, please, bring back the more jagged islands, with the high spot in the middle, and the old style death caves.

Also, looking at that picture it reminds me of something I meant to write about.  The lighting situation.  Is it possible to not have the light "stack" one work station is fine.  Try to use two or more and it's the brightness of the sun.  Same with lanterns and really any light source.   We used to have some subtle options (glowing mushrooms and clear ice blocks to diffuse the light) but those got nerfed along the way.  I often design builds with light and shadow in mind.  It's impossible in the game as it is.

@bojo2736 we are happy to supply you with resources if you want to build on one of the Locust maps (or any new Exploration map, for that matter). Since every resource is infinite, nothing is crazy rare (except cake. If you find cake, I will trade it at 10,000 logs/stone/etc per slice XD ).

About the steam engines, they can take coal, charcoal, or wooden pieces, or in-bulk using a coal basket.

I might give it a try.  Details please?  @ocnoglittle

  9. Unless they changed it, you can make charcoal and it will work for the engines.  It's a PITA, but it's doable.  Do the steam engines no longer accept wood?

I don't know, I am playing almost exclusively on Legacy files.  Building is way too grindy on the exploration map, and I can't get items I need to be able to build the way I want to.  Exploration lacks any real appeal for me.  This was a special little game, now it's just one of may of the same type, and it doesn't do it as well as others.  The only reason I keep it on my computer is that it still has the best build mechanics available.
