    Hi guys,

    I'm sorry, but I will answer your questions about the cloud save tomorrow - we have more work on our hands than expected.

    Also I have some bad news - we won't be releasing the update today :( . This morning we finally got logs that we can use to fix one more very nasty MP issue (related to players getting disconnected). We've just had a discussion about whether we should release the update now (especially since we already postponed it once) and release the fix later as a patch - and after talking about it a bit decided against it.

    Obviously there has to be a moment where the update needs to be released regardless of how close we are to fixing more stuff...

    ...but releasing it while it still contains a critical issue that leads to players getting disconnected that we know we can now fix feels wrong. Also it we want to have this present in the update since bug fixing (especially with issues related to MP) is something that the community is most unhappy about (and we know that some players return to the game with every new update to see if it got better and so later patches do nothing for them).  And lastly - creating a patch always generates some unnecessary overhead.

    The update will definitely be released this week - but I won't do the same mistake of announcing the exact day again. Let's just say that we think it won't take long.

    Please accept my apology, we should have known better :(

    Good decision, thanks for your hard work! :D

    @Ane

    How about posting the instructions so everyone can benefit from them? I downloaded the Steam version of the dedicated server and have no idea what to do.

    The dedicated server software is still very much in early development. If you're interested in testing it out and providing feedback, send a private message to @Ane asking for access to the Dedicated Server Beta Feedback sub-forum, then she'll get you setup. Everything you need to setup your dedicated server is in that sub-forum, and it is also the proper place to provide feedback and ask for help regarding the dedicated server software.

    I DO NOT want to have to kill whales, are you SERIOUS? Why not also throw plastic bottles and toxic waste in the deep while we re at it? Hey we could also spill oil too no? How about not killing sharks but just mutilating them alive to get their fins and let them float there? What the hell? Are you guys unconscious at that level about how we are destryoying ecosystems and scarring our planet that you want to reproduce that in a game? Even when i cut a tree in this game, i replant it !

    I also draw, and here is what i am doing these days, because i HATE what we are doing to the oceans, originally posted in "Hello From France" in "Introduce Yourself" section, but i feel it needs to be SEEN here !!! That Mermaid will only have the skin on her bones and is only going to die on that beach full of our trash when it is done. Is that how you want Ylands to become? Not enough around us?

    Here is the progress on my latest drawing, work in progress, title "What Have We Done To The Blue ?"

    Color pencils and light tablet (that s why you see my prep sketch underneath)

    You can find more on my FB: YadNi Monde

    While I understand your point of view, and certainly agree that, in real life, we as human beings need to treat our environment way better than, I think your reply is a bit of an overreaction. I certainly would prefer not to kill whales, and would suggest that they not be required for progression within the game. I think it would only benefit the game, however, to add more life to the sea, whether that be whales, fish, or other sea creatures. @GrandPunkRailroad's suggestion on how whales would be handled may have been a bit overboard (excuse the pun), but I do at least think the concept of adding more more life to the sea would benefit the game.

    The comments in this thread made it obvious to me that Ylands needs a Politically Correct mode where both PvP and PvE is abolished. There can be no harming of trees, flowers, grass or anything else in the simulated environment. Animals must all be blessed with speech and Disney-like emotions so they can live in harmony and never actually need to eat. Fauna should never wither and the weather must be careful not to hurt anyone's feelings. Gameplay should be restricted to making emotes that express love and compassion for all things.

    Run this mode on one or two official servers for the treehuggers, then implement all the cool and crazy stuff so the rest of us can go have fun with A COMPUTER GAME.

    Sheesh...!

    Did you make this thread as a serious suggestion, or just from frustration over some of the responses from the thread you've linked to? I think there is certainly room for discussion on a mode or setting that makes the game more kid friendly, and by all means, let it be discussed if there is an interest in it. If, however, you just made this thread to be divisive and cause tension within the Ylands community, I suggest you revisit the Community Guidelines. While I understand your point of view on the matter, I find your method of expression to be in poor taste. Please keep discussion civil and constructive.

  5. Attaching files, uploading Profile Photos, and probably other methods of uploading files, seem to be broken at the moment. When uploading a Profile Photo, I do see where it mentions the file size limit being 5kb, but the upload fails when using a PNG file that is 1.27kb in size. When trying to attach files to a post, it tries to work, but ends up failing, only showing a white box in the attachments section.

    That's definitely a step in the right direction. Personally, I can't wait for mod support. Mods for administration and grief prevention were essential to me in administrating a Minecraft server, and I have a feeling the same may be true with Ylands.

  7. Are you referring to the issue you've posted about previously? I'm not familiar with how popular these servers tagged "official" are, or how they are being operated, but my best guess is that they are using the latest release of the dedicated server software, which is still under development. From my observations, public servers with a handful of players connecting each day tend to have issues with save files being corrupted, or other problems which lead to crashes. This is to be expected at this stage in the software's development, as optimization and polishing is usually the last stage before release of any software, games included. Being that Ylands is still a game in development, our job as players is to provide as much constructive feedback as possible in order to help the developers improve the quality of the game.

    Some good news, however, is that the Ylands Team has been rolling out more updates to the server software in the past week, so we may see some improvements in stability. If you do continue to notice issues with save corruption, or anything else for that matter, please share constructive feedback about it here on the forum. By contributing in this fashion, we'll help make Ylands the best it can possibly be.

  8. From what I've gathered, it seems to be javascript-related. Nothing I did with CSS seemed to have much affect on the z-index of the dropdown. However, when I changed the z-index of main.ipsLayout_container to -1, the dropdown appeared on top and could be interacted with. Unfortunately, having a value of -1 does not allow you to interact with anything inside the element, such as links. Setting the value to 0 made the dropdown appear behind everything else, and no change to the dropdown's CSS seemed to change that.

    I'll continue messing with it, but hopefully my findings can help someone figure out a proper solution.

    EDIT: We have a solution.

    div#ipsLayout_header {
        z-index: 1 !important;
    }

    Big thank you to @Dustin Pianalto for locating the offending element.

    Could I get 5 DS beta access codes? My friends and I play regularly, but not together for the hassle of multiplayer in its current state, I would host it on a home server and run 24/7

    There are no access codes. Anyone who wishes for access to the beta should private message https://ylands.com/community/profile/25-ane/ in order to be granted access. Once she receives your message, she will grant you access to the Dedicated Server sub-forum where you can find the server software, as well as instructions on using it.

    Hello!

    I'm Ava and i am new here, I would like some information about scheduled daily restarts, my partner purchased a game server from nitrado, it supports ylands, but we have an issue, we have started a new game and seems that after a scheduled restart the game server has difficulties getting the server back up, it just keeps on restarting (10 times), to the point the server fully stops and at this point, whatever game save we were playing last, will be gone! I read on nitrados timed restart tab that not every game supports the restart message!

    Could this be the reason why we keep having to make a new game save or has there not anyone been complaining about this same issue? For all I know it could be the server we are with (nitrado itself) but I am not sure, I opened a support ticket with them for the very same reason I am posting this here, they worked on "the issue" according to them yesterday, but once more the new game I started after was lost this morning, obviously I contacted them again and am now waiting to hear back, meanwhile I figured I would place the question here, in case this is the issue. Like I said to them, I will try to run a new game without the scheduled restart on and see for how long that one will  last, there has to be a reason to why we having this issue, all I can say is that it is beyond frustration now, we had to start over more than 5 times, wew! Also I have included the restart log, I have no clue if it will be useful in anyway, but I figured, might as well.

    Thanks in advance,

    Best regards,

    Avantica

    restart.log

    @Avantica Your issue seems to have something to do with Nitrado's configuration. I can't speak for how their restart system works, as it's not a feature of the Ylands Dedicated Server software, so your only bet for resolving this issue is to discuss it with Nitrado support.

    As a side note, the Ylands Team has previously asked that hosting providers do not yet offer Ylands hosting for these sorts of reasons. The server software still has a lot of problems, and it hasn't been deemed ready for commercial use.

    Hey Avantica, I am dealing with a similar issue.

    Earlier this week we lost all our progress. The save game was unavailable to rejoin but the server was available through search. I joined through search and our server had been wiped causing us to start fresh. This morning that has seemingly happened again.

    I am a content creator attempting to do a youtube series (a la Keralis) from this server, so the loss of progress is frustrating. This is a server for my Patreon community, so it is not just me being affected, I have a lot of frustrated Patreon supporters.

    Last time around my admin/tech guys let me know there was only one save and it had been overwritten--he said he would try to set up a system of back ups. He hasn't had time yet to attempt to recover our progress, if he has success I will reply again. If not we will be forced to start over for the second time this week. I need to find the reason for this issue if all servers are not being affected. It is really messing up my ability to promote this game and my community of players. My server is supplied by my sponsor g-portal and I have opened a ticket with them.

    @UniteTheClans I'd have to say the same in your case. Speaking with G-Portal is your best bet here, as there's not much we here can do to assist.

    could it  be   made   that  10   downvotes in a day  blocks that user?  ..until a  Mod  reviews it?

    I could see that being easily abused, even unknowingly. Just because a post is downvoted, the user shouldn't be blocked. When the forum gets bigger, I can definitely imagine it being relatively easy for an active user to get that many downvotes on a singe post in one day.

    We have no captcha on account creation, but if they’re able to post on the forums, that means the captcha is not an issue for them (we have other spam prevention measures).

    I could limit the amount of posts registered users can write per day, for example, but that already proved to be problematic for regular users too.

    Okay, so I see there is a ReCaptcha required for new accounts when they post or make a new thread, but we can see that's not working for whatever reason. My question now is, how are these bots making accounts? Are they using Bohemia's account system, or are they signing in via another service (e.g. Steam, Google, Twitter, etc.)? Is ReCaptcha required for all accounts under a certain number of posts, or only accounts made using Bohemia's account system? If it's the latter, they could just have a bunch of accounts, maybe Google accounts, made for this specific purpose. That would make it easy for them to continuously change account, change IP address, then sign in again to continue posting.

    Edit: Feel free to merge this post with the above post, didn't realize I was the last one to post on this thread.
