When I was a new Ylands player my experience was quite bad. 

I spawned on a resource-depleted laggy map in total darkness and was attacked right away but a guy with a club. I could hardly leave spawn and I could see nothing.

Now that Ylands has removed the official servers we have a chance to give new users a better experience. Well-moderated, fun servers with lights are key to converting new players into long-time fans of the game

I would like to put in a plug here for Nitrado.  I have been using it for about 4 months and recently resubbed for a year.  I have a small 4 slot server, and it was really inexpensive.  What I really like about Nitrado is that they are pretty idiot friendly.  I don't know anything about setting up a server, but I have been able to successfully host two different games.

The  current p1  pve   server  has had   very few troubles  regarding griefers...  unfortunately   we  do get thieves...who will  plunder  any unsecured    storage area.  I came back  after a 24  hour  hiatus  (  rl  shopping  to replenish the   rl  food  supplies etc)  and the only  issues  i  encountered  was someone  emptied all the   outdoor  unsecured  storage items ....   where i had a few  items to help  new starters. Why someone  wanted  8   flint lighters.  8 shovels    8 axes and  8 spades  is anyone's  guess.. and  judging by the  numbers  standing around lost at spawn, it  seems to be the   effort of one person...with  a  collectors fetish.  ( psssst  none   were signed  or in their  original  unopened  wrapping...  )

And  tonight  a  guy paddled up to my place on a raft ... ignored  my   greeting and tried to  make  off with  my boat ...    alas!  it was in a  PB area  and he  could not  break the   helm and anchor  locks.. -  so he  tried to make off with the other ship alongside..but he couldn't  find the  helm!  ( it was on a floating panel  above the   ship ...  hahaha ) ... so in the  end  he  j umped overboard and   logged out.... i suspect he will be  shark  protein  before  he relogs ..

But  otherwise,   as far as  community  goes,   the P!  servers  are great places to   meet   creative  people. 

We  need more  moderated  servers  like  these.
