I don't think so. On one map, the islands are quite far apart. Comparable to standard explore.

Does the teleport logic depend on having reference points, or some other logic that marks the destination?  I wonder if it's a question of the script having issues making calls to logic objects that are not currently loaded.  If it's a map that's online, that kind of problem would be worse because of the lag of suddenly having to load entire chunks of the map.

visual range should not be a problem.
