How does the multiplayer survival work?

Recommended Posts

I have been watching this game for some time and with the upcoming steam release, I may be interested in playing.

I was wondering how things will work in this game so I came up with a few questions :)

  1. Can you host your own dedicated server?
  2. How big can maps be in multiplayer?
  3. How many players can join the server?
  4. Is there some sort of clan system?
  5. How can you protect your house/base from other players?
  6. Is there any modding support for this game?

Hope some of you can help me answer them!

Cheers,
Royall

Thanks for the answers. I'm not sure yet.. 8 players in a map feels more like a coop game to me. Was hoping for at least 64 so we can have survival in terms of minecraft :(

They should remove the hard limit and let the server hardware decide how much are able to join.

Right now you can't host a dedicated server because they haven't released one for the new update. I also agree that there shouldn't be a player limit for servers.

At the moment it's very coop like indeed! Due to some resources not respawning and being limited at the moment I feel that the game isn't ready for 64 player games, but I believe that this will come in a future update :) I think that as soon as the steam release is there, the multiplayer experience (including the dedicated server) will get a lot of improvement and I hope this includes all the things we need to make communities like the ones you see in Minecraft!

I'll wait for some multiplayer updates before I buy :) It will suit the game well and I know for sure the minecraft modding community would be happy as well. Let's see what the developers will do!

Sounds fair! I 100% agree that this kind of MP experience will greatly boost the game, and that kind of gameplay/interaction is what I was after when I bought Ylands :) I don't know if you've had a look at the dev diary's and the sneak peak's yet, but the development of Ylands is going very fast overall. I think this is mainly because of the rather basic feel of the game and because it's in Unity. Anyways, the developers confirmed that one of the first things they will be working after the steam release + the first major buxfixes will be the dedicated servers:

I've heard elsewhere on the forums that on launch there will be some sort of deal (maybe some Coyns? maybe a better price?) on launch. Seeing as MP improvements may close this may be a good deal :D
