Smile, talk softly but behind your back carry a BIG stick

The meat will be delicious Not quite the same as rl horses though ... arm yourself with hay and recruit another. Bet you are just as addicted to the game as I am ..( and many others are ). The real fun comes when a bear slaughters you on a distant island and you respawn at home and have to build a tiny ship, and dodging sharks etc sail back to that island to recover your ship ...only to find the bear waiting on the shore where you moored it ...and sharks in the water waiting for you to swim to recover it

The reason why i am avoiding MP games is because i had similar experiences in other MP games.... gangs of revolutionaries ruined it for newbies just wanting to play and exist and enjoy the game! I gave up on one popular game because even tough it was "solo" mode there were players that knew each other and ganged together to eliminate all newbies as soon as they could.

once i got stuck in a tree and had a similar experience... but i selected an axe from inventory and "chopped" my way out ...but not sure if you can do this while on a horse without harming the horse!

Tips when dealing with wolves .. they will rush you, and they are usually in packs of 3 or more. If you have a long range weapon , such as a bow or crossbow, take a long range shot and if you hit one, it will get up and run around ..wait until it stops and try another shot. But if its comes toward you switch to a close range weapon, such as a saber. try to stand in a clearing so your saber will no be deflected by surrounding objects. If you hear a wolf.. stop and arm, and scan around .. there could be 2 or more so wait and see where the threat is coming from. If you spot 2 wolves fairly close together, don't take the fight to them ... the both will rush you ... so move away and try a long range shot to split the group. When you go to claim the skin and meat, watch out for other predators lurking nearby. Do not try a close range attack with a bear. they are powerful and it takes a lot to kill one. Try hitting them from long range with a bow/crossbow etc and if they come towards you ....well arm yourself with a saber or sword and fight like mad! A bear can outrun you, so always opt for the long range attack and don't pursue them .. they will double back. A good idea is to stand in a clear spot, and start swinging movements with your saber/sword before the predator attacks .. that way if there's grass o3 sticks in the way they will be destroyed giving you a clean hit when the predator closes in. Keep smiling

RESOLVED [YLD-7848] Ship Helm moves ship forcefully when ran into
kimbuck replied to _Jason's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I had a seagull run into my ships stern... the ship became uncontrollable . The seagull then went under the keel - and the ship almost capsized! The ship rocked from side to side until the seagull, ( still underwater)... managed to 'fly' away. -
Another tip for exploring new yalnds. From the screenshot, you can see how i have constructed stairs and platforms at the bow of my ship. What i have done here is eased my ship to as close as the shore as possible, where there is shallow water between the ship bow and the shore. I then used dirt ( carried in a container on the ship ) to construct a causeway from the ship bow platform to the shore. If needed, a stone panel can be carefully placed so there is no gap between the ship and the causeway.

Twice now i have done battle with predators ...one i was victorious, the other a inglorious defeat ( 3 wolves attacking at the same time! ) ...each time an item disappeared from my inventory ... the first time it was my knife ..... the 2nd one was my shoes. I know that dogs like smelly shoes ( i was wearing them!) ..maybe the wolves carried them away? Looking back through my exploits i now realize that if you have a full inventory and get into a battle some items can get damage like my miners helmet was once after a fight with a puma and i lost 2 health points. But i seem to remember wondering where other tools , such as saws, hammers, chisels etc have gone when i looked for them afterwards? Is this a "bug"... or a "feature" ? Anyone else had this experience?

Items disappearing from inventory after a skirmish
kimbuck replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
Thanks .. i assumed that might be the case. Then we have perverted wolves in Ylands... not only did they steal my shoes, they ran of with my skirt! If anyone meets a cross-dressing wolf, please advise Ane -
Would be better before Christmas.... you don't know what you will produce after all the Christmas festivities and drinks ....

Lead, is used in making musket balls, bullets etc. Its also used to make roofing coverings... and in bearing for wheels. Also could be used in shielding of power generators, ..and leadlight windows. Something for the future ...?

RESOLVED Crafting medieval window consumes hammer
kimbuck replied to paukku's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Perhaps a new item ... a steel hammer, with more versatility and that outlasts iron hammers? -
when you respawn you have your testament ..and a map - if you have crafted one. Perhaps when you "die" a marker appears on the map showing the location of your tombstone. Maybe also you could be able to place on your map a marker to indicate the position of your home base...or ship mooring point on an island?

RESOLVED Crafting medieval window consumes hammer
kimbuck replied to paukku's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Since the latest update, the iron hammer does not last as long as a stone hammer. When stone crafting they break often ... you have to make batches of 9 and store the spares. Perhaps there should be a new tool ..a steel hammer? -
RESOLVED [YLD-7848] Ship Helm moves ship forcefully when ran into
kimbuck replied to _Jason's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I have had a similar experience when sharks, or birds collide with the stern of my ship. A seagull caused my ship to become uncontrollable while it bounced along the stern of my ship. I have attached spikes to my ships stern to discourage following sharks, and if one ..or a sea bird runs into the stern, there is a "thud" and the ship will rock and swing around. -
I encountered a mutant leopard that had come out of the caves and was lurking near my ship and where i was harvesting rubber. It was lurking behind a tree so was hard to shoot at with a crossbow. I fired one shot and hit it and it turned to face me making a harder shot. I fired again and hit the tree it was partly behind. Then a nearby Boar got startled and tried to flee away from my weapon.. but instead it ran towards me and up a slight rise, - but when it reached the top it launched itself into the air and literally flew overhead, and landed a fair distance behind me . It was so quick i didn't get time for a screen shot, but i managed to arm myself with a sabre and successfully defend myself from the leopard It seems now with the update, the mutants will come prowling around at night, especially after you stir them up in a cave ( like i did earlier) anyway, the only glitch i see now and then is an alert after logging out that ylands.exe has stopped working .. but it seems to be happening at the same time each day when my antivirus is updating in the background.

The question has been asked ...how to get to shore avoiding sharks etc? My solution is to build a causeway from the front of my ship to the shoreline. I constructed my ship with access stairs to a waterline platform at the bow. I ease my ship up to a shoal and stop before it runs aground ...then from the platform dump soil into the shallow water to build up a causeway from the ship to the shore. I then place stone panels to cover the gap up to the platform.. to avoid falling into the jaws of sharks When placing the dirt etc make sure you dont block your ships ability to reverse out into deeper water.
-
Paukku ... check out my ship in the "Despotica" thread, - i have placed a platform around the front part of my ship with access stairs. What i do is ease my ship close to a shoal without grounding, then use dirt to make a causeway from the side of the ship to the shore. I add a couple of stone panels adjacent to the platform ..so it easy for me to leave ad return to the ship ..and avoiding swimming/sharks. I will try to post a screenshot of what i do in the thread about survival tips.

Ok ... confirming that if a seagull or other sea bird in full flight runs into your ship when its under sail. it causes a "thud" and the ship will rock violently... and for a while controls become un-responsive. If the bird gets trapped in your superstructure, the ship will veer off course, and will remain unmanageable until after the sea bird manages to free itself and escape.

The S.S. Rockbottom in full sail ... It is equipped with sleeping area, a smelter to occupy time when weather is to nasty to explore, and twin braziers to provide light and warmth, with lots of storage around the sides. It pays to light the braziers as son as you see nasty weather, as with the new updates, you cannot light a fire outdoors when its raining. So far sharks have left me alone ... i think the spiky stern is a factor..
-
caught 2 goats skinny dipping in the local swimming hole ... no sharks involved
-
With the update i am seeing fore fauna... Somehow, i think the sharks like me... Anyway, they made great sushi when they tried to get too friendly
-
Took my large ship out for a trip around my Yland...sharks were well behaved, however a seagull ran into the side of my ship and caused it to rock violently, then spun the stern around as the seagull "slid" along the side of the ship. Later, when preparing to dock and under half sail, another seagull collided with the front of the ship causing it to veer off course. Looks like seagulls here have the density of Turkeys......
-
So far everything looks ok ..except we still getting "land sharks" ...( see screenshot) ..makes easy meal The area is outside my sleeping quarters, and is "reclaimed" land from the ocean. Maybe that's a clue for a fix? ...sharks that need glasses so they can determine whats water and whats the shoreline ? Will be taking my new ship out to sea later today for a shakedown cruise...will let you know how the sharks behave there.

could try painting musket balls ... just make sure they don't explode when struck
