    Wired Walls

I'm an electrician and dry wood is actually a pretty good insulator. Technically if we assume the inside of the log is dry it would work. The whole purpose of games is to have fun and when you start adding too much realism it becomes a strict simulator and ceases to be a game. I like the idea of wired building blocks being added to the game. Kudos to the OP.
  2. Trust me, single player is not technically done and if it is my review on steam will turn incredibly critical. I feel the exact opposite of you right now because I have not been able to fully explore the game in SP explore mode before it becomes unplayable and I have stayed out of MP because of what I read about the problems. Hopefully they will be able to make all modes of the game work in time but it's not going to be instant for anyone. My biggest criticism is about them selling the game in this state.

What if I don't want to sleep at night?

I don't play multiplayer yet and maybe I am misunderstanding but from what I've read if you have multiple players on a server all of the players have to sleep or no one can sleep. Is this correct? if this is correct and you expect new players to comply with the server sleep rules I would suggest a chest in the spawn area of the server have a chest containing sleeping pads this way there is no excuse for a new player not to sleep. If 90% of the players on at the time want to sleep because it's dark then make it as easy as possible for a new player to comply. This issue is the reason multiplayer games traditionally do not have sleeping but instead adopt a night cycle that is bright enough to continue playing while still being dark enough to give a sense of night. In my opinion any game mechanic should enhance the enjoyment of the game and as far as sleeping is concerned I do not see where the automatic passage of the day night cycle (sleeping) adds any enjoyment to the game as you are essentially doing nothing. Sure it adds realism but real isn't always fun. Mowing the lawn is real and i'd hate to see that added to a game like this. That said the game is not finished yet and I do not know if they plan on adding consequences to not sleeping. My suggestion to the dev team is make night time fun. Make it a part of the game and not a part to simply skip over.

    RESOLVED [YLD-8856] Craftsman Potion

In my experience with the single player game the magic blooms occurred the most in the areas of rainforest biomes that have a darker green appearance. It still seems to be random and i've seen them in most of not all biomes but they do bloom again after picking them up. I've had them rebloom before I moved out of range and went back and got another. I'm not sure of the mechanism that is used for reblooming but it seems to be often enough to have all i've needed. My strategy has been to build a small house in one of these areas if it's not my home yland and goof off and sleep collect other materials on that yland while waiting for them to rebloom, however as has been reported elsewhere time no longer passes while sleeping. I don't know what the final plan is for potions but some have a limited time of usage before the skill is gained another way like breathing underwater and flying. I've never used strength and haven't used crafting potion in a long time. I've never used any of the cosmetic ones. I understand in multiplayer the creator can put in vendors that sell this stuff but I'm not a creator so it's only second hand knowledge to me. Depending on the final recipe for crafting potions I may in the future just dig underground to put my kilns and smelters in 6's to save space above ground and save the crafting potion for things like energy work bench, chem station for gunpowder and locksmith table for bullets. If i ever decide to build in single player explore with steel I'll probably build 6 of the forge thingies too.

    Ships, death and frustration

I found in single player explore game that the player seems to move relative to the ship which makes sense except that momentum is not accounted for if you lose contact by jumping for instance. For example i had stairs leading to a platform on the bow of my ship. While the ship is moving I can climb the stairs but I cannot jump onto them because momentum is not accounted for. I'm not complaining i'm just pointing it out. It's just a little disconcerting until you get used to it.
  6. I didn't know a smoothing tool was in the works but i have wished on several occasions to have a rake that would be used for smoothing.
  7. I'd like to ask a question because I noticed from very limited experience using the editor mode to move my boat from one explore game to a new one that the mouse click placing it down is so sensitive for some reason that I sometimes when placing the ship wind up with 2 ships instead of one. The difference with me is that it's quite apparent and im able to delete the extra one with no problem. My question is does this seem like a possibility in your case? I assume the fault is with some bounce in the switch in my mouse but felt like it wouldn't hurt to ask.

More uses for resin, sticks, etc

I've used all the sticks, bark and wood pieces that I had making charcoal for the ships steam engines. But more uses for them is a good idea as well as more uses for resin and maybe even the little rocks. I won't spoil it but there are more blocks out there that we can't craft yet that I have discovered so I think there are plans to expand at some point.
  9. Wouldn't it be fascinating if they could devise a system where player compositions made by players that give consent could be in the random distribution of things in explore games? I'd be tickled pink to stumble across something like the ship in the glass sphere made by a very talented player whose name eludes me (my memory for names is not what it used to be, actually come to think of it remembering names never was a thing for me). I'm not talking about whole bases or huge castles but little scenes similar to what the devs use already like little cabins where you find them and wonder "Hmm what happened here?" I'm not saying the devs should do this as I don't know if its within the scope of their plans but I think it would add a lot of variety.

Q&A video - ask us anything!

Will blocks of terrain ever be a thing? We can already place sand, dirt and gravel by holding and it kind of glooping it out but its kind of haphazard and acts differently when facing different directions. Will mannequins ever be a thing? I'm betting it's in the plan somewhere because of the variety of clothing we are able to find.
  11. In the explore game I don't think they use every asset in every game as I have found different things in different games and It's one of the reasons I didn't mind having to restart everytime the save game got too big for the game to handle. Right now i'm afraid of my hard drive going bad so im not playing until they announce a solution. But im still hyped to play again when they do.

    RESOLVED [YLD-8856] Craftsman Potion

Just to juxtapose a little between stone and wood building blocks and steel and brick building blocks which require crafting stations: Stone and wood blocks can be crafted as fast as you can click and the way the crafting potion used to be allowed that for steel and brick as well. The result of the crafting potion change for me is I no longer use steel or brick blocks and I use multiple crafting stations for the other things like charcoal, cloth, glass and ingots. The point I'm trying to make is building is fun, being creative is fun, exploring is fun, sitting and waiting a minute while 9 chunks of charcoal get made? Do I even have to say it? Ok I will, not fun.

    What was your first videogame?

Why not include computer games in there that had nothing to do with video? My first 2 computer games were Adventure which was the all text precursor to Zork and a very primitive star trek type game which only used keyboard characters as the graphics. I also played one of the first online multiplayer games on the GEnie network which was an AD&D game hosted by live dungeon masters using their own scenarios. I wanna say this was all around 1984 1985 or so. If you want to count the game console for Pong that was around 1978 or so and i had one of those. I also had a few small items published in Commodore and Ahoy computer magazines and another published in Lou Sanders Tips and tricks for commodore computers. I still have the 10 dollar checks in a scrapbook somewhere around here. LOL
  14. Sorry I just read a clarification from Ane, they aren't changing the crafting time back to one second with the potion, the bug she was referring to was using 30 grain to make it. But I hope they reconsider and change it back to the really magical 1 second. It's discussed in another thread. I apologize for inadvertently misleading you.

I guess i'll have to stick with the 6 kilns and 6 smelters method then. A Shame.

    Just some questions..

Both of the examples you showed as preferable to you were pretty hideous to me. Everyone has different ideas as to what is aesthetically pleasing and I hope everyone is able to find games that please them in this way. There is no reason to belittle people for what they find pleasing there is too much of that in the world today. And I sure hope the moderators can recognize and chastise posts that belittle people.

    Textures..

The one thing that I noticed about colors and textures is for instance the wooden beam (just one example) appears to have 2 colors and if there is a way to actually paint both of those colors I could not figure it out. I'm very familiar with the scam that was landmark, they never could figure out how to render any of the builds past a pretty close distance if you moved just a claim space away everything turned into one huge giant melted crayon looking mess that was only appealing to the biggest and most ardent fans of the game, all 16 of them. That's not fun and i believe that's why they cancelled everquest next saying they couldn't make it fun. Imagine a AAA game developer who couldn't make a game fun. I think so far the Ylands team is doing a pretty decent job balancing game with graphics. We won't know how well they did until 1.0 I suspect.

    [SOLVED] Suggest Editor Move Faster

hold down shift I think it is to zoom about like a skunk with its tail on fire (fast). although it might be ctrl or alt, i know it's one of them.
  19. The charcoal is made in the kiln where you make glass, it's just 1 piece of any of the following, bark, sticks or wood pieces. when you make it i'm not sure how they prioritize what the order is so if there is any particular one you don't want it to use up you should store it in a chest. Using the crafting potion ( not sure what the ingredients are off the top of my head ) allowed us to reduce the time from one minute to one second, essentially as fast as you can click. However the crafting potion is bugged at the moment and Ane has said it will be fixed. The crafting potion works on all of the workstations to the best of my knowledge and memory and its the same potion for all of them.
  20. once they fix the crafting potion you'll be able to make around 3 to 4 hundred charcoal a minute. I've never exhausted a full bucket of charcoal, I save the coal in a separate bucket for making steel parts because you can't use charcoal.
  21. No, i'm sorry I wasn't very clear, the charging station charges them. I have a charging station connected to a small generator very close by. I was just trying to show how fast the whole cycle is and neglected an important part. To be more clear here are all the steps I use. Construct, and place your engines, charger and generator. connect the generator to the charger. place the largest power pacs in your inventory. trigger the charger which charges the packs. equip the packs. charge your engines. recharge your packs for next time and put them away in a chest nearby so they don't take up a inv slot. I hope this is more help and more clear. My large ship has 4 sails as well as 4 ylandium engines and switching between them is very easy, just follow the tooltips that appear when you grab the helm. When i'm able to play without the problems i've had with the game in general i'll try 2 or 3 ylandium engines instead of 4. The steam engines won't be a bad option either once they fix the crafting potion since you can make charcoal really fast with them
  22. I've had problems with the compass toggle becoming confused as well as the toggles for the ship anchor and even sails once being confused as to what state they were in.

    Ships, death and frustration

I simply cannot understand why people put themselves through this. It seems like torture rather than gaming. Is there really nothing more fun to do? For me when a game becomes work and not fun I do something else. Maybe it is fun for you, I don't know all I can say is I don't understand. They seem to be working on the bugs and making the game more fun and eventually these things will get fixed. A game can only do what its programmed to do and more effort on the part of the player can't change that.
  24. Last time I played after 0.7 the only way to charge the ylandium engines was the larger power pack, not as easy as being charged from the charging station but not game breaking for me. I just kept 4 packs in a chest, when i charged my engines naturally they depleted and 10 seconds later they were recharged and within another 10 they were back in the chest waiting for the next cycle. Since I didnt know they used to be able to be charged with the charging station I didnt feel put out or feel any inconvenience. To me 4 ylandium engines was a little too fast because it makes it harder to spot floating debris when going that fast and i have had a hard time spotting it anyway. In order to charge the engines themselves hold the pack in your hand and highlight the engine you want to charge and you get the option to charge it.

    Got a problem, specifically painting.

Get a program called autohotkey. You can easily write a script to plant seeds while you sip coffee or whatnot if you know a tiny bit of basic programming. I have found this very useful having disabled hands where repetitive clicking is impossible for me. You can also easily write a script to harvest the plants after they grow. if it is allowed by the devs I will share the very basic scripts I used for this purpose but i won't post them without express permission from the dev team. These scripts in no way allow unattended gameplay as the stack limit of 100 seeds requires a restart every time the stack runs out. Autohotkey is a godsend for people like me who would be unable to enjoy a lot of games without it and best of all it's free and takes up only a tiny amount of system resources.
