    RESOLVED Games keeps crashing

I had a similar experience for a while ... but found it it was due to a series of updates from microsoft, my anttvirus/firewall and steam all pushing updates through my isp connection at the same time. Took some time out to have a coffee, trip to the bathroom..and phone a friend... then ran some cleaning programs to dump out old files.... and squash some malware bugs and all went sweet afterwards. Now i do a malware/junkware / old files scan every 3 days .... spends about 15 minutes of my on line life,...... but its obviously worth it
  3. I have a small dinghy near my dock which i use for emergency rescues or close to shore travels ...it had a habit of drifting away ... so i built a bay to contain it and placed some logs behind it to stop it floating off. Every Ylands day it changes position ..it moves around sometimes its beached ..other times against the barrier or rotated 90 degrees...... Blame the sharks

    Things You Didn't Know

@BB cakes ... yes thats happened to me ..i put some fish and meat on a table .... and put close by a brazier to keep myself and guests warm Came back later and there were piles of ash on the table where the meat and fish had been ... i wonder what any guests would of thought of that hospitality!

floating objects and message in bottle

another idea would be a npc castaway on a raft ...washing ashore seeking food etc for the trade of items like sulfur, saltpeter, rubber, or something useful for a say fishing rod or food. . once the trade is made the npc goes back out to sea to drift to another island...

    Sneak Peek #48

Optimization will be a continuing process throughout the life of this game. Anything new added will affect how the game runs. If the devs were to try and implement every demand put forward by those not involved in the games construction, what ra mess we would have! Logically they will ignore the " i want this now" crowd and try to follow their roadmap as they simultaneously swat bugs, release hotfixes, and analyse trouble logs supplied by players seeking to help. Just because i can play a bass trombone left-handed ( yes-- thats true in RL ! ) doesn't mean i can blow my own trumpet in telling the devs whats wrong with the code etc of the game, but i can tell them of my experiences playing it, and that's what matters... if the experience is good, recommendations will be good, and people will buy the game. That means more finance for the devs to improve and develop the game. Sometimes i post here my frustrations with the game and its usually over something thats pivotal to the game and if not attended to, itt will see others players experiencing the same frustrations simply leave the game. Our comments here are read..and noted. I have received feedback, which is encouraging. All we should so is keep providing them with feed back. They will listen to whats constructive, and whats a good idea. If they Choose to ignore the "sword wielding kill all and destroy all" minded players, well .. this is a game of creativity and exploration.... and its obvious form the forum posts the majority here are of that genre. All we need to do is play the game note whats good and whats not, and occasionally poke Ane and Ales to remind them we are still here
  7. Being honest, Sp becomes boring... and the current MP version is really unplayable and frustrating in its state ... with the fixes promised..if they are at least 50% effective, will see a much better game, and i am holding out for that. However i see there's more than 50% effectiveness planned, and with some concentrated efforts on performance optimization, and also about fixing server degradation over time in subsequent hotfixes/releases, this game will be awesome... well more awesome!, We know the devs are listening... sometimes silence means they are hard at work, so if you do not get a personalized reply, its because they are working for the good of the whole, not individual demands. As most of the game is based on explore, ships are essential and for the game to work they have to work. What would be appreciated would be a bigger variety of hulls, as not everyone is trapped in the "pirates of penzance" genre, and some modern modifiable designs would be appreciated. But the main thing is ...although this game is apparently not ready to leave early access right now, it will in the future, but it might take the devs an extra 4 months or so than planned. Best to take small steps with surety than leap forward into an abyss..

    Trust no one!

With the advent of 0.8 and the likelihood of a new explore game staring on the server i infest, I been thinking of building construction ideas that should thwart most griefers and imbeciles who like to spoil peoples games, So I enlisted the resources of my house partner to come up with passive ideas to ensure my building and stuff doesnt get messed up. Here are some of his ideas... 1) construct a base of inverted stone spikes to thwart tunnelers. Place your floor on top of them 2) double thickness walls ..this has 2 purposes... to stop the 1st person peek through walls, and when painted, the outside wall and inner walls can be different. 3) Put a moat around the building, but not containing water, but spikes... only has to be wide enough to thwart peeping toms from creeping up to the wall to spy. (sea urchins in the shallow waters around your base can provide a similar partial deterrent.. 4). A wall of dense trees ... with gaps as gateways... fair enough they can be cut down, but hopefully a griefer will look instead for a softer target and go away.- besides the trees look cool and environmentally friendly 5) Build an enclosed dock with walls around your ship ... fit doors to the sides of the ship that can be locked outwards like wings (ears), to foul similar lockable doors on the exit sides of your dock, making movement out without a key impossible or very difficult. especially if its within your protection barrier field .(.they cannot break the locks there) 6) bait objects : In zoos they leave a banana on a desk in the keepers area outside where the chimpanzees sleep .. so if the banana is missing in the morning they know that the chimps have found a way to get out at night. So make a dummy boat and place it at your dock with locks etc on it and watch as hijackers try to sail it away.. will be a hoot as it will have no scripted hull and the helm and stuff will be non functional. Alternatively make a "devil glitched" ship that you know will sink or dump its occupants into the ocean somewhere... let them steal that 7) use a paint gun to paint ships cars and other steal able items in ghastly colors that the other community member will recognize and will know if it is stolen if not being operated by you, and alerting the admins for action. But also think of the positive... by providing a area with a spinning wheel, weaving loom and smelter, put some shelter and access to some basics like bananas corn or - agave plants (for yarn) perhaps the griefer will become sociable appreciate the help and move on. ( i believe in Karma ...and that's not an automobile's mother!) ( oooh the nasty puns!) Also leave signposts with some helpful instructions ..did you know sisal agave can be used for yarn to make -cloth etc and it grows back the next day and doesn't need replanting like cotton/flax? And also make a sign advising people that server admins can and will deal with griefers and troublemakers, resulting in BI account bans from that the server ...but the only problem with that is ...do, or can...griefers read? Meanwhile the evil side of my brain is processing other ideas...

    Multiplayer Burnout - 24/7 Lies

i tried a different server once ..and spawned in the midst of about 15 others with offensive and crude names .... i was immediately fired upon by someone with a crossbow who was luckily for me a bad shot. I evaded the onslaught but was stopped by some guy in a propeller pack and obviously a creator cube... who suggested i go to another island ..and it was his server, so can you disagree when a guy with a crossbow "tells you " to do so? He dropped me on a tiny island with no resources and a simple hut ... i then realized he was simply playing games with me .. this was one of his gulags . I logged out never to return ... and i have never seen his server online since despite his platitudes it was a 24/7 server run by him Humbug - just someone with an ego .. if he was a good admin then those crude people around the spawn area would a have been removed..if he knew how!

i am going to build my next base on top of inverted spikes to discourage tunnelers ;-)

    Sneak Peek #48

wow dynamic hair...do we have to craft shampoo?.... aloe vera shampoo ..good for the scalp ... guess it will be nice but would be better if introduced after the game is made to run smoothly
  12. And very trying it is! We tried for 4 hours today, and spent over three of them watching a blue screen to return us to the log in screen and tell us: a) why we were being licked out b) what progress we were at in rejoining... often stopping at recalling buildings 100% for sometimes 15 minutes .. and half the time kicking us back to the log in screen. We spent what little time we were successful at getting in in trying to rescue other players who were dumped somewhere, and needed re-uniting with their boat, base or belonging..or in some cases ...found! If these logouts and deaths were caused by predator skirmishes , well that is part of the game, but to suddenly get a blue screen and everything hang for 5 minutes before getting back to the log in screen, its pathetic and frustrating ...so frustrating that several players gave up and played other games they knew worked. The only reason why we didn't go away and play Sims 4 was because half of us hadn't downloaded it yet. What was all the drama..? well a collection of MP glitches... some we knew about, some not yet resolved and some new ones. Here is how it unfolded (data log supplied) Players were stranded by blue screens and "death by glitch" ..so we tried rescue missions to return lost ships possessions and find the players and return them to their base. Start off, when taking ship helm .. the view jumps to a high altitude one and zooms in on you at the ships helm ...when i see that i know there's not going to be good following! reversing ship from dock and everything freezes except the sounds.... after a few stutters resumes but by now you way out of the dock and your base just in view and still going backwards! Travelling in convoy to return a ship ... it seems if two ships are in the same ocean tile, ylands has a fit or something... both ships disappear for a second and you see the helmsman skimming over the water until the ships re appear... usually when on ship moves onto a different ocean tile ..it was so quick a screenshot was impossible. Stuttering and lag .. it looked as though i was watching a 1920 Charlie Chaplin film on a hand projector operated by a fatigued projectionist! Then the sharks... 2 conjoined sharks attacked the front of the ship and got stuck there ..and the ship stopped dead! I could not release the helm or access any of the controls for the ship ..it just stood there wobbling with the sharks movements, and camera view stuck straight ahead and stuttering. An attempt was made to push the ship with another one , but the pushing ship seemed to get caught in lag caused by the shark/ship collision...and no help. Te only solution that worked was to kill the sharks, but by that time i had starved to death at the helm. Fortunately i respawned nearby was able to return and with the help of the other players locate and retrieve my stuff. With the sharks terminated, ship control was again possible! So we gave up on our expedition and tried to return.. and again the blue screen of " y;lands has given up" resulting in a total log out and restart of steam and re join...fortunately still at the helm of my ship at full speed some 10 minutes later ..and fortunately running into my intended destination by sheer luck! Ok so got off the ship and met the other players who had also made it back despite they too getting the "ylands had a spasm" blue screen .. but two of us had glitched avatars .. our heads were missing and so was any identification as to who was who ..and we were dressed in black undies! A long and painful rejoin fixed it but then we had given up playing the game for the rest of this day We hope, pray, everything... that when 0.8 is released the game is playable ..but to be honest, we are not confident. perhaps The Devs should spend less time introducing " shiny oooh ahh " things and concentrate on gettting the base game working. As much as i don't like playing "the Sims", it might be the only stress less alternative where all my friends will go... the screenshot is of the sharks apparently affecting boat control output_log.txt output_log_clean.txt
  13. I agree BB... my notorious first boat " the flying chicken" had no fore or aft part, just a platform built on the hull and as you saw, it was an uncontrollable glitch-y beast with half a mind of its own and the other half of a demon. Its been deconstructed and rebuilt and the successor still has some issues, but the known ones. Currently the only issue is moving around deck where you can get thrown overboard ...i constructed high side railings as a test, but theres more to it... something else to be discovered..

More uses for resin, sticks, etc

I also gather sticks and wood pieces left behind by other tree harvesters to power my boat ( tidies up the region and may reduce lag) .... but what would be good would be to use gravel, crushed marble and clay and sand to make cement ..and craft cement blocks and archways etc
  15. That could be so , but this post was no about attracting sharks, but what was happening here was the sharks have interfered with the collision physics of the ship, and with the sharks "attached" to the hull, the ship acts like its run aground. Control is returned to the helmsman only when the sharks are removed, either by fortuitous maneuvers, or terminated by a weapon from another nearby person. While the sharks have the boat caught up, the player has no way of controlling the boat or releasing the helm or moving the camera, and it only happens when the water is shallow enough for the shark/hull combination to touch the ocean floor.
  16. who what when where... which cave?
  17. here is a hint as to the shark / ship issue... if the ship is navigating shallow water but the water is still deep enough to sail over, and the sharks attack...if there's multiple sharks they act as part of the ships hull and the ship thinks its run aground. solution? jump in and dig out the ground under the sharks( not advisable! ) or get someone nearby to kill the sharks ..or if possible gun the engines and try to force the ship ahead into deeper water... but do not count on that! the more sharks the harder it is to move... other alternative... kill yourself or log out and hope the ship hasn't sailed away in the lag time it takes to rejoin. ------ after you wait for ages for the menu screen to appear..
  18. I hope that from the logs i supplied that they can see what the issues are that need fixing....
  19. ok heres a new one ..ships getting stuck and and not moving when attacked by multiple sharks ..its happened 3 times now with me and when it happens you cannot release the helm to feed or anything, camera view sticks and stutters, and all you can do is wait until you die of starvation ...or press escape ( the only option as other commands wont work..) and see where you respawn and kiss your ship and belongings good bye!

What if I don't want to sleep at night?

As BB said.... MP games work better with co operation, so when the sleep icon appears on the server we inhabit, we comply out of courtesy. Yo do not have to join discord ..but its handy .. you do not have to take part in other things, but if they insist, and you dont like it ..find another server. As to the spawn island resources being depleted ..or prisons around the spawn point... and griefing, well look for a friendlier server where the admins are active Baz Foobar's server has a no griefing policy etc and although i sound like a sales(wo)man in promoting it, we are not having the griefing issues like other un moderated servers, as sword toting idiots killing afk people or stealing others boats, things etc are soon asked to leave .. via the back door and in a hurry! So there you have it . if you do not want to co operate, or act as a loner, and obey simple rules, go back to SP . MP is fun if you all co operate....
  21. Currently the shovel flattens land and this can resulted in a"stepped" landscape ..which is not friendly to vehicles and also un-appealing to look at. What would be handy is to be able to use the f g h keys with the shovel to contour a tile at a 45 degree angle, allowing for sloped roads etc.. Also to form beaches and easy access/egress to water.
