    Thoughts on sailing,while sailing

Dropping a few more ship suggestions: A crane/winch to put on the back/side of our ship to lift a small boat, to be able to get to shore and back. It doesn't make sense to craft a raft/boat and to leave it behind every time, whereas trying to get close with a ship will quite often make you run aground. Ship naming: When placing the hull, a window should appear to name the ship, similar to taming horses. Renaming could be done with the radial menu by the owner. After the boat has been given a name, it would be nice to see the actual name on the boat on either side of the bow and on the stern. Boat building rights could be managed with the radial menu, as well as transferring ownership to other players.

    DEV ANSWER Flag Rotation

I've found some -I think- unintended behavior with the flags: when you place the flag in the editor it normally rotates due to the wind. If you place it upside down though, it first flips itself upright and then moves into the wind. Since it's impossible to see when something is upside down this leads to funny situations Adrie
  3. Hello, I've encountered a bug with the rendering of the sandstone ledge in the editor, upside down. When I place it, the block immediately turns into a 1x1x1 cube block as you can see. If I do Ctrl+z (undo), the last block disappears ofcourse, but the other blocks suddenly change into the correct model. Another bug that I've encountered is that when I move a small composition consisting of windows, sandstone blocks and decorated sandstone blocks, the sandstone blocks start to become glitched as if there's multiple of them in the same space, and so do the windows. Deleting the blocks and then undoing the deletion turns them back to normal. Adrie output_log.txt
  4. Here's a visual example of what happens with the 2nd bug, it happens when I move a group blocks around. You can clearly see the roof clipping/glitching if you compare the screenshots:

    Germs? - Suggestion

    1) Are you sure you're on the right Bohemia Interactive forum? This isn't DayZ 2) With the current multiplayer state this doesn't seem to be a problem Even when my server was running and griefing was happening, zergs weren't one of them. May also have to do with the fact that the game isn't that well known yet. On a more serious note though: With the upcoming shield barrier generator you can make yourself a safe house, fortress/castle/watchtower to defend yourself and your precious items. Also due to the fact that the map consists of islands, fresh spawns first would need to get enough boats to get to islands etc. As long as you're away from spawn island you should be good. I believe it's not as easy in Ylands as it is in Rust to gather a group of freshies and go and hunt well geared players. Destroying any base within a shield generator I believe will be impossible, plus the most important items such as keys and maps will be no-drop. So very little reward. Plus I believe that it's not really what this game is about in general.
  6. Currently the 2 blocks tall pier support block model looks kinda silly, being a little bit rotated in multiple directions. Is this intentional or an error? Because the 1x1x1 pier support is not rotated like this and does stack correct. .
  7. I already PM'd Ane on this, but here is a longer explanation: The model for the 1x1x2 wooden block slope is actually a tiny bit bigger than 1x1x2. If you try to place a block in front of a slope, you can only do this by placing the slope first and the block second, as illustrated in the screenshots: The size difference is very hard to notice, and because of that can be frustrating for people unknown of this "problem". I understand that having the blocks a bit bigger could be a design decision, but if so I think the small extended edge shouldn't have a hit box. Adrie

    Sneak Peek #42

Thanks for the answer Could you also shed a light on how this is gonna affect balancing? For example, why would I go to the desert to get sandstone if I can just get stone and paint it? Even more so with marble which is fairly rare to get. Adrie

    Adrie's Shipyard

I've been wanting to make a house for quite a long time in Ylands but up until now I never was really happy with them... They are either too big, too boring or just too expensive to make in the explore gamemode. I've set myself a few goals to make one and gave it another go. The requirements I've set were: Explore gamemode minded: It had to be sort of safe/secure, bearing in mind the upcoming energy barrier generator, so not too big of a footprint and preferably rather square as I guess the barrier's footprint is gonna be square or round. Easy to mine/acquire main materials, The possibility to place plants nearby to keep it sustainable, or another source of food, Enough storage space and all the work stations, this should be my main hideout, Preferable near the water so I can keep my ships and boats at home, Expandable, so it can grow with me as I get further and further in the game. After trying to build a nice house in the polar biome, I found that there's not enough resources there, especially ores, to make that a viable option. Instead I've tried to explore the option of open sea bases and fortresses. My first little sea house is here: It's built mainly of bamboo and wood, 2 of the most common, easy to get resources. Both are 100% sustainable, so expanding the base in this style should be very easy and cheap. Although at the moment I haven't got any place to plant any trees or other plants I could either make a small platform on poles or place a ship hull to function as a barge. Here's a small pier. The pier will not be protected but isn't that valuable or prone to grief I think Here's the entrance. It's the only way of getting in and out, even though the rest of the house looks very open! Upon entering the house you enter my work room. Here you find my workplace with the crafting stations Around the corner at the tanning rack you'll find my bedroom To get some more privacy and to keep the mosquitoes away I can close the curtains on the bed Either from the bedroom or the crafting place you can access my storage and cooking space. There's a few chests/drawers there, and a ladder to access the chest on top of the bedroom. Finally in the back with a nice view is my lounge place. It features 2 comfy arm chairs and a bamboo bed, should any of you want to stay over I think overall I managed to get a lot of my requirements fitted in this building. I hope the shield generator will be big enough to cover the entire house! The main disadvantage is that I only use 1 floor and there for lose a lot of space for storage etc, but I think the house looks better this way and there's enough storage room for now Thanks for watching/reading! RESOLVED [YLD-7288] FOV slider

The FOV slider in the menu seems to be bugged. After you exit the game and start it again it will always go back to the default 65 degree FOV, although the slider will remain at your set FOV.

    Sneak Peek #42

I'm really looking forward to this patch, it seems that there's a lot more content, especially for this short time in between patches A few quesions: Will there be any improvements on the dedicated servers? And will the Coyns system be introduced along the new item store? Or will it be more like a placeholder/testing kind of store. Edit: one more question: can we paint stone in a sandstone color for example? And if so, why wouldn't I make everything out of wood? It's easy and safe to get, renewable and environmentally friendly Adrie

    Newbie and Buy?

Heya! The game is currently not on sale anymore! It will be back on sale after the official steam release, I believe before the end of this year There's a few topics around here with some beginner tips, and you can ask specific things in this topic of course. Enjoy the trial! Adrie

    Sneak Peek #40

I've got a question: Can you actually color only 1 side of a block, or only certain "triangles" on a mesh?

How To Series - Ylands -

From the top of my head, they removed some crafting stations so the metalworking one is outdated. If I'm correct, the anvil got taken out.

    Crafting System

The devs already confirmed this is gonna be vastly improved! Sneak Peak #39 gives you a look into what's gonna happen with it (click the post to go to the topic!): Adrie

    Dev Diary #19

I think that this is by far the least "controversial" dev diary/sneak peak in a few weeks now it sounds very reasonable, balanced for now and the option to have it our way later on is very welcome!

Anyone else with a shark problem?

Hehe awesome, finally nailed it I'm curious to see how this would work/look on ship that hasn't been built to withstand sharks, maybe it fixes the problem completely

    Sneak Peek #41

Fair enough as well, I'm looking forward to the next sneak peek to see what's gonna happen with it

    Sneak Peek #41

I'm guessing "non droppable" or "non transferrable" items would fix this, but I honestly believe the best way to fix this is by using code locks on your house There's no fun in adventuring if there's no risk right? In case code locks are far more expensive than normal locks you could always put your key pouch inside a single code lock protected chest, this way you could store your keys quite cheap and safe. Anyone else with a shark problem?

I've been thinking what would happen if you would place bear traps or spikes on the back of the ship?

    Polar biome

Heya! I've got some suggestions for the game, mainly revolving around the polar biome but also about weather/climate in general: In general, there isn't much reason to go to the polar regions, let alone try to live there. I've tried but I constantly had to import stuff from other islands. At the moment, there are no ores/resources at all, but a few polar bears and tons of penguins. It would be nice if there was some kind of "reward" of going there, for example vast amounts of ores in the ground. Now there's only dirt and snow. Plants grow anywhere, regardless of light, water or temperature. I would like to see this changed. For realism, I've put plants in pots in a cave with heaters and lights next to them, powered by wind turbines. It would be nice to make this necessary, and have plants grow based on the surrounding temperature. Also having a way to water plants would be a nice addition, to make it possible to grow plants in deserts? There's currently no way to see the in game temperature but I've got the feeling that the heaters don't do very much at all, both the small and large heater. Having fires is more efficient, which defeats the purpose of the heaters. Plus I don't want to have massive bonfires in my house all the time I've tested the heaters/fires outdoors (maybe heaters work different indoors?) with different sets of clothes. Their range is ultra limited. When these things change, this biome could be a nice endgame place or a more hardcore way of life (with the added reward of finding lots of resources/ores). This could lead to more trade and cooperation on multiplayer servers as players have to rely on items from other regions for survival Adrie

    0.5: Rainy Roads (01/09/2017)

Is there a reason that bones seem to be removed? Both the mutated and normal bones? Also I can't find any skulls or animal remains. Is this just for the age rating or something? Adrie

    suggestions for the future?

I think that moving panels 45 degrees gives you the problem of not being able to work with the normal grid, because then the blocks won't join correctly anymore! Also combining multiple gridsizes gets really messy! Maybe if we got more sloped blocks/panels we can make 45 degree angles ourselves? Edit: I've been thinking about how to make this work, maybe have block to block snapping, instead of snap to grid? With multiple snap points per block.

    Sneak Peek #40

A week ago I literally thought, what if this game had a radial menu? I've played Star Wars galaxies where this was used everywhere. A good default button would be the ` (tilde) key right between ESC and TAB Looking forward to the colors as well, gonna have to recolor everything I made so far which is gonna be a huge task! Adrie

    some survival tips for newbies

When going into caves, mark the tunnels where you came from with a pile of glowing crystals! If you're clever you use blue crystals in desert islands and red crystals in islands with blue crystals Also, pick up any huge mushrooms, they are very usable to make staircases and bridges in caves, plus you can pick them up and use them again.
