  1. I've tried multiple new games with the same result each time. I'm still not seeing any reports of successful completion of a game started after 0.7 and the hot fixes i.e. discovering all islands/underwater stuff, building ships and bases. When I start seeing reports from players that can accomplish that and they announce a fix then i'll give it another go. Sure i'd like to be able to play but i have tons of games that are less of a headache and that makes me not in a hurry about it. I came close to what I considered a finished explore game the first time I played and that was right before 0.7. I had all of the islands discovered I think I had 9 that time. So at least for me something changed with 0.7 and the hotfixes. I don't understand the lack of posts confirming the game is fully playable. Have you watched that guys entire season 2? was he able to explore all of the islands? Maybe it has to do with something silly like adding a ship from the editor i saved from a previous game? Who knows, that's why I wanted to discuss it.
  2. I hated looking at the video because it makes me want to play and I cant LOL but it does plainly show that his boat moved on it's own. Are poltergeists a thing in Ylands?

    Sneak Peek #48

I absolutely agree with you on this point it certainly isn't your job or any other customers job to troubleshoot a game in early access. Some people enjoy that but for the most part people buy games because they enjoy playing games and game developers that rely too heavily on free labor from their customers place themselves at great risk of alienating their customers before a game is even released ( I should say finished here because the game is already for sale and that is what constitutes release). I think so far the official dev posts have been respectful requests and Ane has never failed to say please. I hope they stay respectful and remember that it takes customers to make them successful. I think the majority of players think the concept of the game is great but we can't play a concept that is at present unplayable for a lot of people. I really miss the days when games devs gave out free copies of games in exchange for beta testing because now somehow gamers have been duped into paying for concepts instead of finished games and i find it even more amazing that we actually buy into it, only twice for me and the first was a total disaster for the dev. What used to be give and take between gamers and devs is now take and take. The one and only reason I have submitted any bug reports or helped at all was the game currency that came with the purchase which i'll hopefully be able to spend once the game is finished which basically is at present worth a little more than the purchase price of the game. I'd like to see the game succeed but not to the point i'm willing to invest hours of my time helping them. In the end it's up to them as I said earlier to succeed or to fail. I think it's a terrible idea for players to pressure other players into working for free and an even worse idea for devs to pressure players. Just to be clear I haven't seen the devs here try to pressure players and i think they know they are the ones solely responsible for the outcome of this project. I think within 5 years only the most predatory game devs will still be using early access without any kind of real compensation and only the most uninformed gamers will still be buying into the insanity of buying a product on what is promised.
  4. Also I think he is referring to when chunks load and unload. By moving to the opposite side of the island the ship unloads from memory and reloads into memory when he moves back in range of the ship. I don't want to speak for him I am just relating how I interpreted what he wrote. I also must warn that I have been wrong about things a few times in the past Ships moving unintentionally is one problem I have never noticed.

    Sneak Peek #48

While I agree that playability should be the main focus I'd like to share some insight and correlations I have gained from 15 years as an industrial electrician / electronic technician. Different people have different natural talents and any kind of company has to put the talents to the best use if they want to be successful. Some people are more analytical and therefore make great troubleshooters. Some people are more creative and therefore make great designers. Some people are at their best when they are given a plan to follow. It makes no sense to take your followers and designers and throw them at troubleshooting when they can be more effective doing other jobs. As a sidebar I realize this is an oversimplification. I'm frustrated as well at not being able to play Ylands right now but as consumers there is nothing we can do besides make suggestions because they control what and how much talent is available to them and how they use it, not us. I watch the forums for news and make suggestions and report the bugs that affect me the most and then I go and be happy playing games that already work. At some point the will either succeed with Ylands or fail and we as consumers can't control that. Personally I hope they prevail.
  7. yes I believe it is part of the 0.7 update along with a few other new random sets.
  8. Let me ask you this. Please play a full single player exploration game all the way until you discover all of the possible islands, build ships, build a base do all the things associated with playing the single player explore as the game exists in its current iteration. Come back in a next week and If you can say you have done that and had no problems at all I would suggest uploading your save game to the devs as well so that they can maybe compare mine to yours and maybe find out what is different. I know the game worked in the past because I watched keralis' whole let's play in fact it's the only reason I bought an early access game (note that playthrough was before 0.7). My main point of this particular thread was not to report a problem that I already reported in the appropriate forum but to discuss other people's experience in playing it recently, after updates and hotfixes. Why? To see if there is a common thread, a commonality between playstyles or things we have done in the game that may be at the root of the problem. If if five or ten people posted here "yeah I just finished a total playthrough in single player explore mode after the last update and hotfixes and had no problems at all." I would say yeah I must be doing something wrong, but that hasn't happened. Myself and 1 other person related a recent experience and both experiences were similar. I'd love to hear positive ones as well. Assuming that I checked the wrong drive is not helpful at all. Even in MP mode which most posts have been about people are saying the experience is becoming worse after the latest update and hotfixes. The only thing i'm not seeing huge issues with is the Edit mode.
  9. Just because it doesn't hurt to check I did and chkdsk found no bad sectors. But I do disagree software that doesn't play nice can most certainly harm your system by overuse which causes wear on moving parts mainly hard drives when it comes to moving parts. Also software can harm electronics as well, not so much by heat in and of itself from overuse. The harm comes from repeated heating and cooling because of the expansion and contraction the differences in temperature cause. The more times you stress things the more likely they are to malfunction. Basically what i'm saying is that things wear out and if they are overused they will wear out faster and im not willing to let my HD die faster than it needs to. If you were to say Well behaved software won't destroy you're hardware faster than the normal life expectancy of the hardware I'd agree 100%. But this is getting out of the context of YLands so I won't bore people with examples.
  10. I was able to restore the last save game out of my trash bin but you guys don't allow drag and drop of save game files so i added .txt at the end. And just to add some perspective here the time it took to upload the file to you guys was considerably shorter than it was to actually save and exit the game. DUNHAM.ylandsgame.txt
  11. The issue is exactly the same as the one I previously reported and you guys already have the log files. As far as save games go, i've deleted ylands for the time being, as well as all related files so I don't get tempted into destroying my hard drive by continuing to play until i see that the issues have been resolved.

More uses for resin, sticks, etc

I use gravel to make piers. works best facing north. Nice cause it shows up on the map but it may not show up after the next update when they change the map for MP.

    Things You Didn't Know

rags galore when you find a vendor stand with a awning roof, just attack the awning and rags rags rags. in single player explore anyway. Shh dont tell the devs they'll prolly change it

    Wired Walls

I'm an electrician and dry wood is actually a pretty good insulator. Technically if we assume the inside of the log is dry it would work. The whole purpose of games is to have fun and when you start adding too much realism it becomes a strict simulator and ceases to be a game. I like the idea of wired building blocks being added to the game. Kudos to the OP.
  15. Trust me, single player is not technically done and if it is my review on steam will turn incredibly critical. I feel the exact opposite of you right now because I have not been able to fully explore the game in SP explore mode before it becomes unplayable and I have stayed out of MP because of what I read about the problems. Hopefully they will be able to make all modes of the game work in time but it's not going to be instant for anyone. My biggest criticism is about them selling the game in this state.

What if I don't want to sleep at night?

I don't play multiplayer yet and maybe I am misunderstanding but from what I've read if you have multiple players on a server all of the players have to sleep or no one can sleep. Is this correct? if this is correct and you expect new players to comply with the server sleep rules I would suggest a chest in the spawn area of the server have a chest containing sleeping pads this way there is no excuse for a new player not to sleep. If 90% of the players on at the time want to sleep because it's dark then make it as easy as possible for a new player to comply. This issue is the reason multiplayer games traditionally do not have sleeping but instead adopt a night cycle that is bright enough to continue playing while still being dark enough to give a sense of night. In my opinion any game mechanic should enhance the enjoyment of the game and as far as sleeping is concerned I do not see where the automatic passage of the day night cycle (sleeping) adds any enjoyment to the game as you are essentially doing nothing. Sure it adds realism but real isn't always fun. Mowing the lawn is real and i'd hate to see that added to a game like this. That said the game is not finished yet and I do not know if they plan on adding consequences to not sleeping. My suggestion to the dev team is make night time fun. Make it a part of the game and not a part to simply skip over.

    RESOLVED [YLD-8856] Craftsman Potion

In my experience with the single player game the magic blooms occurred the most in the areas of rainforest biomes that have a darker green appearance. It still seems to be random and i've seen them in most of not all biomes but they do bloom again after picking them up. I've had them rebloom before I moved out of range and went back and got another. I'm not sure of the mechanism that is used for reblooming but it seems to be often enough to have all i've needed. My strategy has been to build a small house in one of these areas if it's not my home yland and goof off and sleep collect other materials on that yland while waiting for them to rebloom, however as has been reported elsewhere time no longer passes while sleeping. I don't know what the final plan is for potions but some have a limited time of usage before the skill is gained another way like breathing underwater and flying. I've never used strength and haven't used crafting potion in a long time. I've never used any of the cosmetic ones. I understand in multiplayer the creator can put in vendors that sell this stuff but I'm not a creator so it's only second hand knowledge to me. Depending on the final recipe for crafting potions I may in the future just dig underground to put my kilns and smelters in 6's to save space above ground and save the crafting potion for things like energy work bench, chem station for gunpowder and locksmith table for bullets. If i ever decide to build in single player explore with steel I'll probably build 6 of the forge thingies too.
  18. I didn't know a smoothing tool was in the works but i have wished on several occasions to have a rake that would be used for smoothing.
  19. I'd like to ask a question because I noticed from very limited experience using the editor mode to move my boat from one explore game to a new one that the mouse click placing it down is so sensitive for some reason that I sometimes when placing the ship wind up with 2 ships instead of one. The difference with me is that it's quite apparent and im able to delete the extra one with no problem. My question is does this seem like a possibility in your case? I assume the fault is with some bounce in the switch in my mouse but felt like it wouldn't hurt to ask.

More uses for resin, sticks, etc

I've used all the sticks, bark and wood pieces that I had making charcoal for the ships steam engines. But more uses for them is a good idea as well as more uses for resin and maybe even the little rocks. I won't spoil it but there are more blocks out there that we can't craft yet that I have discovered so I think there are plans to expand at some point.
  21. Wouldn't it be fascinating if they could devise a system where player compositions made by players that give consent could be in the random distribution of things in explore games? I'd be tickled pink to stumble across something like the ship in the glass sphere made by a very talented player whose name eludes me (my memory for names is not what it used to be, actually come to think of it remembering names never was a thing for me). I'm not talking about whole bases or huge castles but little scenes similar to what the devs use already like little cabins where you find them and wonder "Hmm what happened here?" I'm not saying the devs should do this as I don't know if its within the scope of their plans but I think it would add a lot of variety.

Q&A video - ask us anything!

Will blocks of terrain ever be a thing? We can already place sand, dirt and gravel by holding and it kind of glooping it out but its kind of haphazard and acts differently when facing different directions. Will mannequins ever be a thing? I'm betting it's in the plan somewhere because of the variety of clothing we are able to find.
  23. In the explore game I don't think they use every asset in every game as I have found different things in different games and It's one of the reasons I didn't mind having to restart everytime the save game got too big for the game to handle. Right now i'm afraid of my hard drive going bad so im not playing until they announce a solution. But im still hyped to play again when they do.

    RESOLVED [YLD-8856] Craftsman Potion

Just to juxtapose a little between stone and wood building blocks and steel and brick building blocks which require crafting stations: Stone and wood blocks can be crafted as fast as you can click and the way the crafting potion used to be allowed that for steel and brick as well. The result of the crafting potion change for me is I no longer use steel or brick blocks and I use multiple crafting stations for the other things like charcoal, cloth, glass and ingots. The point I'm trying to make is building is fun, being creative is fun, exploring is fun, sitting and waiting a minute while 9 chunks of charcoal get made? Do I even have to say it? Ok I will, not fun.
