ship hull improvements an easy fix/addition?
Energritz_ replied to kimbuck's question in Suggestions & Feedback
Gonna go out here on a limb here, i would rather much prefer ships be fixed before enhancing them further with features. -
Agree with the idea for manual planting, however only if its not on the spawn island. Spawn island should have a self regenerating system for those that are new, and a mechanism to kick those out who are hoarding

For all players out there... please do not do this... from a DS operator perspective, not only is this annoying to have and remove but it does take a performance hit for the server.. especially when its more than just a "personal supply"

How long does your server last in Multiplayer?
Energritz_ replied to Indian Chief's topic in General Discussion
I Should note our particular server has been around since ~17th Jan this year or version 0.6 We are also Australian, only 1 of 2 ( 2nd one comes and goes ) that's public in PA region. tbh honest unless you play several hours a day, and have moderator(s), banning items never works.... there is no policing or enforcing to it.. From experience people will do whatever they want if they want to... you can't stop them unless you have active staff playing all hours... there is no logging of players actions.. which also makes administration non existent.. especially when staff are away. I certainly cannot be online every time, and since the 0.7 fiasco server has been real quiet... i certainly got frustrated to a point i almost threw it all in... it's only very recently i have starting playing again... when i can. My current policy on running the server is, providing a better experience than official servers, stability, reliability, up time, Active admin that maintains the server, which can be an issue on official servers. I keep the server up for the community, and a hope that soon... DS will get a big update making it real nice to run. -
edit: resolved!

How long does your server last in Multiplayer?
Energritz_ replied to Indian Chief's topic in General Discussion
Initially on a Windows VPS with 8GB ram, which would be ok for ~48hrs before needing a reboot, now on a hosted service due to costs of running windows vps.. and the issues that the DS comes with to not make it worth it... I know the host is a Windows 8 system due to the logs.. -
Nice work kb, but in reality ships need some protection though

How long does your server last in Multiplayer?
Energritz_ replied to Indian Chief's topic in General Discussion
I have noticed from previous saves that once it reaches around ~20MB in size, it starts to degrade.. and generally when "proactive maintenance" becomes a chore, aka "cleaning corpses and junk items". I also logged in one day, loaded in fine, started making my way to a island ( live in the ocean ) and when it started loading in.. server crashed.. since then i wait and then for it to "catch up" in order for it to not crash.. -
How long does your server last in Multiplayer?
Energritz_ replied to Indian Chief's topic in General Discussion
All comes down to popularity and Geo Location, as for me, server is super small, some occasional players, however we are in the oceanic region so less population overall so basically near 0% demand.. Server has been live since 0.8.. still going. I don't get much time to play, but when i do its few a few hours at a time. Edit: Editing for clarity, the server has reset itself various amount times due to unknown reasons.. i check in each day and i might find 3-5 log files.. indicating it tripped at some point and rebooted ( auto reboot part of the hosting service features ), i check these logs and nothing to point out why the server tripped. -
May i suggest not to use official servers? unmonitored/unmoderated and use community player driven ones. You're experience would probably be a better one overall, that is if you participate with the community itself. Otherwise solo on official servers is fine, so long as you leave the spawn island asap, and things get 80% immediately better when you settle somewhere else.

Ylands City Roleplay - Economy, housing, jobs, loans and careers!
Energritz_ replied to RedEagle_P1.'s topic in General Discussion
nice, i am interested on how it works behind the scenes though -
It will not stop them, but will make it really difficult for them
Energritz_ replied to kimbuck's topic in General Discussion
Nice work, however i wonder if explosive barrels work or don't work inside a barrier, my last ships were discovered and blown up with this method... since then i haven't bothered with ships or customizing them -
I think some kind of GUI on the HUD with a hunger meter would be beneficial. and maybe a 10min timer...

Is this for real?! Ylands Android game
Energritz_ replied to handofthesly's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, yet annoying when someone steals other peoples work... Looking at the picture, the health bars look like they have been copied pasted in, or a very bad design job.. the Directional touch stick on the right, should be on the left, unless you're left handed.. this would be difficult to play.. the buttons seem to be ripped from a xbox layout... bleh Last update: December 26, 2017 < this one is not listed on google play, but might have different name And on an unofficial site which i would not trust to touch or download... however, just a brief search on play store brings up this "Your lands of dreams" which was last updated 22nd Dec 17 < also a direct rip off, listed Both haven't been updated since last year, which would mean lots of issues unresolved... Advice for anyone curious about these "apps" that are not on google play, do not download or attempt to play them, you do not know what they are doing in the background, collecting data or possibly infecting the phone in some way. Its not worth the risk. Same applies if they are on google play or apple equivalent don't support them by not downloading them. -
[Exploit/MP Gamebreaking] Protective Barrier does not prevent terrian/item exploitation
Energritz_ posted a question in Suggestions & Feedback
[Exploit/Bug/Protective Barrier/Terrain/item/Glitch] Since there isn't much voice about this issue, ( A few similar posts ) today i did a server spawn area clean up, after the CPU idle % was around 35%, from ~5% initially, expecting the worst and i was not surprised. I currently host a Server for the Public if they so choose to use, i have put [Beta] tags on the server title, so people know what to expect. I personally play on the server, knowing full well things can break, however i do not live on the spawn island, so i don't have these issues. Note: All these places in theses pictures are under a Protective Barrier, people have added their own flare to other peoples areas. This exploit would need to addressed ASAP or Dedi Servers ( especially public ones ) will not survive and die out. eventually. ( These areas have now been cleaned up by me in the editor, which took 1-2hrs to complete , thankfully its a small server after the cleanup, CPU returned to around ~8% idle ! ) Below is an example of people not knowing about the issue at hand, unlucky for the owner left a stairway to the roof. These are players who are not at spawn but not far from it either. Another house taken advantaged of A shed house of the first picture.. And lastly a WIP underground base.. now ruined.. -
Hmm I believe that due to the 0.7 MP/DS issues it hurt the community quite a bit, now that 0.8 is out, and is running really nicely, its what we should of had in 0.7. It will take some time to get people back in the game, however people need to be informed of such fixes in order for them to come back and try it out, they won't come back by themselves, unless they have stuck it out like the active people here have. I'm no PR/HR/marketing person, but if the team wants more players playing their game, they need to promote/spread the game through various channels, however you don't to do that if you have a game with game breaking bugs, which 0.7 introduced... hopefully with 0.8 they can turn that around. naturally if you're a supporter of the game you can chose to spread the news about the game through social networks and forums, every bit helps. Also I've seen many "dying" threads in many games before, where the active/playing community shrugs it off, and and any new potential players on the forums and see's this and thinks "whoa... maybe i should rethink about this game" a better title would have a good choice, but no human is perfect.

Well done team, nice set of fixes you have there! im impressed. Been running the DS for 30mins now and i have been playing, the gameplay is smooth and great, no hickups/stuttering/micro lagg/pauses (yet), 0.8 seems to be MP's savoir for now. will have to test for longer, but so far no problems. @kimbuck Steam was down before i logged on today 30mins ago.. update was there for me, might have something to do with steam being down.

eta on video? it's nearing the end of the month.

Why do i get the feeling they are trying to phase out the DS? all i could see is back peddling.. but that's my opinion. (yes I'm salty over 0.7 MP/DS issues.. deal with it) hmm i have a few opinions on this.. As a DS operator, cloud save system is basically just a locked DS Server essentially... lock it up and basically you have the same system, except its available 24/7, doesn't rely on p2p systems, and lagg from p2p is a non issue.. (p2p = peer to peer), because not everyone has a stable internet connection... and this cloud system would run on this system. from my perspective, MP/DS systems need to be worked on first, then aux systems... this just creates more work in my opinion is redundant. sure it provides more ways to play, but the DS system in place can already do this with a bit of config, which then comes into, fixing the original systems in place in the first place so that these extra systems would not be needed.. such as working on a linux distro, cutting down costs of running a DS.. significantly.. not saying you can't do this already with hosted services.. but cost/config seems to be factor here currently, fixing these would solve the need for the above.

[Exploit/MP Gamebreaking] Protective Barrier does not prevent terrian/item exploitation
Energritz_ replied to Energritz_'s question in Suggestions & Feedback
@Sir_Duck why you digging up a 2 month old post? .... i don't get it -
Great idea in theory, would crash the game in practice. Might work for SP, however in MP/DS Games this would cause untold amounts of lagg.. as a DS Operator i don't want to deal with that nightmare, not until everything is fixed MP side. Coming from MP side, since the game is ideally wanting to be tuned for 8~10 players, having seamless worlds doesn't make sense, if you went exploring, you probably never see anyone again..making it effectively a SP game.. having 8~10 players with around 12 islands is probably the sweet spot in this case. There has been talk making the edges of world teleport you to the opposite end of the map when you cross them, which would work quite well i think
-
This comes back to what i originally said to the devs.. but was brushed off.. The save file cannot hold everything.. this in turn will cause lagg.. shoving everyone's characters, items spawn, world data, in a file will cause issues... From experience running servers any file that goes over the 20MB mark tends to start slowing down servers and lagg starts at regular intervals.. I personally think not having shoved into a single save will solve some lagg issues... having separate files for characters and accounts and world data, would probably improve things. lessen the size of the save file overall, probably to only a few MB's.. thus making it a non issue.. also less need for using the editor for changing things, less server downtime.. But I'll get brushed off again by the dev's... they wont even trial it...

Opinion: This game is not ready to leave early access
Energritz_ replied to RedEagle_P1.'s topic in General Discussion
Well we will just have to see how things are in 3 months, so Mid June then, which leave another 2 before 1.0. I really do hope for the sake the game things are fixed before leaving EA. -

Energritz_ replied to RedEagle_P1.'s topic in General Discussion
As a DS operator, I also agree, this game is not ready for EA > Release. I can only really speak from a DS/MP perspective, as 99% my time is spent on it, 1% in editor for "maintenance". There is far too many problems with the DS/MP still, i do not believe, based on the release cycle currently (~1month between patches) that all these bugs will be squashed by the projected 1.0 release. From what i heard 1.0 was slated for August, however it's march now around ~5months, and based on whats in the releases forum, this make releases approx 1.5~2month cycles currently
