On the subject of Padlocks again ... 

I can't seem to lock any doors or containers/chests. It works on ship helms, engines, car driver seats, cannons, levers and workstations but not chests, doors or energy switches. 

Is it meant to be this way?

Also, is it possible to rename the padlocks? Say I've created one for my ship and called the padlock after the ships name - The Jolly Roger for example. But then I want to take the padlock off and use it on a different ship - The Black Pearl - but the padlock is still called The Jolly Roger. Anyway of changing the name?

Sorry about that one! :) It should already be fixed in the version you're playing  - be sure to let us know if you still wouldn't be able to find those recipes.

This is the  AUG 11  announcement where they said the old launcher would no longer update and everyone needs to switch over to the STEAM version for updated clients:

I’ve already told you we’re working on the Steam version of the game and that the current players will get the Steam keys. The moment when this will happen is quite near now (you will be receiving your keys via email and there will be a specific post about this before it happens). The new information is that in a few days we plan to stop selling the non-Steam Ylands version on our online store, meaning that from that moment till November 2017, when Ylands becomes officially available for purchase on Steam, there will be no way to acquire additional copies of the game (with exception of media).

For obvious reasons, it is not an easy decision for us to make, but we feel it’s the right thing to do because of several reasons:

* since we’re going to Steam anyway we’d rather stop working on/supporting the non-Steam version sooner than later and concentrate more on polishing the Steam version (which we hope you, the current players - soon to be early Steam adopters - will help us with)

* continuing selling the non-Steam version through our store when we know that it will be discontinued soon and players will have to move to Steam anyway seems rather unfair and misleading

* we don’t have a huge number of players right now, but more than enough for us to work with for the upcoming months so that we enter Steam in a great shape – which right now is our primary goal

So yes,  for some time you will become the exclusive group of people, the only ones with the access to the game who can brag about it to your friends, who will have to wait before the game comes out on Steam :). 

Jokes aside though - we value the fact that you are here with us - many of you for a really long time. It’s something we won’t forget. When we get to Steam we will show to every single one of you that we appreciate your help with making Ylands a better game - and we’re talking about way more than just giving you some commemorative ingame item.

If you wonder what changes you will experience during this stage (before we come to Steam) – except for you playing the game on Steam pretty much everything will remain the same. You will be getting at least the same amount of support and you will even get a whole new update with NPCs.""

  • We tried to fix the falling through the terrain issue in general, but since there are problems reproducing the bug we are not sure if it is fixed in all cases, so:
    • If you die while you are falling to eternity you will keep all your items from the inventory/equipment on your new character
    • To make eternity shorter you will die from freezing sooner

Nice changelog! will this be the "final version" before steam launch @Ane (besides some hotfixes of course, so let's go bug hunting Ylanders).

Positive Feedback::P

Just  loaded the update and   did i bit of  ylanding before my  breakfast  .. and  you guys rock!

The interface  changes are  great.

While using a shovel , it worked efficiently,  not  hit and miss like it  used to do ... and   holes don't  appear in the  ground.  Also  dirt and sand  dug by the  shovel  whilst leveling  terrain do not  go   into your inventory cluttering it up,  but instead  drop nearby...  very good!

Looking through the changelog, its apparent that you guys  do pay attention to whats reported, and  you do take action.  Ylands will really  take off  after the steam release!

So far everything  looks  ok ..except we still  getting "land sharks" ...( see screenshot)  ..makes  easy  meal :D

The area is outside  my sleeping  quarters, and is "reclaimed"  land  from the ocean. Maybe  that's a clue  for a  fix? ...sharks  that need glasses so they can determine whats  water and  whats the shoreline:S ?

Will be  taking  my new ship out to sea later today  for a shakedown cruise...will let you  know  how the sharks  behave there.

Took my large ship out  for a trip around my Yland...sharks were well behaved,   however a seagull ran into the side of my ship and caused it to rock violently,  then  spun the  stern around as the seagull "slid" along the  side of the ship.   Later, when preparing to dock  and under  half  sail,  another seagull collided with the front of the ship causing it to veer off course.

Looks like  seagulls  here have the  density of  Turkeys......:D

Ok ... confirming   that if a seagull  or  other sea bird  in full flight  runs into your  ship when its under sail. it causes a  "thud"  and the  ship will rock  violently...  and for a while  controls  become  un-responsive. If the bird  gets  trapped in your superstructure, the ship will veer off course,  and will  remain unmanageable  until after the  sea  bird  manages to  free itself and escape.

* Check of antivirus software interferance, try whitelisting game directory in antivirus

HIGHLIGHTS

Players in newly created Exploration games now start with a broken Protection barrier generator (those in already active games will find one in their inventory or next to them). After they fix it, they can activate the barrier. Having one active has numerous advantages, like easier adjustments to already built structures and those being protected from other players, or making your character safe when logging off inside of it. For more information consult the ingame Codex (accessible via F1).

Dedicated servers are once again working. Please note that those are in beta stage and buggy - those are not the new command line based DS planned for the next year. Also, it is NOT part of the standard game distribution - if you want to take part in testing it, let us know. If you already have in the past, we will be contacting you soon.

* A warning is shown when moving away from the area containing ylands (preventing sailing for hours without encountering a dry land)

Please note that with this update being released our Dedicated Servers will be wiped and your progress on them will be lost.

Well, i got my Hopes up,
But Still, have the Crafting menu scroll CTD issue :(

I'm not complaining, it is, after all, an Alpha version.
But escaping to a Secluded Yland is just the thing I need right now.
