I did, also got a university title in it :D

And thanks! I'm gonna see whether I can use the windshield on my other ships as well :)

Ey Adrie. I have made a rather biggish ship but now I have to decorate the inside, and I believe you're the expert on that party so I wondered if u could give me some tips. Its a cross between a war ship and a superyacht, as big as they can get in this game. I could post a screenshot but only with your permsission since its your shipyard :/

sure here. the lower deck is a very big empety canvas, got a engine room in the back but you can expect a floor area 6 blocks wider then the large ship hull and the lengt is from front till the last window. then there is a smaller area on the maindeck, behind the white windows. also the steering hut needs some love.

my steam name is henkheijmen, ill add you

Hey all! Today's build is dedicated to @kimbuck and her fight against the sharks!

I wanted to research the issue and study the sharks behavior, so I had to find a way to observe them and follow them underwater, safe and fast!

yellow%20sub.jpg

This is my yellow submarine! It's built after the submarine on the cover for the Beatles' song "the Yellow Submarine".

Ylands_171010_222355.thumb.png.5b871bc7069609f518334a12058faf71.png

Let's start off with the technical side! It's actually built on a large car chassis instead of a boat chassis, to be able to get under water and drive over the sea bottom. To prevent the engines from stalling they are located on a huuuuge periscope. This can be done using a technique I discussed in another topic:

The problem with having such a long mast is that the car wanted to tip over, but the chassis tries to keep it upright. The car kept moving like a pendulum on the bottom of the sea and every time the engines submerge the car loses all it's power. To prevent this, I've added a load of engines in the bottom of the submarine. In every engine you see are 2 more engines to put in more weight! The driving underwater finally becomes doable, sort of. I've tested it with shorter snorkels and driving under water is funny in general, no matter the car's balance.

Ylands_171010_222416.thumb.png.7c32f1e5b633eccfda338f97ba1e8aec.pngYlands_171010_222413.thumb.png.4622253b290a8a223c5f6050dc6ffa46.png

The inside of the submarine is very cramped as most space is reserved for the ballast. I could've used a rope ladder and put some more seats in, but I might do that at a later time :)  For now, let's see a short test of how it works and look for some sharks!

Ylands_171010_222511.thumb.png.f6f4ecc545368ee76073c43172e0a59c.pngYlands_171010_222737.thumb.png.78985d7bf7283342aa0a7e5a67631aaf.pngYlands_171010_222821.thumb.png.eb427b190f7af6e28ea2df31a6acb75f.png

I've first tried to reach the island, which went perfect! Next was a short depth test:

Ylands_171010_222935.thumb.png.3ff8cf51ad8e85385ce2610076b2dd05.pngYlands_171010_222947.thumb.png.5c1a55b2e723e5e3bf722cec402ff599.png

At this depth the periscope still sticks out a lot above the surface, so I can go a lot deeper still! When driving on the surface the car does wiggle, so when you go deeper the engine occasionally drowns for a few seconds. The handbrake stabilizes the car and if on flat terrain, raises the engine above the water again. Now let's investigate some sharks!

Ylands_171010_223226.thumb.png.9aab685e38affcb95ec9e9f619bcb3fc.pngYlands_171010_223327.thumb.png.2a4484615c21237caeb712a992f81815.pngYlands_171010_223338.thumb.png.81163d5e1461cd242ad37ae6dc82bed9.pngYlands_171010_223346.thumb.png.a79110a805a120787ba9d0686ab01c79.pngYlands_171010_223358.thumb.png.0347db3791c82368ab377481b42eb038.png

It only took me less than a minute to find a shark! However it seemed to show no interest in me, instead the shark tried to flee! I've tried to throw some bait in the water, keep it in the sub, but to no effect. After chasing it, more and more sharks joined it and they all went in the same direction. Where they taking me somewhere?

Ylands_171010_223436.thumb.png.e3493316fb52a3c583b03823494b77e6.png

Unfortunately my chase had to stop early as my submarine got stuck in a ditch :( I managed to get it out a few minutes later but the sharks were gone. Were they playing me or did they want to show me something? This story will be continued!

will post a pic of  my next attempt at a  shark resistant ship ...planning to build a false decking  above the  existing deck   with an  elevated  helm. My theory is that the sharks cannot  move though an air  gap above the waterline.. thats why they don't attack  through  stone  mooring decking. .. i think   ;-)

You have to give  credit to the games developers for  providing a platform  for  creativity.

I am compiling a  list of  tips to  help new starters  get a hold on the game  without  getting  despondent with continual respawning.  The island i am on at the moment has  just as many tombstones as there are oak trees!

Does your   yellow  submarine have  windows?    ( evil grin...)

I have proce thats not the case i believe.

as you can see the two sharks are located at the second sec on my ship and one is crawling the stairs to my hut

well, that  busts all my theories!  These sharks can pass through  wood,  stone  and climb  to amazing  elevations out of  water.  I shudder  to think  how they will react to aircraft...         Shark  hijacks  at 30,000 metres?

I notice that  the   attacks usually  occur  after you release the controls to   either  snack or    read  your  map.

Finding a way to  defeat these creatures  is  sure  becoming a challenge.

Will the  developers  be  considering   giant   kraken  next?  ..or  perhaps  whales? or  maybe  porpoises/dolphins  you can follow  to other islands..

I've been wanting to make a house for quite a long time in Ylands but up until now I never was really happy with them... They are either too big, too boring or just too expensive to make in the explore gamemode. I've set myself a few goals to make one and gave it another go.

The requirements I've set were:

Explore gamemode minded: It had to be sort of safe/secure, bearing in mind the upcoming energy barrier generator, so not too big of a footprint and preferably rather square as I guess the barrier's footprint is gonna be square or round.

Easy to mine/acquire main materials,

The possibility to place plants nearby to keep it sustainable, or another source of food,

Enough storage space and all the work stations, this should be my main hideout,

Preferable near the water so I can keep my ships and boats at home,

Expandable, so it can grow with me as I get further and further in the game.

After trying to build a nice house in the polar biome, I found that there's not enough resources there, especially ores, to make that a viable option. Instead I've tried to explore the option of open sea bases and fortresses. My first little sea house is here:

Ylands_171105_143438.thumb.png.d08d2fff6e67825e5ab92d4213bce4f1.pngYlands_171105_143446.thumb.png.da1c1e9e7bf58f450a967cad9b23fb0e.pngYlands_171105_143450.thumb.png.9909df6dbb11c1a4e0c373a2a85a565a.pngYlands_171105_143501.thumb.png.42d2c882391955c325e4766deb1592a9.png

It's built mainly of bamboo and wood, 2 of the most common, easy to get resources. Both are 100% sustainable, so expanding the base in this style should be very easy and cheap. Although at the moment I haven't got any place to plant any trees or other plants I could either make a small platform on poles or place a ship hull to function as a barge.

Ylands_171105_143508.thumb.png.474f4e2964bb4ebc750b26e8d0e99db8.png

Here's a small pier. The pier will not be protected but isn't that valuable or prone to grief I think :)

Here's the entrance. It's the only way of getting in and out, even though the rest of the house looks very open!

Upon entering the house you enter my work room. Here you find my workplace with the crafting stations :)

Around the corner at the tanning rack you'll find my bedroom :) To get some more privacy and to keep the mosquitoes away I can close the curtains on the bed :)

Either from the bedroom or the crafting place you can access my storage and cooking space. There's a few chests/drawers there, and a ladder to access the chest on top of the bedroom.

Ylands_171105_143748.thumb.png.01c96219a4ee278acfc4d1030ae6baec.png

Finally in the back with a nice view is my lounge place. It features 2 comfy arm chairs and a bamboo bed, should any of you want to stay over :)

I think overall I managed to get a lot of my requirements fitted in this building. I hope the shield generator will be big enough to cover the entire house! The main disadvantage is that I only use 1 floor and there for lose a lot of space for storage etc, but I think the house looks better this way and there's enough storage room for now :)

Thanks for watching/reading!

With 0.6 upcoming, I'm preparing to paint my last few ships, so I thought I'd show you guys my actual shipyard :)

As with my house, the design should be useful in explore, so easy to get materials and easy/repetitive to build. Because of this I decided to build it with limited height, so ships will have to be built/repaired with their masts taken down.

 20171116182838_1.thumb.jpg.50e484344affdae44423e9131ba7346d.jpg20171116182847_1.thumb.jpg.299e1b965d1a32172880b8d81c955285.jpg

Like my house, it uses the same materials and is built on water. It's more "closed", by using lots of slopes. It's very repetitive to build, and therefor easy and quite quick to do :)

20171116182946_1.thumb.jpg.275c3d79e749e763ff7aa21a11caceff.jpg

20171116182957_1.thumb.jpg.813be1524f519e04cde950e9b3fd5a3d.jpg20171116183016_1.thumb.jpg.c774a18e928fd633e94c732bdd13b036.jpg

I haven't decorated the interior yet, but there's enough space to store lots of shipbuilding materials and place some crafting stations on either of the 2 floors. Currently inside is my sail yacht Chernogorsk, with it's masts removed. You can move it in/out by using the backup engines :)

20171116183034_1.thumb.jpg.7a5f3765c5a0a71a076689f3ba425068.jpg20171116183041_1.thumb.jpg.48e150b90886257aa0e019c13d556a0b.jpg20171116183052_1.thumb.jpg.213477b1911636d8da3f03f6a2369c25.jpg20171116183057_1.thumb.jpg.242fdd0b4e6f9e6277c89f12dad8622a.jpg20171116183115_1.thumb.jpg.93550640ab0beaffb89717660a07bdbe.jpg20171116183154_1.thumb.jpg.4ba37d4678a372a1227853c227164f5a.jpg

Here's some more detailed/better views. Inside I can "freeplace" wooden panels to make walkways to get on my ships while they are there. When the ship is done, I can simply pick them up and move them around.

20171116184538_1.thumb.jpg.2e44972ca2ebc9475cf843248d4af9ce.jpg20171116184604_1.thumb.jpg.d6c25bd79fde3f1d60e18f8cc605f628.jpg20171116184556_1.thumb.jpg.517e9f55084c6f90bdfda3d90046380b.jpg

Here's some views of the wooden timber frame with the roof/walls moved out of the way. It's a fairly straight forward build, which doesn't take much more than a lot of wood and bamboo :)

Thanks for having a look and commenting!

Would you be up for putting these things on the workshop? Your ships, The shipyard, I absolutely LOVE these things and just don't posses the skill to replicate this! also if you would like to have your work put on a relatively popular server(s) I am a member of People First Gaming and we are ALWAYS looking for people who enjoy YLands to join and play with us! our Discord is: https://discord.gg/dbFXShw

These are extremely awesome creations and we would love to play with these and to ask about your expertise in these things! I hope you put these awesome creations on the workshop and join our group of people!

I am struggling to make a trimaran based around the Boat in Exploration and Creative. I can't get outriggers to stick to the boat when it is balancing out on the removable pier as shown on the first post. Does that trick still work?

Can someone add their new creation here? Need good ideas for us newbies.

I think half the fun of games like this is what I consider the other half of the game which is researching different types of real world architecture.  The internet is full of recognizable architectural icons which can be impressive when built in games.  My favorite thing to do is mix and match features of existing buildings of the same architectural type to create something new.
