RESOLVED Horse tamed, i died, cant mount.
kimbuck replied to GeekSqueek's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
If you have a knife, craft a wooden spear...or a stone spear. Then you are less likely to chop down the bush. If you make it to high ground, make sure there's no objects nearby to deflect your defensive blows. Wolves are in packs so avoid them when you see several close by. A wolf will growl first... face it, move to a defensive area and wait until it rushes you .. then dispatch it with your weapon. if you can craft a bow and arrows, a long range attack will cause the group to split up where you can handle each individually. Pumas leopards etc tend to be more sneaky and will mount surprise attacks. Bears will search for your scent and when they spot you, they will chase and follow. They are harder to kill but the fur coat etc are worth the effort. -
You have to start somewhere.... everyone's the same. If you don't ask questions you will not get answers and you will never know! These forums are here to help!

The new crafting tree rendered my previous yland obsolete, as it and the surrounding ylands did not have rubber trees etc , and the update promised more...including a bigger yland. So the Yland of Despotica has been created, and I, the "Dear Leader" ...or despot ... - is running riot creating items to assist in my preparation to takeover the world My base is still in its early stages, but i can show a screenshot of the twin dockyards, one containing the magnificent exploration vessel, the "S.S. Rockbottom", which features a spike laden stern to discourage amorous sharks. Note the seagull statue at the bow! As i progress , more screenshots will appear, hopefully giving other Ylanders Ideas and encouragement as to what can be done... I also found some old coins while digging...will the developers allow them to be traded for ' coyns" ?

weight was not an issue. I have since since moved to a new game to take advantage of the 0.6 updates (ie rubber etc) and built a new ship in that game that's not so overburdened. We don't get the sharks trying to climb on board anymore so a lot of the protection is not needed. The front ramp and stairs i have retained as they are handing when landing to explore new Ylands.

we are lucky there's no sex in ylands! Imagine the forum posts if there was....

Fishing for Rare and even Legendary Fish on the High Seas
kimbuck replied to Marco Oliveira's question in Suggestions & Feedback
Hmmm ...... we can craft dynamite... that's called " instant bait" ...but i wouldn't use it on "porpoise" -
Hammers and chisels seem to break too easily! I had to craft 9 iron hammers ( i had to make a stone hammer first... station still would not recognize my remaining iron hammer.) In 30 minutes i had 8 broken hammers and 2 broken chisels! obviously you cannot get the good stuff anymore! What is annoying is you have 4 hammers in inventory, and then craft dome blocks and panels. it shows you have 4 hammers while crafting. Suddenly you have 0 hammers and crafting stops ...check inventory all 4 are broken ...including the stone one you used to craft the iron hammers with! Obviously there' some tweaking to be done in this area...

Fishing for Rare and even Legendary Fish on the High Seas
kimbuck replied to Marco Oliveira's question in Suggestions & Feedback
Perhaps the presence of a surfacing whale in front of a ship could be used as a indicator you are moving too far away away from known land and best to turn back ..? -
When comparing Fixes here to miracles, miracles take a little longer. What makes this game enjoyable is that you guys read these forums and act.. All we need is a little patience Sometimes, it pays to read through the forums of reported issues and see whats being done, rather than jump up and down sounding upset... it just takes a little time, as is proven here! Enjoying the game ... keep up the good work!

RESOLVED [YLD-8122] Rag-Doll Ship Body
kimbuck replied to matheny.dylan's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
I had no difficulty with a large ship . perhaps the pieces are technically outside the limits of a small ship ..? try a smaller a sail ..? -
RESOLVED Animal over population OUT of hand
kimbuck replied to arkaeldren's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Land sharks are a nuisance.... but provide easy food if you remove them with a sword. I once had one hovering outside the window of my sleeping quarters! ..no wonder i got the message " not d safe to sleep here" Only other suggestion is to go "anti -environmental-ist" and start a culling campaign. remember , they only animated pixels ... -
RESOLVED flying stones
kimbuck replied to Morpheus-99e8a62aa6b023cd's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
You could try building a bridge from dirt up to their level and then either hammering them into oblivion, or harvesting them..? -
perhaps in the future they could introduce a recipe for gravel + sand + crushed marble = cement blocks ?

RESOLVED Steam powered ship driving irratic
kimbuck replied to Scott937's question in Bugs & Technical Issues
check for seagulls wedged in superstructure... -
Seagulls are as deadly as air to sea missiles! If the get lodged in or under your ship superstructure, the ship will nearly turn over! Its been reported .... if yous ship will not move...look for one wedged in the ship somewhere. If they are landed the ship will stop when they reach a barrier.. but if they start to fly when you try to swat them .. the ship goes crazy. be careful trying to remove a seagull this way ..if you miss and keep hitting your ship deck .. you might destroy your ship ..or helm They seemed to have fixed a similar issue when sharks would get stuck in your ships keel... with similar effects

Things just get better and better! Wot... no Christmas cake recipes?

Craft a map .. place it in a dynamic slot ... you need a pencil as well then go to a high spot on your island, open map and note your facing direction....via the compass. Look for high flying birds and face in the direction they are going/coming ...and note that compass bearing. Otherwise sail in increasing circles around you spawn island. Its a matter of luck, skill and randomness ... I have sailed for a whole day only to find a chain of islands running n/w of my spawn island ..all close together ..i missed the guiding bird due to a storm Also some islands can have dual biomes... I encountered one that was desert on one side....... with massive sulphur, copper and saltpeter deposits, and on the other side .. tropical conditions with rubber trees and coal ..and about a dozen hungry leopards and pumas that would spring out of nowhere without warning! Also look under your ship .... if you see no weeds or sharks on the ocean floor your in open waters and might be better to turn back. Watch out for computers floating in the ocean.... best not to collect them ...usually there's an aircraft wreck on the floor nearby and the ocean littered with what looks like a severed torso and limbs floating around ... a hint there's sharks lurking down there !

New Ships?? if you can add them.
kimbuck replied to UboatIsMeinBoat's question in Suggestions & Feedback
different ship hulls would be good! Maybe landing craft with drop down front for transporting animals/vehicles. A Better bow and aft shape that would allow more variety in superstructures -
Recipe for Medieval windows *consumes* Hammer?
kimbuck replied to Duck L'Orange's topic in General Discussion
I believe this is a known issue thats being fixed ... also the blacksmith station does not recognize a iron hammer when you are crafting more iron hammers ...you need a stone hammer as well! Iron hammers don't last long ...perhaps theres room for the inclusion of a more durable steel hammer later on? -
By the way, whenever i do encounter a fps drop in any game , i check the disk activity light. Despite the most p to date firewall, antivirus and antispamware, the creators of theses nuance always seem to be able to drop something into you computer. I do a regular clean out of my system for malware... and also i dont have a lot of useless "apps" clogging my system. Most of the time a fps drop is because some rogue program is tryn g to send your personal data to others in the background.

I am ruining an i3 with 16 gig ram os, and a 500 gig HD + a 1 Tb external drive with a nividia gtx 750 2 gig graphics card. I store all my videos and other stuff on the external drive to free up the CPU. I do get lag spikes during sailing only, but then i am in a remote area of Australia connected to the internet via adsl2...and knotted wet string. The occasional moment or two freezing is not of concern to me... and its less frequent that what i get on other games.

With the recent updates, and the availability of Ylands on steam Dec. 6 2017, some of the previous tips are no longer appicable It can be frustrating arriving, not knowing whats what and ending up as a predator meal. Hers some tips ...not spoilers.. 1) Note your spawn point and construct something to help identify it. This is so later on when you v have items you can come back and enhance it with items needed to survive. During the game, visit it often and place some containers... put in the containers superseded weapons... ie stone spears wood spears etc. Also put in some basic clothing, a torch, flint lighter, food axe knife and wood pieces etc. place a marker thats hightly visible...and also add a lantern. if you are so inclined maybe a small log shelter. Some wooden spikes will help to act as a anti predator barrier. 2) Upon Initial arrival, look for grass flint, stone and sticks. Craft a knife . then you can fashion a wooden spear .. great for initial defense. Collect and store feathers for later weapons, and stock up on food. 3) Predators.... if you see sharks near the shore they could be guarding an escape route for a land predator or two nearby. When exploring do not run everywhere... take small movements, keeping to higher areas so you can look down on any predators and scan around you 4) weapons .. spears are essential early in the game for close in defense. as your crafting expands. grab a sabre.... very effective against wolves and pumas etc. Crossbows are the best for long range stealth attack on bears, but not for wolves as they will rush you and the bow / crossbow reload time is not quick enough 5) Predator characteristics... bears will awaken and search for your scent ... keep back and kill at long range with a bow/crossbow.. close in combat with a sabre if a surprise attack. Wolves will growl and warn ....wait then attack ..a sabre is the best, a spear 2nd choice. Try to move to a higher open area otherwise your weapon will miss the beast and strike nearby objects instead. Wolves are on packs ..if you find one, scan for others usually 3 or 4 sometimes more. Sometimes they lurk near other predators like bears or pumas etc! Pumas and leopards etc give little warning and spring surprise attacks and can be hard to see ..if you are at a safe distance a bow/crossbow is effective. Again after killing one, scan for other predators before claiming the hide and meat. 6)Storage of items in your base .. I craft stone letters to identify whats in any container ..which i place around the walls ( cu = copper, fe= iron Sa = saltpeter, etc also cabinets with tools ) Place a container with wood pieces and any ores close to your smelter/ forge/.kiln 7) doors... construct them to keep unwanted animals out.. place near them spears to grab in an emergency 8) Build your base on a shoreline where there's a deep water area nearby ... construct a dockyard where you can build your ships and use place tp put in temporary wooden poles as a barricade around your dock entrance to keep sharks out while you are building. Construct a tower on your base fitted with lanterns or other forms of lighting, to make your base locatable from land or sea approach. Place columns with lamps at the entrance of your dock as a guide. 9) construct multiple weapons and their ammo for placement on you base, ship, and spawn point.. so you have something to use if you lose a battle with a predator etc. When exploring, only take with you essentials... 10 ) craft a map and pencil and place in dynamic area .. to record where you are.. check map often to see where you are in case you get " terminated" and therefore you will have an idea where t your tombstone is and you can recover your items. Check to see if your penci is not broken ..if it is your map may not update 11) when stopping to read map or eat, choose a elevated point where you can have uninterrupted 360 degree view around you, to thwart any surprise attack by lurking predators. 12) sharks will attack your boat especially if you are sleeping on it.. or away from the helm feeding... place helm and any sleeping bed a good distance from stern. If you put a brazier on your ship to keep warm, make sure its covered 3 sides from the weather. Put containers around the sides of you ship as a barrier to prevent falling off your ship. whew that's all for now others will ad more tips for sure. have fun! Addendum: If you encounter a strange bug or glitch, copy your logfile to an area in the forums before you try and re log ..( its location etc can be found in correspondence there) ..that way the developers will see the data that caused the issue, as that file is automatically cleared on log in

Well said! Also when visiting other islands , collect seeds of palms, rubber trees, oaks bamboo flax cotton and other foods....plant them close to your base for easier foraging. I use dirt from excavations to reclaim land around my shore line base.... to make plantations and gardens, and also take some with me on my ship ...to build a causeway from the ship to the shore to avoid sharks. Moor your ship next to a shoal close to shore...and then build the causeway....use a shovel to level it. Don't accidentally trap your ship! ..... sometimes the sharks will try to climb onto the pathway ... they then make an easy supply of fresh meat

try sailing in increasing circles........... and make a hard copy map on paper near your mouse. Also if you move your view around you can get glimpses of the ocean bed below your ship ... if theres no weeds or other objects, then you are in no man s land if you see its shallow with objects including weeds then something "may" be nearby...watch for birdies!
