that is the easy part.
its even whiter than flint, and most of the time when i gathered some, the sun made my pick gleam at every swing i made.
edit: i searched long for sulfur.. its is a pale yellow, dont get fooled by that treacherous sandblobs, sand is more like a golden yellow.
i discovered the fire drill rather late, and flint is very easy to get. i'd go for the later.
and you dont need burning material to start a fire (no matter if a forge, fire or stove), you'll use wooden pieces or something similar only when the fire is starting to fade, to fuel it again (if needed).
thanks again.
i just started a spot to show what i think i noticed about the errosion.
one thing that i'm sure now, is the dragon statue in one of my older saves. when found it was amidst some trees and there was light green ground. i picked up the ash heaps, cut some trees did stuff.. and the area around the statue turned slowly to a more yellowish ground color. so it might have to do something with the statue in this case...
i'll post pics if something changes in the experimental area.

i love takeing over old structures and let my camp grow around them.
sadly "my" blocks dont snap snuggly on the found structures.. but its a long way to a prettyfied home anyways
hey,
copper: i make a screeny later. its rose colored and i found it mostly in rocky terrain on the surface in the mountains. if you happen to find one of those "6 barrel pyramid" special places, you'll find some copper bars in them too.
wind indicator: did you lower the anchor? i had problems placing it too, lowering the anchor on medium and large ships is sort of needed to place stuff on them.
and to get my ship back from an island i died, i built a raft and spent a good chunk of time rowing back to the island. sadly you have to press "move forward" the whole time.. at least its cheap to build.

uh, nice and tidy. i tend to live in a hijacked building i found or on a small plot of flat space cluttered with workstations
sadly, my two most "advanced" saves dont work anymore, but i try to take a picture next time.
i do make those crop-circles too. not in a organized fashion tho, more like a chaotic garden around my camp..
btw. we need treehouses!
yes, i think we mean the same.
just found out, that the display blocks can be broken by a stone axe.. which didnt do me much, but on the big cube with the emotes its of much more use
had these two buildings on most of my starting ylands too. didnt bother with the flying one tho. i tinkerd with the tower on the surface a bit.
a bundle of tnt i found didnt do anything to the tower, but i could break the glass at the top.
the chest inside is locked, but i didnt dare to mess with it yet. i'm not sure if a chest drops its content if broken, or if a tech chest maybe needs power to open. no keys found until now.
also i'm curious what happens if the fans on the bottom of the flying cube are disabled somehow?
how far down had you to go for gold and sulfur?
the mutated bones can be crushed to ylandium dust in the crafting menu too. and speaking of crafting.. is it hard to make that mining helmet?
i just wiped the starting island clean of the predators, and they seem to spawn again, although very slowly (like one every few days).
edit: after thinking about english grammar, i guess it should have been: wiped the starting island clean of just the predators.
i have been in caves several times. i take a couple of torches with me, one or two to place, one as reserve and one just in case.. i found out, that the glowing mushrooms can be used in the alchemy stand, but i havent tried the resultin poition yet. also, you'll find crystals, that glow, deeper down the caves. those are mighty fine for illumination, be it base or cave or what ever.
for the riches to find in the caves.. best thing i found were those crystals, but they are rather common (to plentiful), i found one of those dead adventurer spots with some stuff, and mutated beasts.
i'm looking for sulfur, as that should be in caves someone said. also i found a gold ingot (on mentioned skeleton), so i guess theres gold ore somewhere in this game. mutated beasts are also good, the mutated bones they drop are very handy. i usualy hunt them with an iron crossbow. and there should be yllandium crystals down there too, but i have yet to find one of those.
i guess if thats my loot from four islands worth of caves, that i'm rather unlucky, or just doing it wrong somehow.
sorry. that was meant to be a colorful description of the recipe, but i eventualy got carried away a bit
crossbow bolts are the same recipe btw, but i didnt discover any higher tier arrows (like iron for example) yet.
that makes sense, i'm actually fine with the difficulty and danger (and thrill) that exploration imposes.
the other point that plays a bit into the respawn beacon thing would be settling over to a new yland.
the possibility to select another yland as my new "hometurf" would be great. but i can see how this is a rather large backdoor for a mobile spawnpoint. maybe link it to a certain amount/type of crafting tables built on the yland..
i'd like to hear if theres any plans concerning this topic as well.
cheers
hey,
i noticed, that the maps i crafted are not in my inventory after i restart the game.
there is sometimes stuff, that is sort of invisible in the chests and inventory, but normaly that reappears after a restart. the maps are gone however (i even checked the floor in and around my camp).
so its in the explore mode, happened in two different saves and with the paper and the leather parchment maps.
yes, i made me some already.
just straighten some sticks and cut them to shafts. i then used resin to glue the flint tips to the sticks and some feathers at the other end.
if you find it hard to cut proper notches into the feathered end without a fine saw, try to just cut a V shape. also, if you break some of the broader tips while chipping them, keep some. tho the more bladeshaped are better for hunting bigger mammals, i found that the slim, pointy ones are fine for birds and small game still. when choosing the wood type for the shafts, i tend to go for something with a higher resin amount. those will be less affected by dampness or outright soaking. and when checking for lenght, i tend to make mine about a handwidth too long. in case just the tip breaks (its flint..), that should leave you with enough material to fix a new head instead of throwing it away.
;D
i'll second pauls wish.
not sure if i just missed a checkbox somewhere, but in my crafting tab, those i did craft already are shown first, but only sorted by the last use. as this list (where red and clear icons are mixed) grows it would be handy to toggle of the red, uncraftable recipes.
also, i would be very handy, if looking at a recipe, i could click/hover on the individual parts to see their recipe. especialy for those still missing and maybe even for the workbench needed if there's one.
hey,
played for my first couple of days now, and i'm getting into yland hopping.
i tinkered a bit with the ships and now i wonder, if i can link two hulls with other blocks to form a katamaran like ship?
will there be some sort of a spawnbeacon, that can be built for the medium and large ships (or at least on the large one) in the future?
also, i'm struggling to find sulfur. how does it look and where does it "grow"?
thanks
thanks for the reply.
good to hear, i'll have look in the suggestion part to write more for both topics (ships and death... not sulfur ).
now on to some cave spelunking.
