A bug ocurred when I am playing in a server and I go to menu, more later, when I enter again in the server, the map restart and I dont know where I am. There is only one small point where I place myself, but everything else discovered by me is lost. This happened to me on a friend's server in the middle of the Sea Institute and I lost everything, but apparently, being the host, this does not happen

RESOLVED [YLD-8182] Map not updating after long play bug
ComR posted a question in Bugs & Technical Issues
Hi, I played third time in Exploring Mode and in every game, after exploring big part of the Ylands, map suddenly stop to be updated. Map shows where you are and what are you looking at, but it's not drawed. It's not showing new places, not removing fog of war. I discovered that it revealed part of the map is always a square... So, map is working properly, you can see your map and then suddenly map "ends". Sometimes you can move explore something to the left West from you, but you cannot do the same on the Eastern part of the map. It looks like half of the map is possible to explore, but everything to the East ofcertain point isn't. Also, I realise that map is cut into tiles. If you are in the same cell, you can reveal some teritory to the West of you, but if you leave that "working" tile" - map isn't revealing at all - nowhere. Another problem with map appears when you die. In most cases map is incomplete and even my own Yland is covered in fog of war again. Additionally sometimes maps shows wrong tiles - I can see fragment of the sea and land of some other yland in the millde of my yland. Tile is square, rougthly 1/3 lenght of middle size Yland (64-128 ground tiles wide?). -
Me and my friend discovered some bugs while playing Multiplayer (I try to recreate these bugs with screenshots and videos later): The wooden raft begins to float in the air when the water level gets lower due to digging and building. Sometimes when picking up items, plants etc. you're character gets stuck in the picking up animation or completely freezes. Map resetting when disconnected (known bug) The water has a very weird behavior when the sand beneath it is modified. Sometimes it completely disappears. It also sometimes generates holes in the water. Every time i walk past a sail on a ship i get teleported to the side and fall from the ship. The ship is a little glitchy in general, when im not in control of the ship. (This doesn't happen to the host) Another bug from the ship is that when i climb up the ladder, it keeps the swimming animation until i jump. (This is only visible for myself, not for other players) Sometimes items that are picked up or crafted are not visible until you scroll the inventory. These are all bugs we found for now, im gonna update this post if we find more.

My map seems to have glitched out a bit. There's one tile where it has duplicated the original area when the map was first created and pasted over the top of another area further North West. Dropping the map and picking it back up doesn't do anything, neither does restarting the game. Bizzare.

On Twitter I was asked to create a new tread for this error, so here it is. ;D When I start the game everything is okay, until i want to load a map(the tutorial in my case). Then is just stops working. No error text field and nothing. Only the windows "stopped working" window.

G'day Devs, Just a suggestion for the maps. I'd love to see 2 markers added if possible. One for caves and the other an iron pick or something similar to mark for ores. Loving the recent updates you've brought, as an older player nd one who wasn't always happy with the direction of the explore.... keep up how things are going. Cheers... one happy explorer

Hey Ylanders, Is there any Map-Overview in Editor? Can't find one and it would be easier to have an actual Map in Editor-Mode to jump from object to object and have an overview of your whole world. Best Greetings Fapi24

[Suggestion] Use imported Heightmaps to generate a map in the editor?
Amber Icon posted a question in Suggestions & Feedback
I am playing around with the editor and it seems a fair bit difficult to create a map without using the worldgen tool. If players want to create a specific place, it would be so much more streamlined if we could head into the game with a predesigned map that we could then tweak and fill in the editor. -
Does anybody have any flat world (Like, superflat MC) seeds? Or, in addition, does anybody know how to get a custom world from the edit mode into create mode? I can't seem to figure out a way and it would be pretty ridiculous if it's not actually possible...

Hey Ylands Team and Community, The best part of this game is creating your own scenarios/games and play these with friends (my opinion) and thats why I spent the most time with trying things out in your editor, but I still miss some features. I know this game is not finished yet and you have planned a lot, nevertheless I wanna make a whishlist for some futher possibilities in your editor: 1. The possibility to transfer islands (not just objects... with terrain!) into editing maps. 2. Easier terraforming there you can set that the terrain dont get up higher than a ceartain hight (to pretend unwanted hills etc. if you hold left-click for terrain an area faster) and bigger sizes possible. 3. An overview of your map in the editor and maybe editing basic settings for this map in this overview (like the "generate new terrain" option, but you can set climate zones in your map and auto-generate islands on certain places (you can choose where on the map) with configurated and all individual sizes (very little islands should be possible too), but without deleting your existing map). 4. The possibility to have multiple maps in your game (like different game levels). Maybe these things are already possible and I just dont know that... Let me know if there is something I can already do. Thanks for your amazing work! LG Fapi24

My friends and I run a dedicated server. We want to generate a new map with .8 features, but I don't know how to get it to do that. I tried removing the save world folder so the game wouldn't have anything to load, thus creating a new seed map, but that didn't work...the server never loaded. Help! Thanks!

My suggestion is: Being able to generate a world of desolate sands or wastelands, changing the water by sand, the islands would be oases, and also add massive terrestrial vehicles, such as land ships. Something to have a scenario type mad max or Dune. Inclusive, later to hybridize it, with the regular map with extensive oceanic zones and arid or frozen continents with oases in its interior. I apologize for my bad English, it is not my native language.

[Suggestion] Use imported Heightmaps to generate a map in the editor?
Amber Icon posted a question in Suggestions & Feedback
I was playing around with the editor and it seems far too difficult to create a custom map without using the worldgen tool. If I wanted to create a specific biome, setting or place, it would be so much easier if players/creators could import a predesigned heightmap into the game that could be used to generate a map. [almost exactly the way that cities skylines allows players to import and export heightmaps] These maps could then be easily tweaked, decorated and filled with the rest of the tools available in the default editor. -
Hey I was wandering how I download maps off the workshop. I logged in and I can't find the download button anywhere? I'm confused...

hi, I have been working in the editor and when flying from island to island, I got lost a few time. Being able to pull up a map like in the live game would really help out in the editor. Plus, it would be even better if the map showed all the islands with out the fog of war (i.e. show all unexplored areas). Another idea for the map in the live game is to have it switch to a map of the tunnels when you go underground.

I was writing about it many times, I guess it's somethin everything saw already, please, see the screenshot. Another problem is - after some time map isn't updated anymore. It's "undiscovered" n matter what. I don't have screenshot yet.

I have notice that while playing in multiplayer mode, that the map doesn't save where you been and just resets back to nothing until you open again in the next time you play. I am sure you know of this issue just wanted to inform you.

Workstation Suggestion: Cartographer's Desk
JeremiahKane posted a question in Suggestions & Feedback
Love the game so far, even despite the MP bugs. (Let's face it. Those are the worst one's.) Now, on with the show. My suggestion is a Cartographer's Desk. It should serve a number of functions, separated by tabs of course. First function: Map Marking. I've seen this suggestion in another topic, and while it's a great idea. I think it should be limited to a workstation. Of course, you'd need to have an unbroken writing tool in your inventory to mark key points on a map. Or erase them. This should also allow for a much greater zoom out functionality. Second function: Map Copying. This would be a boon, especially on MP with the current map-wiping bug. Or even later, when said bug is fixed, it'll allow for co-op/teamed players to explore independent of each other and then combine maps. (My thoughts on the map wiping bug are that, at least in peer-hosted gameplay, the only map saved is the one(or ones, mayhaps) used by the host player.) Third/Fourth function: Creation of a Wall Map. This one may be a bit trickier, given the need for a current map. But never-the-less, I could see this one creating a nice, and semi-functional, wall decoration. First, you'd need four pieces of paper or leather to craft the Wall Map. Then you can take it and your regular map and copy a segment over to it, with the ability to zoom out far enough to (hopefully) capture other Ylands. Of course, the Wall Map should be placeable like paintings or carpets. The block dimensions of it, I would say, should be no greater than 6x6, but no less than 4x4. Given how easy writing tools and paper are to craft, this could also allow, with maybe a bit of pixel perfection, to create large map-murals. (Kinda like in Minecraft, where you could set maps up in the right spots to map out a large-scale area and place them on your wall with item frames.) -
Hi, I have a few ideas, I think important for the game: 1) There should be possibility to draw (literally or just placing sprites) with "X" and circle in few colours. When you hover with your mouse above the mark, there should be some text, few words. In short - there is many places that cannot be seen on map, very important ones like cave enters, treasures or underground resources... or.. your base... Sometimes I can change the map by terraforming (I like artificial islands), but mostly - I have no clue where my base is and after a while I know where it is, but.... I have to count certain specific regions on my map. Let us just mark the maps. It should work like this: You open the map, move your map - click (space? right button?) where you want and you have simple window with small text window and a few symbols (for ex. "X", circle, skull, "V", "?" and "slash" or something to let you know it's not important anymore - for example - there are nice ruins, but already looted by you) in a few colors (for a few reasons - to be seen on different background and for color code you like... For example there can be only one "X" at all, but it would be nice if it would be in few basic colours (black, white, red [danger!] and green? Blue?). Such map would be very usefull in any game, but also it could be used in custom games. You could make treasure maps for example. 2) Let us catch and move animals! There is no traps for now, but I can imagine doing these myself - many times I was able to catch animals, because these fell into my old digged out holes. If you are close enought there should be option not only to "hit" or "feed", but also "catch" - maybe it should work from time to time, maybe always if you are close enough. It would be nice just to take into your inventory rabbits, goats or crabs... or even birds if you can cath these - it's possible to find birds on the ground or... under water, esp. on beaches. 3) Why predators do not respawn anymore? Sharks above water were maybe not very realistic, but they are fun! Island without any animals is... empty. Even "angry" ones should respawn as it was before last update... There was a glitch with too many sharks and sometimes rabbits, but it was much better than animals not respawning at all.. 4) Corn could be "universal food source" as Sisal Agave is universal textile producer and banana trees and berries are fruit producers... You need maaaaany grain to make bread. There will be never too much of different plants. We should be able to make flour of corn and also roast corn as we can do it with carrots and potatoes... Please - make it possible. For now corn is useless. You have to eat dozens of these everyday and you cannot even cook these! 5) I know it's only beginning of polishing Ylands, but water/sailing and so on is important already... Blease, add "bucket" to the game. I guess it would change game engine completely? But maybe not... It would be great if we could make dams and remove water or make lakes - move water at all. Also... I think it would be usefull if we could make bottles and need to drink from time to time. First - deser adventures would be less easy and more realistic, second - if we had water as resource we could make dough just "crafting water with flour". And... at last we could make clay pots useful for making stews and soups! Yeah, probably that's funny, but I like Ylands cooking idea... First building in my games is always kitchen... :)) And... I cannot eat stews or soups... If I find one I can only look at these and eat countless amouts of roasted fruits... :(( I need more variety in my diet! 6) Soil...It's not really big problem, but it is problem if you want your Yland to look nice. If you dig sand - you can place sand, if you make a gravel - you have dark brown (it's ok), if you dig snow - you can place snow, if you dig dirt - you can place dirt, but if you are digging normal soil you have alays dirt too... This is a bit annoying... Maybe... maybe you could make dirt less ugly? I understand there is green paint above ground mostly, but if you do not want to use terraformer or paintgun everything looks ugly and placing plants changes nothing. Maybe we could dig "soil" as soil too? Or planting grass would make dirt a bit green over time? Mabe we could place something like "floor vegetation"? 7) Last change with sacks was very wrong, I think. Sacks are of different sizes and some of these are clearly for seeds and flour mostly, so, there should be bigger sacks too. Make big sacks more costly (2 cloths) but allow at last 9 slots in these. I think sack with dollar on it can be 6 slots... 8) Chest (the brown one) is 9 slots only. This is too less... If you think it should be so small (but it's clearly not small), make it a bit more expensive - add plant or two, but 12 slots was okey. Clothing usually takes whole slot - one shirt - one slot. You just cannot have one wardrobe or a few chests... By making all chest small, except stone and bamboo ones, you force everyone to use bamboo chests... Which aren't pretty... 9) Barrels and baskets are 9 slots each, but barrels are much bigger and much more costly. I guess you would prefer to mabe baskets smaller and make these 6 slots, but we already have problems with inventory and storage... In my opinion barrels shoulb be more useful and have 12 slots too. They are so big that it's usually impossible to place more of these. 10) It would be nice to have small chests, 6 slots, just small enough, so you could place these in small sheds. For now there is no small chests at all. And a few bugs: 1) Small rainforest tree after chopping is rotating 180 degrees. 2) Opuntias after harvesting are always moving a feet/30cm or so. 3) There are invisible trees - these are rare and I could not see what tree was it, i just hit it by accident chopping fern. I realised there is a tree, but invisible. I chopped it and it leaved logs, sticks and so on - unfortunatelly, I do not remember what seeds it leaved. 4) It's already known issue, but I'm not sure if devs know, that boat if hit by seagul can fly to the sky... fortunatelly you land safely (I did). It seems that if seagull hit you you can fly with it (I was flying so high, so I could see whole island below me). 5) Blacksmith forge indeed do not recognise Iron Hammers. Because it happens from time to time, my suspicion is - my hammer war "worn", but I'm not sure if it can be a reason. 6) Sometimes items are dissappearing from inventory for good. I lost nails and many hammers this way. I have no idea what happened, but someone said that it's possible to "eat" items in certain situations? 7) I know it was said already, but it's very annoying - sometimes you cannot use "G" and click right button to change rotation. It just cancel crafting. It works with some items and do not work at all with others. Last time I couldn't place "wooden cabinets" (the wardrobe). Have a Good Day! Bartosz

I discovered a method to create this map on a newly generated world. It is an accurate representation of the islands without any exploring. So perhaps a bit of a cheat, glitch, or exploit since it removes the challenge of finding your islands. Personally I have burned or to me earned after countless hours of exploration. So now I can build and explore the islands easier. How to: Step 1. load "task manager" Step 2. load ylands Step 3. Start a new explore game Step 4. watch the screen. As soon as the world map creation text reaches 100% and before you teach parrots to curse use your task manager to end the program. Ylands.exe Now when you reload the game and hit the continue button your map will be displayed as above. I recommend you screen cap. You won't see this screen again. Well that is what I did. I am not super clever, I discovered while fumbling around keybindings on Steam Controller and it happened. Then I repeated it to verify.
-
There is three things I would like about the map : - have a key assign to it, like "M", so it could be possible to open it without quiting the 'ship control' mode. - Zoom out enough to see the entire group of islands at on glance. - write indications on the map (just icons or a simple cross) when having a pencil or chalk.
-
A way to compile map data with other maps you have created, found, or from other players would be quite useful. As well as a copy feature.
-
It would be amazing if the game had a dedicated minimap in one of the corners of the screen rather than having to switch over to the paper map in the hotbar.

I'm trying to figure out how to load a existing map for a hosting session. It seems currently I can host a private server on my machine for my friend and I however when we are done it saves it to only the single player session. Is there a way to save our map so that we can reload and play when I host again after the initial time?
